Has anyone else had to cut back on hair appointments?

cocopops11 · 17/02/2023 11:48

I've had to stretch mine out to between 10-12 weeks. I top the roots up in between appointments and thankfully as I'm a reddish brown colour, I'm able to blend the colour. I used to go every 6-8 weeks but the salon I go to put their prices up by £15 .
Anyone else having to stretch out appointments or just decided to colour your own hair at home?

Why be so rude? It was just a sincere question and you know nothing about my life or what problems I have

Well yeah, but we live in the first world so ......

CheeseSquared · 17/02/2023 12:41

I went grey! It's helped in so many ways.

Mysmallgarden · 17/02/2023 12:42

I just stopped going during lockdown and haven't been back. I cut my long hair myself every so often. It's saved me a fortune.

I'm with you @cocopops11

I think a lot of folk are stretching appointments out. I sport a shaved head, which costs me the grand sum of £6 at my hairdresser – who I'm convinced is Mafiosi – and banter is thrown in.

I think you're in good company though: a lot of people are feeling squeezed 😚

northernlola · 17/02/2023 12:45

I cut my own now (only possible as it's one length all the way round, wouldn't be doable for a more complex style!) and have a relative who was shielding during the pandemic, had a virtual consultation and started getting a bespoke dye through the post, she's never looked back and now does it for financial reasons.

The full works of hair dye, cut and blow dry can be very expensive these days, I agree with you.

And you sound very unpleasant. We chat about all sorts on here. It's a perfectly legit thing to ask.

Very rude reply!

OP, yes, I’ve pushed mine out to 10-12 weeks also. Used to go every 8 weeks. I hate spending so much on my hair and we have a change in income our way, so I need to reconsider where I get it done and how often.

Yes, it’s a first world problem but it’s a real one for many at the moment.

At the moment we have a lot on our plate, so my hair is the least of my worries but I do always feel so much better when the hair is done properly.

I need it done now but putting it off until I can’t look it anymore 🙈

pjani · 17/02/2023 12:47

I tried a few cheap hair cuts and they were dreadful so I’m still getting a decent haircut but only maybe 3 a year. I’m now using a box dye (used to pay for semi permanent colour) which is actually ok too. It looks fine but it takes me ages to getting around to actually doing it.

RudsyFarmer · 17/02/2023 12:48

Isn’t ‘Style and Beauty’ the exact place to ask this question? 🥴🤔

Oh give over - people talk about all sorts of things on mumsnet. It doesn’t all have to be life changing and profound.

Yes, op. I am going longer between appointments to save money.

WTF, how rude! This is Style and Beauty not AIBU

grayhairdontcare · 17/02/2023 12:53

@Alexander454 slagging someone off because they posted a hair question in style and beauty 😂

You can't tell it's half term and the kids are getting bored.

coffeeschmoffee · 17/02/2023 12:53

Yes OP i have switched to getting it cut by a friend and doing the colour only once every 6 months (have changed from highlights to a subtle balayage so the regrowth isnt as noticeable). I also never ever get it blow dried in the salon, waste of ££.

Do you think that maybe a Style and Beauty board isn't the place for you if you're offended by people discussing style and beauty?

This!

mintdaisy · 17/02/2023 12:58

Going to the hairdresser is one of my only self care activities - I've stopped regular nails/eyebrows/buy on Vinted etc. I love the whole ritual of it and it really makes me feel better having well cared for hair. I only go every 10 weeks but I don't really get noticeable roots as my hair is quite light anyway. I will be sad if I have to give it up!

cocopops11 · 17/02/2023 12:59

@Alexander454 I'm not engaging any further with you and have already reported your comments. You seem insistent on just being nasty. Go and troll someone else and in case you are not aware it's a style and beauty board. Have a nice day

Let's ignore the obvious wind up merchant.

OP you are right this is a legitimate question. I'm still getting mine coloured st 10 weekly intervals. I have a mix of natural looking highlights and lowlights that doesn't look awful grown out. I use a home hairdresser to save money without compromise on quality.

Im not hard up but i found salon prices were getting out of hand about 10 years ago and service wasn't up to much. I can't stand being stuck at the back wash whilst my stylist cuts someone else's hair.

defi · 17/02/2023 13:03

I've switched to a box dye, currently growing my hair so will just need the odd trim. Saved soo much. Used to go every 8weeks for highlights

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 17/02/2023 13:07

I have never been a regular salon attendee. I go 2 or three times a year for a tidy up. I no longer dye my hair. I used to use box dyes, but I'm natural and greying now.
