Has anyone else had to cut back on hair appointments?

I've had to stretch mine out to between 10-12 weeks. I top the roots up in between appointments and thankfully as I'm a reddish brown colour, I'm able to blend the colour. I used to go every 6-8 weeks but the salon I go to put their prices up by £15 .
Anyone else having to stretch out appointments or just decided to colour your own hair at home?

I dont have my hair coloured or permed or anything and even before Covid I only had it cut three times a year, sometimes 4. It was £60 and I always feel like a million dollars as i leave the salon.

Only had it cut once last year (May) so its now really long and unruly and spends all its time in a plait or ponytail - looks a mess but is in decent condition. I just can't justify the now £70 cost - yes I could go to a cheaper salon but this guy has cut my hair for 30 years and knows its kinks and how it needs to be cut to work best with these kinks and my 'really can't be arsed to spend hours styling it' lifestyle!

Yes, I can now only afford to get my hair done every 3 months which means I have a month where I have very visible grey roots. It's not been too bad over the winter - hair up, head bands and hats! I feel bad for my hairdresser though, she hasn't put her prices up but it's everything else going up that means I can't afford it so much now.

I gave up going to the hairdressers years ago. I colour my own hair using a box dye and get it cut at the barbers every couple of months for £15.

I found my hairdressers were far too neurotic like post covid, so I went for nearly 18 months without a cut or colour. I've gone back to having it cut but only every 12 weeks instead of 6 weeks and I don't bother with colour and just embrace being grey. They've saved me a fortune.

I gave up completely, £150 (not including a tip) for a long hair cut & colour is the cheapest price near me, daylight robbery. I've learnt to cut & colour for myself and it's great! I'll never go to a hairdresser again now, no need.

I went grey! It's helped in so many ways.

Same here. I am fine with my grey hair. I get cut and blow dry every 12/16 weeks.

MintJulia · 17/02/2023 13:45

No. I don't have my nails done or ever buy coffee out, I haven't been on holiday since before covid, takeaways are down to twice a year. I've halved my gas usage.

My 6 weekly cut & colour will be the last thing to go. 😊

Do many people go as often as 6 weeks in the first place?

I’ve recently gone from every 12 weeks to every 8 weeks because I’m trying to look more polished at work.

I think it’s a worthwhile investment - I always notice a good haircut on someone!

autumnboys · 17/02/2023 14:00

I’ve never needed to dye mine and at nearly 48 probably won’t bother even if it starts to show some grey. I have pushed my haircut from every 8 weeks out to every 10/12.

xogossipgirlxo · 17/02/2023 14:14

Ideally I would go every 3 months, but I stretched to 4. I can't do any longer as I feel horrible. Can't do mine at home as I have blonde balayage.

Mindymomo · 17/02/2023 14:24

I go every 6/7 weeks and ask for a good trim as I have thick hair and it grows quickly. I dye it myself 3 or 4 times a year, just a brighter colour to hide the grey coming through, I am 62. I’ve cut back on buying clothes. In my village we used to have 4 hairdressers, we now only have one so hoping those of us going regularly can keep it open.
