BODEN- I am so over them after 30 years.

If I was married to them I'd be filing for divorce.

I loved them thirty years ago when I bought a poacher's jacket.
There was the honeymoon years when I couldn't get enough of them. Lovely knitwear, basic trousers, nice plain-ish smart dresses, great wool coat still going strong after 10 years.

And now I can't bear the sight of them.

The colours are garish, patterns headache-inducing, dresses nothing that appeals, prices- well, don't get me started on those - £80 for a pair of basic jeans? T-shirts close to £30. I could afford all of this but refuse to be ripped off.

I wonder if they will exist in a few more years?

Bit different from the Hotchpotch dresses from the days of yore...

BeethovenNinth · 14/03/2023 09:23

God I like those pants too - but wouldn’t pay that orice

my DD would love that dresss…0

I like some of those! It's been a good few years since Boden had a more premium occasion dress range for children.

Though those are extremely similar to I love gorgeous range (now rebranded as Wild and Gorgeous). My daughter had a dress extremely similar to that it was a Marie Antoinette dress, I think, and was one of their signature dresses.

It’s hardly premium…

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/03/2023 07:42

That dress is awful. Tacky and cheap looking. I used to buy all DD’s dresses from Boden. Always cotton, well designed and made.

LizzieSiddal · 15/03/2023 08:02

I put in a large order a few weeks ago, mainly of their summer dresses as need some for a holiday. Oh my goodness, it was just dreadful, most of the necklines were edging towards my bellybutton! And the quality was more Primark and certainly not worth over the £100 mark.
Very sad at Borden's demise, I could only afford to buy from the sale years ago and everything was such a treat. Nowadays I have the money to spend but it never works out. Sad

WaggyTailsWetNoses · 15/03/2023 08:21

I don’t know what you are all complaining about. I’ve just spent £262 at Boden on a range of reasonably priced, high quality, pure cotton clothes in lovely colours.

Sadly, they were all for DH. Yup. While the women’s clothes have gone all pub carpet and net curtains, the men’s clothes remain classy as ever. Quelle surprise!

ArabeI · 15/03/2023 10:39

Comparatively speaking @LittleBearPad When compared to the other children's clothes in their range. They did attempt a similar range a few years ago.

Inspired by more premium brands, I suspect, like I love gorgeous/wild and gorgeous.

ThePoshUns · 15/03/2023 12:26

Just had an email that 25% off everything today. Not a good sign

I agree, I've never known Boden do so many discounts so quickly in succession.

Mind you, I did buy a black cashmere cardigan today. It was already reduced in the sale, and the 25% off applied on top of the the sale price, so it made it really quite cheap.

Plus I used 2 £10 vouchers...

I was not tempted by anything else, though!

Drizzlepeacefully · 16/03/2023 13:45

I looked last night and it was all so over priced that the 25% was inadequate enticement..

thepatronsaintofbubblewrap · 16/03/2023 15:57

I highly suspect that they will.meet their downfall soon.
They might try a few more tricks to try and reel us in but they will fizzle out.

I shall adopt the phrase "gone all pub carpet" forthwith 😁

Not surprised to hear that at all at all. Though DH hasn't bought anything from there for years and I didn't know they still sold clothes for men.

Also love 'gone all pub carpet!

KirstenBlest · 16/03/2023 20:39

The men's stuff isn't polyester, and looks fairly conservative compared with most of the women's clothes.

LizzieSiddal · 16/03/2023 23:46

Actually to be fair to Boden they aren’t the only ones with 25% off at the moment. Jigsaw, Whistles, Hush and almost every other retailer has a sale on.

user1477391263 · 16/03/2023 23:53

It used to be a place where you spent quite a bit of money on clothes in classic style made from natural fibers.

Now it’s a place where you spend the same amount of money on clothes made from polyester that will look dated a year from now.

What’s with all the hot pink and bright turquoise? I am sure that there are people who suit these colors, but all the muted shades have gone, unless you want navy navy navy navy navy. I don’t get it.

QueenofLouisiana · 16/03/2023 23:56

I’ve also abandoned Boden. I haven’t bought anything from them since pre-Covid. I used to spend quite a lot as DS had lovely things from there too- the cargo pants with reinforced knees, the swim shorts….

BluebellBlueballs · 25/02/2023 16:53

Love Boden for their 365 days return policy, including wear and tear.

They use such shit fabrics now that everything falls apart/ goes bobbly after a few months.

So you can buy something wear it to death and get a refund or credit.

Hoist by their own petard there.

I used this guarantee recently actually, for a collared jumper as the collar wasn’t staying in place after a few wash and they refunded with no issue.

boilingstormyseas · 21/03/2023 06:49

Big sale now on but on scrolling through I couldn't find anything I liked - drab colours and dull patterns. TBH if I didn't know I was on the Boden site I would not have thought it was Boden stuff.

WarmWinterSun · 21/03/2023 10:25

I’m still shopping at Boden because it’s one of the few brands offering a wide range of petite options. It seems to be one of the few around that does this. I really like Baukjen but a lot of their clothes are for a taller shape.

LizzieSiddal · 21/03/2023 12:07

I ordered some dresses in the sale, for my summer holiday. All going back, I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s me, but nothing looks good at all. I think everything is made for slim, tall women, and unfortunately for Boden, the majority of women in the UK do not fit that discretion! (I’m a size 10, 5ft 2 and 32FF). To be fair the quality was good but the fits were dreadful.

I did a big order of children's clothes for my DDs, but sent it all back. The sizing was so strange, 8-9 was too small on my 6yo, dresses were really short and so wide they just looked badly fitted so the next size up would look odd. I see all the reviews are from America, maybe the sizing suits them?

Like others have said, I buy second hand now.
