Am I too old for this (Sezane) dress?

I’m going to a big family wedding and was looking at a midi dress (the Estella) from Sezane to wear for the occasion, but have been advised by a friend 😡 that the dress is for a “much younger woman” 😢.
Im 61, so ok I know I’m no spring chicken.
Dress seems fairly safe to me, not a boob-baring mini! However there is a slit at the front of the skirt.
Opinions very welcome?

Also - just general advice on Sezane fit? I’m tall (nearly 6 foot), big boobs, athletic build so arms and legs quite chunky (not fat). Does Sezane only fit petite french girls?!
Thank you This is the dress:

Also, if anyone has ideas of similar dresses not quite so blimmin expensive (the Sezane is 155€!) I’d love to hear about them.

It's a lovely dress OP and you will look great! Your friend probably thinks by a certain age its just boring M&S cardigans and sad slippers, ignore her.

Helpwhatwouldyoudonext · 09/02/2023 08:41

It's lovely, looks appropriate. You can wear a vest underneath if it's too plunging, or add an extra button if the slit it too revealing.
In a nice way, don't listen to your friend, listen to yourself!
You'll only know by trying on.

Helpwhatwouldyoudonext · 09/02/2023 08:42

Don't forget Vinted!

GettingStuffed · 09/02/2023 08:42

I'm not much younger than you, I'd wear it in a different colourway

Helpwhatwouldyoudonext · 09/02/2023 08:43

There's 447 Sezanne Dresses on Vinted at the mo!

Sooverthemill · 09/02/2023 08:45

Ouch what 'friend ' was that?! I'm 64 (65 in April) and 75% of my wardrobe that's not jeans is from Sézane. It's for all ages. The dress sizes are fairly accurate and they are often long. If you WhatsApp Sézane they will give you exact measurements. The large often tells you measurements too. If you order more than £200 it's free dispatch and in all cases returns are free. ( but not if you return individual items separately). Refunds are fast these days too. I went to Sézane in Paris last week and the shoppers were all ages. Are you in UK?

FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 09/02/2023 08:45

It's not inappropriate in any way, but IMO it falls into that category of clothing that looks cool on younger women but can look granny-ish on older ones. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd bear in in mind.

lifeinthehills · 09/02/2023 08:46

I think that's perfectly fine for your age.

And many of them are fakes

RampantIvy · 09/02/2023 08:47

I'm 64 and think it is a lovely dress. It is too low cut for my scrawny chest though Sad

Shutupyoutart · 09/02/2023 08:50

Get the dress! My mum is always really Conscious of being "too old" for certain dresses/outfits I always tell her not to be daft, she's 60 has a cracking figure and looks great in everything. If you love it op go for it honestly and ignore your friend. Age is just a number.

Tirednest · 09/02/2023 08:52

It's very inoffensive at any age! Personally I don't wear anything that low cut as my chest is very sun damaged and wrinkled, but if yours isn't then it's fine.

This is something that I'm always struggling with- that whole tea dress thing that was so popular in the 90s when I was a teen doesn't really work so well a quarter of a century later 😂

OP, it's definitely not too young for you but depending on how you style it it might be too old for you, in a way it's not too old for the model. I'd give it a try and see what you think.

Tirednest · 09/02/2023 08:55

I think I look very frumpy in those types of dresses.

Westfacing · 09/02/2023 09:02

Yes, you're too old for this dress, as am I Smile

IMO only young women look good in granny/tea dresses - nothing to do with splits or low-cut, just the general look.

Riverlee · 09/02/2023 09:08

i think you’ll look fine. The shape is right for a big boobed lady, ie, v-shaped neck. Buy it and try it on.

i’d wear that, and I’m the wrong size of 50.

borntobequiet · 09/02/2023 09:10

It’s a very “safe” dress, split notwithstanding. Agree that styles like this look better on younger women. I’m in my late 60s and would go for something sharper and shorter. Lowish cut is fine but some upper arm coverage necessary.

mondaytosunday · 09/02/2023 09:22

Im 60 and I'd wear that. Very pretty. No other suggestions can't remember the last time I bought a dress!

DNBU · 09/02/2023 09:28

It’s a lovely dress OP, and it doesn’t have an age. My mum would look great in it and she’s late 60s, styled with a off white summer blazer maybe.

CountryCousin · 09/02/2023 09:41

Your ‘friend’ is a fool.

But I’m not young - and I wouldn’t wear it because it’s dull. Were it not for your height the dress would make you almost invisible in photographs. (Perhaps you are deliberately wanting to blend into the background?)

Vermin · 09/02/2023 09:42

Have a look at the BA&SH dresses on the outnet or vinted / vestiaire - lots in that ballpark

JulesGeebee · 09/02/2023 09:45

Beautiful dress don’t listen to your friend! Perfect for any age and the cut of Sezane is always so good. I was eyeing up the midi skirt in that fabric the other day the colors are lovely. Also I think you will get loads of wear from it afterwards. Good for all seasons.

RunnerDown · 09/02/2023 09:46

I think the dress is lovely and I’m around your age . And for all those saying these kind of dresses look grannyish on older women - surely that’s a massive overgeneralisation. It might look amazing on some older women - and terrible on some younger women. Different folks suit different things.
The only thing I would say is that it’s a dress I would wear more casually. I did wear a dress similar to this to a wedding once and felt distinctly underdressed . Depends on the wedding though

Ivegotmyhappyfaceontodayles · 09/02/2023 09:46

OP ignore your friend; buy the dress if it makes you feel good! Another suggestion is Bombshell dresses. They're sent from heaven esp for big boobs. I have this one and it is divine www.bombshellhq.com/collections/wedding-guest-dresses/products/new-navy-polka-dot-bombshell-grace-tie-front-shirt-dress
