Eye lash growth serums can cause orbital fat loss

Dingdong99 · 07/02/2023 06:19

I've been using these serums since 2019 and been amazed with the results

But I've just discovered they can cause orbital fat loss, ie loss of fat around your eyes, and think this might apply to me. In the last year or so, I've noticed my under-eyes have become more hollow and wrinkly

I use Luxros and looking at the reviews, not 1 in 4000 people report this

Does anyone have any experience of fat loss under your eye?

Are there any safe serums to use? I started out on Revitalise but switched to Luxlos as it's much cheaper

The plastic surgeon I see for Botox told me he thinks this is why Brooke shields has not aged so well. She has been a spokesperson for Latisse and her eyes are quite sunken.

todaystoday · 07/02/2023 07:31

I’ve met a few people who claim they feel more wrinkly and have orbital fat loss (I work in the aesthetics industry)

I’ve started using one myself, but I look like a pink panda so I’m going to have to stop.

LoveLabradors · 07/02/2023 07:43

I tried rapid lash for a couple of weeks and definitely looked more tired and darker circles. Did quite a lot of research and decided it simply wasn’t worth the risk and it certainly should be better highlighted as a risk. It took a good while from stopping to improve it. My actual eyes felt gritty too. My eyelashes are fine, longer would’ve been nicer but not at any cost.

LuciferRising · 07/02/2023 07:58

Have been using UK Lash and have stopped after reading the threads. I usenthe eyebrow serum too. Doesnit apply to that?

My vision had started to go blurry and my eyes sore. I've been using the lash for a few weeks. Eyebrow one for about a year.

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 07/02/2023 08:00

I also got blurry vision and very sore eyes using UkLash... lots of my fiends have had the same thing so it just have something pretty irritating to lots of people in it

LuciferRising · 07/02/2023 08:05

I think some of the side effects should be advertised better.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 07/02/2023 08:10

I bought UKLash after India Knight raved about it in The Times. Now I'm sceptical and will probably bin it after using for 3 weeks.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 07/02/2023 08:24

I use UK Lash and my eyes are fine. I've been using it for over a year now.

OldTrot · 07/02/2023 08:59

I was using Lumigan on and off for ages. Prescribed by an aesthetics doctor I hasten to add as it's a glaucoma medication with the side effect of lash growth.

I've recently had a re think about it and have decided to stop. I'm literally not that fussed about my lashes and mascara will do me just fine.

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/02/2023 09:04

Omg how would it do that?! If it’s causing fat loss what else is it doing? Just use castor oil.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 07/02/2023 09:20

Yes, it does. I have glaucoma and use Bitmaprost eye drops each night. (prescription strength). The list of side effects includes: could cause eye colour change, darkening of the skin on the lids and under the eyes, orbital fat loss, blurry vision (short lived) can cause lashes to lengthen and darken.
I’ve had most of these apart from the change of eye colour, my eyes are still blue. However I’ve started suffering from itchy eyes recently so may need another prescription change, I was on Lumigan previously but developed a reaction to the preservative in it.
I wish I did not have to use the drops but have no choice really. Darker skin under eyes or blindness. I’ll go for the darker skin.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 07/02/2023 09:21

PS. Ten years in.

Mercurial123 · 07/02/2023 15:05

Has anyone tried Vegamour? It looks a more natural alternative.

I wonder if there's a similar effect around the brow bone for eyebrow serums. I have been using one religiously and have started to get strange above eyebrow wrinkles. I thought they were down to how heavy-handed my last few Botox visits had been but now I'm wondering if the area has lost fat.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 07/02/2023 15:37

I have to discard the opened bottle of eye drops after a month and there’s always some leftover liquid in the bottle. I might start rubbing it on my tummy to get rid of my tummy fat 🤣🤣🤣

MadeOfSteel · 07/02/2023 17:04

I've been thinking about trying these products and I'm so glad you posted, OP. I'd never heard of side effects like this. I'll not bother now.

gwinny · 07/02/2023 17:12

Yes definitely! I wouldn't advise anyone to touch the stuff now. Long lashes is no compensation for hollow dark eye sockets. Lash extensions I think or a good fibre mascara.

LuciferRising · 07/02/2023 17:19

Going to ditch the UKBrow too after looking at some pictures. It can go right up to the brow line. Not worth the risk.

gwinny · 07/02/2023 17:22

Interesting about Brooke Shields @blisstwins I didn't know why (though she looks fine generally) but I think you're right.

Ihateboris · 07/02/2023 17:26

Yes, I used Latisse for a couple of years and ended up with orbital fat loss. Also, my upper eyelids were very red. I obviously stopped using it after doing my research and now just wear Clinique Power Lash

RunnyPaint · 07/02/2023 17:48

@Daffodilsandtuplips, how long did it take for the negative side effects? I've been taking the drops for 4 months and, while my lashes are a bit longer, I now look like I'm incapable of washing my face properly 😭 Better than risking my eye-sight, though 👀

Tamarindtree · 07/02/2023 17:57

I’ll stick with using Vaseline on my eyelashes at night (and finger and toenails) which I’ve done for at least five decades.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 07/02/2023 19:22

This is terrifying. I’d heard of the iris changing colour and that was enough to put me off. I was looking into the options this weekend and just doing basic research, didn’t see anything about this. Definitely not worth the risk for me. I don’t need bigger bags under my eyes!

Mumsanetta · 07/02/2023 20:53

This is so interesting, I had no idea this was a risk. I started using revitalash early January at the same time as tretinoin + hydroquinone. I now have very noticeable dark circles around my eyes, clearer skin overall but super dark eyes, like I haven’t properly removed eyeliner. I look knackered! Assumed it was a reaction to the tretinoin + hydroquinone but now wondering if it’s actually the revitalish!

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 07/02/2023 20:57

Hang on a minute. I thought the harmful ones are the ones with prostaglandin in them.
The ones without are fine? I use Luxros
