Eye lash growth serums can cause orbital fat loss

I've been using these serums since 2019 and been amazed with the results

But I've just discovered they can cause orbital fat loss, ie loss of fat around your eyes, and think this might apply to me. In the last year or so, I've noticed my under-eyes have become more hollow and wrinkly

I use Luxros and looking at the reviews, not 1 in 4000 people report this

Does anyone have any experience of fat loss under your eye?

Are there any safe serums to use? I started out on Revitalise but switched to Luxlos as it's much cheaper

I use uk lash and it definitely helps grow my lashes. I've been using it for a few months. I have lost quite a lot of weight in the past year or so, I've also always had quite bad dark circles caused by hollowed out eye sockets. The weight loss also made this worse.

I had a bit of cheek and tear trough filler in November and it looks so much better. In my opinion as I have this issue anyway I'm not sure a serum will make what is already a problem worse. But maybe if I didn't I'd be more cautious.

I'll also ask the Dr who does my filler about it next time I have a top up.

This happened to me. I used Lilash for 9 months and had no idea this was a possible side effect. I am devastated at the effect it has had on my eyes and it seems to be irreversible as I stopped using it 2 years ago and there has been no improvement.
Trouble is I don't think the lash serums work without the prostaglandins.
I think they should be banned.

LuciferRising · 07/02/2023 21:20

I'm surprised they aren't banned.

lashless · 07/02/2023 21:25

Lilash was banned in Australia and I think Canada too

I use rapidlash and have done for a while, not noticed any changes. Now I want to compare photos to see!

RudsyFarmer · 07/02/2023 21:33

I have naturally deep set eyes so I’m so thankful I never used these lash serums (I certainly considered it).

anybloodyname · 07/02/2023 21:47

Thank you so much for highlighting this issue

Really interesting .. the hopeful wish of longer lashes is just not worth this risk

Rebel2023 · 07/02/2023 21:50

There’s quite a lot about it on Reddit, just been reading up
this was before ever using any lash serum and now (top pic 5 years ago) bottom pic is when I had run out so my lashes aren’t overly long! I can’t see any changes except I guess normal ageing Grin
I wonder if it’s been ok that you’re not likely to get it or if it’s something that can start at any point

My dad had a glaucoma op on one eye and still uses drops on the other. The one he uses drops in looks awful compared to the other. He has eyelashes like a camel though - has to trim them or they hit his glasses!!!! 😂

PumpkinDart · 07/02/2023 22:15

Oh wow thinking about it I have an old scar on my brow bone that wasn't really visible until I started using Rapidbrow and my scar is much more visible and it actually looks like I've lost volume from that area.

@Daffodilsandtuplips, how long did it take for the negative side effects? I've been taking the drops for 4 months and, while my lashes are a bit longer, I now look like I'm incapable of washing my face properly 😭 Better than risking my eye-sight, though 👀

Its hard to say really..I didn’t notice at first due to poor vision, my eyesight was pretty bad, -10 due to cataracts on top of the glaucoma, I had complex lenses with prisms to correct double vision, everything was a brown haze anyway so couldn’t see my face in the mirror. I’ve had cataract surgery in the last two years on both eyes which was life changing. My long sight has come back, my prescription is - 1.75 and -2 in the other eye. I only need glasses for reading but wear varifocals as I still need prisms for the double vision.
It was after I’d got my sight back that I noticed the changes around my eyes although my DH had mentioned my eyes looked tired a few times before the surgery.

The change isn’t too bad though, it’s something I have to live with.

I couldn’t use the Bitmaprost drops for a month after the second cataract op due to an inflammatory condition for which I was prescribed steroid drops. I noticed the skin seemed a little lighter during that month.

This was posted on another thread and explains the issues Eyelash serums

Carlycat · 08/02/2023 00:50

My sister uses this one. It's prostaglandin analogue free. Any thoughts on this one causing ocular surface damage?

My one does! Huge lashes.
Didn't work on my eyebrows though.

Dingdong99 · 08/02/2023 07:54

@ cozytoe, the one I've been using for about 18 months and that has caused the issue is Luxros :0(

I'm going to try castor oil!

@Cozytoesandtoast00 - which one do you use?

Unlikely to have given huge eyelashes without. That's the point, the other stuff works wonders; thickness and length.

Which one did you use?

My daughter tries castor oil but it did nothing and now uses Vaseline as I told her all along to use and she loves the result.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 08/02/2023 11:14

Cozytoes** can I ask which you use? I've been using Nyk1 and have had a reaction to it

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 08/02/2023 11:33

I'm gutted ... I'd used mine (Nyk1) for a year with no problems at all. Then started having reoccurring itchy and swollen eyes which have turned out to be Blephatitis originating from my upper lash line. Odd I had such a delay so I'm wondering if it was a cumulative effect?

My short horrid lashes looked amazing though, almost became too long!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 08/02/2023 11:34

Wow - Vaseline?!! Anyone know the science behind it?

gwinny · 08/02/2023 11:44

Yes, you'd be as well to use Vaseline if not opting for prostaglandins. Good for around the eye area also.
