Hairclips on a grown up.

I have a chin length bob, I usually tick my hair behind my ears and sometimes I'll use a headband to keep to out of the way.

Today I saw some lovely hair slides.

My hair is thick and I remember when I was younger they never stayed put.

I love the look of these but worried I'm actually regressing to a toddler.

I'm 48

I love the dark turquoise one...... I'm 47.

A colleague used to wear hair clips like this, the first time I saw her wearing them I asked if she’d been in a rush that morning and used her dds hair clips. They were her own 😳 mortified! I apologised profusely and she just laughed and said it was fine, she was so sweet about it but I was so so horribly embarrassed. They were cute hairclips but I just thought they were so out of place on her!

Nodney · 05/02/2023 18:13

I have a chin length bob and i clip the front back sometimes. I get loads of compliments from my friends and work colleagues. They're lovely clips!

SweetSakura · 05/02/2023 18:14

The cut off is 49 so you'll be fine for a while Grin

In all seriousness though, just buy what you like.

I clip or tie my hair back if I'm doing lengthy chunks of research or drafting, the more cheerful the clip or bobble the better -.i only clicked on this thread for inspiration. I spent this afternoon doing some research in strawberry print pyjamas Grin

Lucy Worsley does that. She looks great

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 05/02/2023 18:15

Those clips are gorgeous, give it a go Op 😊

My daughter once popped her tiara on my head (she was three) when we were playing and I totally forgot I was wearing it and went and picked her brother up from his junior school disco in it! I wish someone had said something! I still worry what it says about me that no-one thought it was worth remarking

Sunbird24 · 05/02/2023 18:20

I clipped the top of my Bob back on Friday - in uniform for work so with a simple barrette in an unobtrusive colour. Would consider something brighter for outside of work but I’d look silly in the flowers!

  • by some sheer coincidence I was dropping off the kids at school and I saw a mum dropping of her kids with a tiara on her head. I did contemplate asking her but she was and remains to be one of those people that reminds me of the old school nuns who was terribly serious (and mean) so I didn't want to offend her if it had been done on purpose.

She looked tired tbh and I thought - she looks like she's having a hell of a day and I have been there. I'm not going to mention it.

This was right before Christmas last year bare in mind so I thought Christmas drives me slightly mad so maybe she's just having one of those days.

I also slightly admired how she carried it off actually, and my toddler was in awe of her calling her asking me if she was a real live princess. Which I told my Dd she was, so she must be extra nice to her.

UserNameSameGame · 05/02/2023 18:45

OP thank you! I saw these on Instagram ages ago but couldn’t find them again. I think (most of them) look great!.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/02/2023 18:49

I like those! I'm also sporting a bob these days and I did a half up with a clip at the back last week.

SweetSakura · 05/02/2023 18:50

@hourbyhour101 am now worried I look like an old school nun Grin

I suspect anyone who ends up accidentally wearing a tiara is quite nice on the inside, however they look. However I get what you mean about not wanting to make her day worse

Fedupwitheveryone · 05/02/2023 18:53

In theory I like them, in real life i do think they look too cutesy.

I'm similar age and hair and have found some quality ones that look a bit more grown up at Anthropologie.

ditherydotty · 05/02/2023 18:55

Toddler territory I'm afraid, along with short socks with Sandals, Alice bands the same. Once over childhood these things just look odd on an adult

ironhelp · 05/02/2023 18:57

Your comment about regressing to a toddler really made me laugh 😆

To be fair to this mum she has triples all boys identical. And they are a handful. I imagine I would look much worse than her under those circumstances and probably adopt a stern look at all points too.

Wasn't her fault at all she just looked like one of the nuns that was in a word. Cruel. My brain makes the jump even though it doesn't make sense ! Most likely a trauma response from me !!

I'm sure you don't look like a nun. Just probably most mums though oh I have been there (like the time I went to work with completely different shoes and one shoe had been secretly bedazzled by toddler) 🙃

MontalbanoFan · 05/02/2023 19:04

They’re lovely, OP. Go for it!

Coffeepot72 · 05/02/2023 19:16

I often clip my hair back but use the most discrete clips possible, I don’t want to replicate my school days look!

toomanycoffees · 05/02/2023 19:31

I'm 52 and sometimes wear a hair clip if my fringe is getting too long. Those hair clips are really nice OP - go for it!

BaroldandNedmund · 05/02/2023 20:23

I’ve got a few of these and although I adore them and I love how all the colours look together, I never actually wear them. I did choose the more childish clips though!

dudsville · 05/02/2023 21:35

Those are great clips. Also i think mid 30s it sometimes be hard to look grown up and responsible, so some people start to avoid things associated with youth. Once you're near 50 and above things can become fun again for those folks.

fruitstick · 06/02/2023 11:05

I've ordered some. Even if I never wear them out of the house, they will make me happy 😃

They are quite Mary Quant/ Orla Kiely. I love it when people dress with an element of design/ playfulness. I don’t think you can do it after the age of 49 though. Older Women must choose plain things.

Do you have any more tips for age appropriate dressing and grooming please?

What happens to us if we do not choose plain things?
