Help me find black wide legged trousers

So, I'd like to get some black wide legged trousers but I have a very specific idea in my head of what I want and haven't been able to find them.

I had a pair about 25 years ago (when I was a size 8) from Ted Baker and I loved them. They were kind of stiffer, IYKWIM. A lot of the ones I've found are either jersey material or quite light and floaty.

I will be wearing with flat boots or trainers. I'm a size 12. Budget less than £100.

The closest I've managed to find are these blue ones from Seasalt but they don't have them in black.

Surely, if anyone can help me, Mumsnet can!

M&S!

Cos

I'd second M&S. I have the same pair in three different colours. They're nice heavy fabric.

Saint and Sofia probably have some you'd like.

M&S!

Tried that. Only two pairs of black wide legged trousers - one too short and the other the wrong material

Thirding M&S - they have tons of black wide legs on their website, definitely more than 2 styles, look: www.marksandspencer.com/l/women/trousers/fs5/wide-leg/black?originalPrice=5%2C150

(Those Finery London ones look nice, if they're in budget.)

I'm on the cheaper end of the scale and these are the ones I have - had about 3 pairs now, they're ridiculously flattering. www.marksandspencer.com/wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60506507?color=BLACK

Hobbs? I was going to suggest Hobbs Pippa trousers but looks like they are sold out. But Hobbs generally are good for wideleg trousers.

COS, M&S, Massimom Dutti

MandaLynn · 26/01/2023 20:45

M&S - I have these ones and they're great
They also do 5 different lengths (extra short, short, regular, long, extra long)

mrsfeatherbottom · 28/01/2023 16:30

Thanks everyone. I've looked at all your suggestions and nothing that is what I'm looking for. All the material looks too flowy or soft, if you know what I mean. Maybe they don't exist. If I hadn't seen those Seasalt ones, I would think I was making them up!

Have you tried H&M?

londonmummy1966 · 28/01/2023 16:56

I think that you will have to try searching using the names of some heavy weight fabrics -so balck ladies wide leg gaberdine/twill/canvas trousers and see what comes up - on the high street the best bet is probably somewhere like TOAST but they will be more than £100.

MandaLynn · 28/01/2023 17:07

It's worth going to a bigger M&S so you can see them in person. The ones I have are a mid/heavy weight fabric, so definitely sound like they'd be what you're describing

edme · 28/01/2023 17:50

Have a look at these Whistles trousers:
www.whistles.com/product/185419.html

i ordered them but returned because I found them too stiff. Otherwise, good quality and nice cut. You're saying stiff's what you're after so they may be perfect for you.

sandycloud · 28/01/2023 18:26

I've just seen some on an advert for white stuff?? Thought they looked nice.

NotMeNoNo · 28/01/2023 19:33

How about the Community Clothing "work" trousers?

Hobbs did a style like this last summer, Samina, not black but very dark navy, they were brilliant.

I really like those! The photos look almost like linen though- did they look like they would crease easily?

I don't think they would crease as much as linen, because they are heavy weight cotton, very much like suit trousers. But yes, I'm sure there would be some creasing.

I have seen some good ones at Massimo Dutti too.

BeautifulWar · 28/01/2023 20:23

Next?

MadeOfSteel · 28/01/2023 21:00

M & S have some in just now that are made with quite a weighty fabric that is definitely not jersey. I quite fancy a pair for myself!

PAFMO · 28/01/2023 21:32

I have the M&S ones above, definitely neither jersey or floaty!
