Where is your most stylish coat from? I need ideas.

I want to treat myself to a beautiful, quality, stylish, 'looks expensive' coat. Budget up to £250.
I've checked a lot of the high street shops, none of them look good on me, or seem to be very good quality.
Functionality is secondary, but if it's warm, all the better.
I'm 5'3 and have an hourglass shape, which means that the straight up and down coats tend to look funny on me, as tight around bum, but baggy around waist.
Thanks.

The prettiest one I have is a hot pink cashmere Ted Baker coat. It’s three quarter length and has a belt. Not an everyday coat in that colour but you can get black or dark coloured ones

Jigsaw have the most beautiful wool coats .

MissMarplesbag · 17/01/2023 20:48

I've got a lovely wool Patrizia Pepe coat.

I have this coat from Hobbs. I sized up but got petite cut which looks good on my (hourglass too) shape. www.johnlewis.com/hobbs-petite-tilda-wool-coat/p5757599

I bought this www.monsoon.co.uk/cassandra-embroidered-coat--4518560108.html and it's stunning. Really good quality.

BHRK · 17/01/2023 21:39

The Ted Baker coat mentioned above is lovely, I have a few.
But my other lovely wool coats are from Jaegar

Wiennetta · 17/01/2023 21:40

My favourite coats are Max Mara (wool wrap coat) and Mackintosh (rain coat). Both would be above £250 new, but lots of Max Mara available secondhand so might be worth looking. I’d personally go for a second hand Max Mara than a new high street, the quality is amazing.

I love OUI coats. I've got 3 and always get compliments on them. Have a shop nearby that stocks OUI but have just seen they are online.

I have this. It satisfies my inner Kate Middleton 😁 They also do a similar velvet one. And there's a sale!

I don't know how warm it is as it's pissed down pretty much since I've had it but it mentions winter in the blurb.

Max Mara

DameCelia · 17/01/2023 22:05

MaxMara
Second hand at your price point. But head and shoulders above anything else you'll buy.

I came on to say MaxMara - love em. Also Harris Wharf have beautiful tailoring. Expensive but can be found in sales, (especially online sales) Very flattering.

In-Wear are good. You’d get one for around £200-£250 from there new.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/01/2023 22:10

MaxMara agreed. Really lovely coats and they pop up on Vinted fairly regularly.

That said, I've got a gorgeous hot pink coat from Primark which looks way more expensive than it was (£35)

@CharlotteStreetW1 this is gorgeous! How generous is the sizing? Really tempted by the green

Trofie · 17/01/2023 22:18

I have this from Max Mara, also a lovely coat from Magali Pascal, which was madly expensive but passed on by a friend who didn’t like it.

I have a red wool mix double breasted A line coat from Reiss. I think it’s about five years old now but still looks amazing. It’s like this one

The sizing is pretty true, if anything on the generous side. So if I were a size 16, I'd get the 14-16 and it would be fine. I hope you get it!

Badger1970 · 18/01/2023 13:21

My smartest coat is a Jaeger soft grey wool trench coat, which I found in an outlet for £250. My other one was a wool dress coat from M & S which I got for DD's winter wedding - that was £99 and I've more than had my monies worth for wear. It makes every outfit feel smart and hides a multitude of sins.

Budget buys include Monsoon and Joe Browns which are always really flattering.

Cailindeas35 · 18/01/2023 13:50

J crew cocoon coat, smart and really warm

Lucia574 · 18/01/2023 15:07

Spirini · 18/01/2023 15:12

I came to say exactly this. I have a blue one too.

Feels gorgeous and always gets compliments.

Shitfather · 18/01/2023 16:11

Sea New York and Horror Vacui. Utterly divine and unusual creations.

AnyRandomName · 18/01/2023 16:18

Also that Ted Baker coat. Mine is a lovey green and I also always get complimented on it.

I bought mine in the sale luckily.
