What I'd your favourite budget shampoo and conditioner?

Need to cut back. What are your favourite budget shampoo and
conditioners?

I don't like VO5 but I'm not sure why.

Many years ago I used Dove which left my hair with shine worthy of an advert but that's a bit blah now.

I have dry, long bleached hair that needs a quite heavy conditioner and very, very hard water.

That should say what IS your favourite budget hampoo and conditioner?

Herbal essences - strawberry and mint

Washaday · 04/01/2023 15:01

Herbal essences. But there's a really good conditioner, maybe Elvive, for longer hair that I rate. It's a yellow bottle!

Snoopystick · 04/01/2023 15:01

Oh just reread - probably no good for dry hair though

JaninaDuszejko · 04/01/2023 15:03

What's your definition of budget? I use Grüum shampoo bars which I usually buy when they are £5 each in the (regular) special offers.

I currently love the Pantene hair biology range, it’s not exactly ‘budget’ (it’s about £6 a bottle full price) but it’s often on offer and I stock up. My hair has never looked so shiny and healthy.

botleybump · 04/01/2023 15:04

Elvive dream lengths, extraordinary oil and...the pale purple one which is for hydration.
I find I have to alternate out extraordinary oil as it can lead to build up - I do wash every day though.

I was using these and loved them but my last trip to the HD has left my hair awful and they just cause it to mat up now which is a pain as I stocked up when they had an offer on!

Hair food. The coconut and macadamia I think it is. You can usually buy it in offer for around £3.00 - £4.00 for quite a large tub of conditioner.

Typo22 · 04/01/2023 15:47

I bought this on special offer and I'm amazed how soft it makes my hair. DDs hair feels amazing too as she uses it.

The only criticism is the bloody bottles. It's almost impossible to get the conditioner out because of the shape, you can't easily squeeze the bottles. I'm contemplating cutting the bottle in half and decanting it into tupperware because I love the actual shampoo and conditioner so much.

Alberto balsam is really good and £1 a bottle!

Squamata · 04/01/2023 16:17

You can make shampoo go further (therefore cheaper) with a dispenser nozzle bottle like you use for ketchup. Dilute the shampoo a bit, then use nozzle to get it on your roots.

You only really need the shampoo on your roots and diluting it makes it last much longer.

I like the Aussie miracle stuff. Usually on offer somewhere

WinterFoxes · 04/01/2023 16:25

Head & Shoulders apple 2-in-1. After lathering you need to remember to leave it on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing, so it conitions. If you rinse it off too soon, it can leave your hair dry but left in, it gives really glossy hair with good volume to it. And smells delicious.

Findyourneutralspace · 04/01/2023 16:26

Tresemme products for me. The big bottles are usually on offer.

Zuve · 04/01/2023 16:30

Garnier ultimate Blends Shampoo bar is amazing, foams well and is really tops. It also lasts ages and with no plastic is saving the planet

MotherOfHouseplants · 04/01/2023 16:31

Aussie Three Minute Miracle.

KirstenBlest · 04/01/2023 16:41

Alberto Balsam is fine, as is the Herbal Essences and the Schwarzkopf ones, and you can buy them in the £1 shop. Lidl Cien shampoo is good.

For a cheap hair mask, I use castor oil or coconut oil, both from £1 shop, as a pre-wash mask.

Karmagoat · 04/01/2023 16:42

Garnier ultimate blends honey shampoo

formulatingAresponse · 04/01/2023 16:47

Same I like Herbal Essences and Alberto Balsam. I have long fine bleached hair

catfunk · 04/01/2023 16:48

I buy faith in nature from tk maxx, their moisturising Shea conditioner is fab

baublesandbreakdowns · 04/01/2023 16:49

Xhc, it's a quid from savers.

SummerLove2306 · 10/01/2023 21:43

Bed head. £7 a bottle in home bargains. Bottle lasts MONTHS!

Also a fan of garnier food - both the banana and the papaya

catsonahottinroof · 10/01/2023 21:49

The Herbal Essences in a green bottle (lime) suits all different hair types in our family - or did, I notice the bottle has now gone opaque so I hope they've not changed the formula.
For conditioner, I'd go for a l'Oreal Elvive one, either the Dream Lengths strengthening, or the purple hylaronic acid one.

I love that shampoo. Best I've used for ages.
