What I'd your favourite budget shampoo and conditioner?

Need to cut back. What are your favourite budget shampoo and
conditioners?

I don't like VO5 but I'm not sure why.

Many years ago I used Dove which left my hair with shine worthy of an advert but that's a bit blah now.

I have dry, long bleached hair that needs a quite heavy conditioner and very, very hard water.

I second the ultimate blends, I use the Almond one, I think it's £2 a bottle in B&M it's makes my frizzy coarse dry hair soft and smooth and I love the smell.

Aussie

Follycastle · 10/01/2023 21:54

Aldi’s Aussie dupe - the moisture one. £1.19 a bottle each for the shampoo and conditioner

kenadams86 · 10/01/2023 21:58

My daughter has very dry long hair and the best shampoo I've found for her is the elvive dream length in orange bottle but also the one in the purple bottle too

MarmiteCoriander · 10/01/2023 22:01

Out of interest OP, how does your hair like very hard water??? I recently got a water softener in an extremally hard water area and the different is amazing! I have very thick, wavy, bra strap length hair and the amount of product I need now is about half! I use the treseme cheapie from either aldi or lidl and find it great.

Tinks15 · 10/01/2023 22:06

Not a recommendation but I find I have to switch my shampoo up every couple of months. It’s like my hair rejects & gets too used to the same shampoo & it starts to go dull, limp & greasy. Weird!

MaverickGooseGoose · 10/01/2023 22:09

Monday

Really like it, 3 for 2 in boots at the moment. Pump bottle so it stops my kids pouring it down the drain for fun.

MynameisJune · 10/01/2023 22:12

Monday hair care too. Boots stock it now.

Paraben and sls free. For £6 a bottle it’s not super cheap but it’s a good quality shampoo for the money.

paintitallover · 10/01/2023 22:28

I think it depends who for. When my kids were young or teens, it had to be cheap £1 shampoo, as they'd empty half a bottle onto themselves. I use L'Oreal, but it lasts me for weeks. It can be worth using a pump dispenser for kids.

RoseMartha · 10/01/2023 22:31

Argan oil shampoo comes in a tube £1 from poundland and lloyds chemist.

I'm the exact same!

SpaceCandyCoconut · 10/01/2023 22:33

Those huge bottles of Tresemme are my go to basic.

pompei8309 · 10/01/2023 22:35

L'Oreal Elvive Hydra Hyaluronic Acid Shampoo always wins

ImBlueDab · 10/01/2023 22:45

I use the aldi dupe of treseme and it's great

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 10/01/2023 23:13

Alberto balsam. I'm using the raspberry conditioner at the moment and it's really thick in consistency which I like as I like to feel like I've actually got conditioner on my hair. I have found the other scents are more runnier though

Iamnotausername · 12/01/2023 18:39

@MarmiteCoriander The only time I've experienced soft water is on holiday tbh and my hair just gets thrown into a plait then as I can't be bothered taking all the gizmos and potions with me. So I don't really know.

Did your hair detox as you washed away the hard water remnants.

I much prefer the taste of hard water over soft though!

Herbal Essences for me - ignite my colour.

Use that and a silver shampoo/conditioner once a week as I have highlights.

I bought this on special offer and I'm amazed how soft it makes my hair. DDs hair feels amazing too as she uses it.

The only criticism is the bloody bottles. It's almost impossible to get the conditioner out because of the shape, you can't easily squeeze the bottles. I'm contemplating cutting the bottle in half and decanting it into tupperware because I love the actual shampoo and conditioner so much.

I.love the Garnier Ultimate Blends Argan & Cranberry Protecting and Illuminating Shampoo. It smells lovely too. And the banana hair mask.

Fuckitydoodah · 12/01/2023 20:59

I recently bought a bottle of Superdrug's Revive shampoo for coloured hair. I've been really impressed with it. My colour has definitely lasted longer than usual in between salon visits. Gives a nice shine and hair feels healthy. Very hard water too.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/01/2023 21:04

I love Home Bargains 99p dupe caffeine shampoo. Supplemented with £2.99 Aussie 3 minute miracle my hair looks better than it has for years

TheChosenTwo · 12/01/2023 21:05

If your hair is bleached and dry aswell as long it could probably benefit from a cut, even a little home done trim if you can’t stretch to getting it done elsewhere.
My suggestion is the Davines all in one hair milk, my hair hadn’t been cut for months, actually probably coming on a year due to lockdowns/priorities and this literally transformed my dull dry crazy hair (although I don’t colour it) - it was miraculous!
My hair really doesn’t seem to look or feel any different when I use expensive products or cheaper ones. I tend to just get whatever’s on offer when I’m doing the online shop!

wannarunfromitall · 12/01/2023 21:14

I have bleached trashed shoulder length hair.

I swear by Toni and Guy Bedhead Oatmeal and Honey shampoo and conditioner - sounds fancy but it's about £15 for the duo from Amazon and they're 750ml bottles so do the maths and it's cheaper than supermarket crap.

Also coconut oil, get a jar of it from supermarket and slather it on once a week for 20 mins before washing and conditioning as usual.

wannarunfromitall · 12/01/2023 21:16

Oh and the cheap blue shampoo for old ladies every couple of washes.

MumUndone · 12/01/2023 21:38

Palmers coconut oil moisture boost. Smells lovely too.
