Dyson Hairdryer.. thoughts? Ungrateful?

My OH has bought me one for my birthday a couple of days ago. I already have a GHD one, and others. It's over £300.

My instinct is to return it - I don't need a hairdryer, he's only bought it as a 'something' (my birthday straight after Christmas makes it hard to find things I want/need.). If I had £300 to spare I'd rather get my teeth whitened (which I want but struggle to justify).

That said, I've got thick unmanageable hair.

Anyone got one and think they're amazing? Returning it feels ungrateful but keeping it feels like a waste...

I actually love mine. I've very thick hair that can be very difficult to style. The smoothing attachment that comes with it is fab! So much so that I no longer straighten my hair with straighteners
Also my hair dries is about 1/2 the time

Thank you... I think I'll keep it then 😊

Definitely try it before you decide.

My sister has very fine hair which dries no problem. She has no need for a dyson at all.

My hair is thick and unruly and it really does make a difference.

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/12/2022 14:15

My gym has them (Dyson) and I liked them so much that I got my own. However, quite a few of the gym members say that GHD is much better than the Dyson so......(I haven't tried GHD myself).

Essexexile · 31/12/2022 14:24

Keep the Dyson if that’ll suit your hair type better and sell the GHD one. I have. GHD one and it’s great for my short, fine hair, someone with similar hair might well bite your hand off for it if you sell at a reasonable price.

Mamette · 31/12/2022 14:24

I have one and like it. I had Parlux(es) before the Dyson and I find the Dyson uses less heat to do the same job.

Soproudoflionesses · 31/12/2022 14:53

I just got one too op and have only used it once. Not sure it wowed me but wondering if l need to use it differently

I like mine I bought it on Black Friday from Dyson Refurbished on eBay, after discounts and extra nectar points were taken into account it cost about £150, it was brand new in cellophane not refurbished so I was very pleased. I have curly hair and like it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/12/2022 15:54

I have one and I love it. I have thick curly hair that I straighten and the Dyson dries it far quicker than any other hairdryer I’ve tried. It’s also lighter and quieter than my old hairdryer

QuietYou · 31/12/2022 15:58

I love mine. My hair looks so good when I bumped into my hairdresser she thought I'd started going to someone else.

AuntieMarys · 31/12/2022 16:02

I think it's average ...I have a parlux which is better. However it's not as heavy as the parlux.

ReindeerBelieve · 31/12/2022 16:23

I love mine - I have longish fine hair and it dries it so beautifully I don't bother with the straighteners

Prior to the Dyson I had a Parlux

If my Dyson broke I would replace it with another Dyson

AHelpfulHand · 31/12/2022 16:27

I have one and really rate it, quieter than others, faster drying etc.

there are a lot of fakes on eBay. I know someone who paid full price and bought from eBay who they thought was an official Dyson retailer and when there was an issue with it, Dyson inspected it and said it was a fake

DJSteves · 31/12/2022 16:27

Keep it! Once you get the hang of it it will dry your hair super fast. I love mine

Nepoyeah · 31/12/2022 16:31

It depends on if you find normal hairdryers heavy and annoying - I do, so its smallness, lightness and speed of drying are a real godsend to me and I really love it. I also have the the air wrap which is a waste of time for me.

Blendandmix · 31/12/2022 16:32

I have thick hair and I don't find it dries fast or well with the dyson!

HeidiWhole · 31/12/2022 16:40

Very long, very thick hair here and I LOVE mine. I would also replace it if it broke. It works without the intense heat that is so damaging when you have hair that takes forever to dry.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/12/2022 16:43

Really like my Dyson and I have thick hair that wants to be curly but I won't humour it. I've had it a year now and I can dry it straight and frizz free without straighteners so my hair is in much better condition now.

chelle0 · 31/12/2022 16:45

My old, brilliant, GHD one died and I replaced it with another. Biggest mistake, it's awful. Wish I'd got a Dyson.

Same - I was bought one as a gift and I prefer my old hairdryer. I don’t find the Dyson dries my hair particularly quickly, definitely slower than my old one, and I don’t notice any improvement in the condition of my hair.

LilyRose88 · 31/12/2022 17:03

I have thick slightly wavy hair that goes really thick and puffy when I dry it with a normal hairdryer. My hairdresser recommended the Dyson hairdryer and I bit the bullet and bought one back in December. It really makes a difference to my hair - it dries really quickly with the Dyson and there is no more frizz.

Giggorata · 31/12/2022 17:07

I got mine from DIL. I like the lightness and speediness of drying.
I have fine hair that varies from curl to wave to frizz, according to the position of the planets, I think, but the Dyson and products can generally do something with it.

Greengr · 31/12/2022 18:36

My Dh bought one for myself and Dd a few years ago ( him and Ds had been to lots of away football games and I had been moaning!).She loved hers but has mega long thick hair, I tried it but didn't do any better than the diva hairdryer I had but my hair is finer and shorter. I returned mine and bought the vacuum cleaner instead. Grin

Bananaman123 · 31/12/2022 21:22

Had cheap ones, changed to parlux and got the dyson for my birthday. I like it, lightweight which is a must for me, less heat but dries just the same. Sold my parlux and now just use the dyson.
