Primark- no receipt gift but need a bigger size

SheenaShoemaker · 26/12/2022 22:23

I've been given some boots without a receipt for Xmas. Friend bought it but has lost said receipt. Could I just go in, get my size and then return the smaller one with said receipt? Or is this fraud?!!!

I think without a receipt they will give you a gift card.

WeepingSomnambulist · 26/12/2022 22:26

The recipet will have the size on it so no, you cant.

Just ask them if you can do an exchange without a reciept. They might let you.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/12/2022 22:27

They'll let you exchange without a receipt.

WeepingSomnambulist · 26/12/2022 22:27

*receipt ffs

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/12/2022 22:33

Primark refund policy

Most retailers require a receipt for an exchange now, I think the days of walking in off the street with something they sell and getting an exchange or gift card are long gone.

The item code will differ between sizes, you'd only be able to return an item you had a receipt for where those item codes matched (aka the same size boots) so what you're proposing wouldn't work anyway.

I'd ask the friend to look again or try to recoup some of the cost towards a new pair in the right size by selling in Ebay or vinted.

han01uk · 26/12/2022 22:39

Primark will not do anything without a receipt, not even a gift card or exchange.

SheenaShoemaker · 26/12/2022 22:40

The boots are so cheap and probably not worth the hassle of reselling anyway. They are hunting for the receipt but we aren't hopeful!

I tried to exchange a pair of kids PJs still on the hanger for the exact same pair in a bigger size, wasn't allowed at all.

Snowdropsarelovely · 27/12/2022 07:50

Primark won't do anything at all without a receipt, not even an exchange

ItsJustMyFace · 27/12/2022 07:54

Primark will only exchange if you have a receipt. I've had this happen many times, family buy the DC gifts from Primark but don't keep the receipt, the clothes don't fit, Primark won't exchange, so I end up taking them the charity shop.

Ewisa · 27/12/2022 08:00

I tried to exchange one top in Primark without a receipt, but without success. So I gave it to a friend:-)

Whatdayisitalexa · 27/12/2022 08:05

They are strict about receipts I'm afraid. Extended returns for Christmas have been in force since early October and gift receipts available at request. The good news is the receipt is valid until end of Jan...so time for your friend to find it

Fufumcgoo · 27/12/2022 08:14

You need proof of purchase.

This is because they will have several people a day walk in, grab something off the shelf and try to return it.

Fufumcgoo · 27/12/2022 08:16

As a side, I do wish people wouldn't buy clothes for others without checking their sizes. It always turns into uch a bloody faff. You either have to go out to swap the size or return and choose something different you actually like, or take it to the charity shop or dick about selling it.

To me it's the ultimate fuck you gift.

Crazykefir · 27/12/2022 08:17

My experience is that primark needsxa receipt.

Harperweek · 27/12/2022 08:21

As others have said, with Primark, you must have a receipt. Been like that for a good few years.

Whatdayisitalexa · 27/12/2022 08:53

Yes the original receipt or gift receipt...not a proof of purchase or a photo of the original unfortunately

Whatdayisitalexa · 27/12/2022 09:00

I would suggest you take a look at any retailers website before heading out, spending money on fuel, carparking or bus fare and queueing and then having a argument about what you see as 'reasonable'..saves everyone's time that way 😉

user1471505356 · 27/12/2022 09:17

Did you pay by card might be proof.

She didn't buy it...and no it's not possible to trace a card payment even if other shops can or might offer. That's why I suggested checking the website firstly. The many discussions that have been had over the years, with a customer 'helpfully' suggesting what you could do to solve their problem..demanding stuff...telling you they've got rights it's the law etc. Martin Lewis gives great advice on this as always, if you are unsure or the retailer's website is unclear.

SheenaShoemaker · 27/12/2022 09:35

We should be able to get the credit card statement but I'm guessing no detail shown of the boots.

Yes that's the issue. It also doesn't prove the boots you have are the ones that were purchased either. The technology has recently been upgraded but the requirement to have a receipt hasn't. Hopefully your friend will come across the receipt before it expires at the end of January. It's sods law that the receipt needed is the lost one as she's probably got piles of them squirrelled away!

SheenaShoemaker · 27/12/2022 19:05

WE FOUND THE RECEIPT!
