Primark- no receipt gift but need a bigger size

I've been given some boots without a receipt for Xmas. Friend bought it but has lost said receipt. Could I just go in, get my size and then return the smaller one with said receipt? Or is this fraud?!!!

Thanks everyone, it's good to know how strict Primark really is

I think even marks and spencer have gotten stricter with their returns policy. It was them that started the exchange without a receipt I recall and we of a certain know stories of how people took advantage of their generosity over the years- and now they are closing stores that are not profitable. We've lost a lot of high street stores in the last decade for the same reason.

Some shops like Next, I believe, have a way of tracing individual items on their till systems but not all shops do, but customers just assume it's an option

.When you buy from a retailer you are actually entering into a contract with regards to agreed returns policies ( if they have them) that's for the person who purchased the item of course. They all set these up to suit their business though. The saleable condition issue often comes up when people bring back muddy shoes and smelly stained clothes arguing 'you could resell them' 🤨

Statutory rights are something separate and relates to faulty items, a manufacturing fault mainly, and the decision is then made by a manager. Having the receipt always helps the decision, evidence that the item was paid for and how long ago etc

Heres a thought, why not standardise the stores floor plan, so returns desk is front of store adjacent to the entrance, so you pass throught it to get to the stock ?
Eliminate the con merchants and and specific need for reciepts Duh!

If your friend paid on a card he or she will at least have the bank transaction. Try to use that for the exchange.

There is no returns desk. People often do a shop or a browse before they join the cashiers queue
