Soft summer- with dark brown hair and eyes?

Glitterkitten24 · 20/12/2022 21:28

I paid for an online colour analysis- I’ve always thought I was winter toned (deep winter perhaps?) and wanted get a second/ professional opinion.

They reckon I am a soft summer! I have dark (but cool) brown eyes and mid to dark brown hair. I’ve looked online at celebrities/ videos about soft summer colour online and I just can’t see anyone who really looks like me!
they recommed muted/ pastel colours but these are not colours I think I suit, and white positively washes me out.
Could have it wrong?
Anyone willing to give me an opinion if I were to post a photo?

I should say, I tend towards plums/ emeralds/ royal blues which I think suit me but maybe I am deluded and just dressing for what I think is my season?!
I don’t own many pastel colours, I’ve always steered clear.

I’d have a look if you like. I’ve recently had my colours done and now look at people and try to work out their season all the time 😂

Blondbombsite · 20/12/2022 21:38

Just to point out that their are a few soft summer celebrities with dark hair and eyes, like Katie Holmes or Miranda Kerr.

LeadingStar · 20/12/2022 21:41

I'm a soft summer, I always thought it was Leighton Meester kind of vibe, muted low contrast skin/ features/ hair and as you say suits pastels. Mind you it's not the sort of career that's regulated or that you need a qualification to be able to do so it's possible your analyst got it wrong. Katie Holmes is a soft summer have you similar colouring to her?

Glitterkitten24 · 20/12/2022 21:41

Thank you, I’ll forgo vanity and post a picture even though I’m scared to (I might remove it later).

@Blondbombsite both of those people have much paler/ brighter eyes than me, even though their hair is dark.

This is slightly darker than my natural hair colour, my real hair colour is more a mid ash brown. Hopefully will give you an idea though @Blondbombsite

Nothing like KH, LM is more similar to my coloring, please see photo above. Does this look similar to your soft summer experience?

I think it’s due to the low contrast between my skin and hair?

That was to @LeadingStar , sorry forgot to tag you!

My guess is that you are a spring, so the bright colours but the warm version. Winters tend to have a higher contrast.

Glitterkitten24 · 20/12/2022 21:52

That’s interesting @p4p, cool was the only part of the report that I thought might be right! 😂 Do you think warm?

OP posts:
p4p · 20/12/2022 21:53

the top you are wearing in the photo looks warm and it's very easy to focus on your face. if the colour was warm and distracting to your face I'd have felt different. :D

p4p · 20/12/2022 21:56

Search for some of the spring types like paintbox spring and bright spring and if see if you can relate

I would say you could be Summer. You have a glowing skin and I don't think it would suit muddy colours, and I think Winter tones would be too strident.

If you say mid ash brown hair, that sounds Summer.

OrangePomander · 20/12/2022 22:01

I agree that ash brown hair suggests the cool side.

Flapjack637 · 20/12/2022 22:03

I struggle with this too. I thought I was a winter but was told I’m an autumn. Could you be a true summer. This post suggests the colours are quite similar to true winter colours and the colours you mention are in there.

Do you have anyone with a good eye for this sort of thing who could help you if you tried on a load of different colours.

Ultimately I’d just carry on wearing what you feel happy in.

OrangePomander · 20/12/2022 22:07

How about deep or dark summer, or deep winter (on House of Colour system). Might even be a burnished winter?

OrangePomander · 20/12/2022 22:08

If you Google ‘types of summer’ or the same for winter there are explanations.

LeadingStar · 20/12/2022 22:18

I think you would suit pastels, especially with natural lighter hair. I reckon your skin would look its best with pastel shades.

I don't agree. I have warmth in my hair and I'm a winter.

Also, OP did you know what looks ash in your hair may look warm in someone else's? Skin colour is far more important than hair colour in HoC, at least.

Findyourneutralspace · 20/12/2022 22:48

You are very similar to my friend who is warm/deep/soft. She looks great in muted autumnal tones.

Findyourneutralspace · 20/12/2022 22:53

Oh, I’ve just googled soft summer and it’s very similar to her colour palette. We went to a CMB consultation together and she spent ages on my friend, because she wasn’t typical.
I’m straightforward cool/clear - high contrast winter shades that you’d spot a mile off but hers was more complicated. I actually thought we’d be the same when we went because we both have similar hair.

I was analysed as a light summer and convinced I’m a muted/soft summer! I’d say I have similar skin to you, but blue/grey eyes. Like someone said above, the analysts aren’t regulated, and I think doing it online is guess work at best. I wish I could justify paying for a face to face analysis.

princessbear80 · 20/12/2022 23:20

I also read somewhere that soft/muted summer is the closest there is to a neutral colour palette - neither warm nor cool.

Zengarden001 · 21/12/2022 06:35

I'm very similar colouring to you @Glitterkitten24 and I'd say I was a soft/muted summer. I've got neutral/cool skin, cool dark brown eyes and dark hair.

I think the hair colour can easily tip one into a different category (e.g I can wear winter tones when I dye my hair a bit darker and provide more contrast) - it's also the thing that is most easily changed!

One thing I found useful is thinking about what is your dominant characteristic e.g is it tone (warm/cool) contrast (muted/deep) or value (light/dark) - for me my contrast can change but i always look best in cool tones.

Valkirie · 21/12/2022 07:29

The soft summer palette is more about soft muted colours than pastels. I’m not completely convinced that this is your season though, as it looks like you have some slight warmth to your complexion?
