CREW CLOTHING- A NEW SHOP IN TOWN

User434356 · 20/12/2022 17:17

Sorry for the caps.

I've just seen Crew has opened in my town.

What's the verdict?

I've always thought they were rather non descript and had their roots in sailing type clothes.

Had a look at their website and it just seems pretty much like many other mid-range brands like Joules or Oliver Bonas.

Your assessment is correct!

ferretface · 20/12/2022 17:56

vibe: Boden meets Henley meets Joules/rugby/sailing/country pursuits, if it were a person it probably went to Exeter or St Andrews.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/12/2022 17:56

We have one. Sort of preppy clothes. Not like Oliver Bonas at all which I think is more modern. More like Joules for sure. I don't like it as I think the clothes are frumpy. I am aged 60.

User434356 · 20/12/2022 18:23

I hear you all!

@ApolloandDaphne I'm older than you by a few years and I feel they are frumpy.

Dh likes their rugby shirts and shirts. It's quite good quality, still looks good after many washes. I agree that their women's stuff is quite frumpy though.

Ocrumbs · 20/12/2022 18:42

I like the occasional top but I wouldn't buy much from there

witchesbubblebath · 20/12/2022 18:46

I can understand why people say it is similar to Joules, but it is similar to the quality and style Joules used to be. Joules used to wear alot better and the colour schemes and print were different, too.
In my opinion, Crew clothing has not lost its quality as so many brands now have and I buy alot of it second hand from Vinted because you can tell that the cotton is heavy and will last forever. I hope it won't be another brand that changes its brand identity and also its quality, but I've got enough of it to sink a ship anyway 😅

Brogues · 20/12/2022 21:30

DH (45) likes their half zip jumpers and they wash really well.

BHRK · 20/12/2022 22:05

Dh wears loads, it washes really well and good for the price. I wear some of their summer skirts and dresses but find most of it a bit frumpy

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/12/2022 22:18

It's standard hooray Henry uniform. Chinos and a "rugger " top.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 20/12/2022 22:39

Had a jumper 12 months ago. Awful quality for the money.

Beanbagtrap · 20/12/2022 22:41

It's safe, you can go in, pick anything up and it will be suitable (and dull)

PicaNewName · 20/12/2022 22:44

i love their rugby tops, I just chucked one after 14 years because I 'outgrew' it. And they keep me warm, very hard to get long sleeve tops that don't lose their shape and the material is sturdy.
I have a summer dress from them but the rest os mostly frumpy, like Fat Face.

stickybear · 20/12/2022 22:47

Some things are definitely a bit frumpy (I ordered a dress this summer that was gorgeous on the model but made me look like Hyacinth Bucket circa 1995) but I find their Bretons and plain tops, vests and sweatshirts really good quality and value for money. Much better than Joules or Fat Face and much more classic in style.

evtheria · 20/12/2022 22:49

It isn't my thing, very Joules or Jack Wills to my eyes, but oddly enough last week we checked to see what make DP's old down jacket was, and it was Crew! He had bought it years ago from TKMaxx at a steal, though unfortunately they don't have one like it right now. It looks nothing like their usual stuff (glossy black puffer) more Zara or Topman.

Saurus72 · 20/12/2022 23:39

I think we may live on the same town OP - it opened where I live about a week or two ago. I got excited when I saw a new shop was opening where Claire’s Accesories used to be only to be v disappointed when I saw it was Crew!

Ariela · 21/12/2022 02:18

We've a Crew in Henley and yes, good solid quality, not much individuality. It's OK but very same-y

Eve · 21/12/2022 02:24

Their sweatshirts and jeans are good ( and my standard wfh attire) as everyone says they are good quality & wash well.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/12/2022 11:59

It always looks to me like a (private) school uniform shop for adults. Good for them to be opening new stores in this climate I suppose but I always bypass it, just seems so hugely uninspiring and expensive to boot.

witchesbubblebath · 21/12/2022 12:25

Reminds me a tiny bit of Gant. Gant is really good quality.

NeedWineNow · 21/12/2022 14:04

We've got one not far from us. I think the women's clothing s extremely frumpy, although I have got a hoodie and a pair of cropped trousers that I got in the sale. Good quality but very 'safe' if you know what I mean.

I think the men's stuff is much better. DH has bought a lot in there, from t-shirts and polo shirts to casual cotton shorts and his quilted jacket. Again everything is of good quality and washes well.

SuperGinger · 21/12/2022 14:40

I have a super frumpy denim skirt from there but I love it for round the house.

I think we're in the same town!

I've had a look but not too impressed. Especially since I always think this town is much more quirky than Joules/Crew etc and we have some fabulous independent shops with much more interesting clothing.

Ha, yes! I know it’s a strange thing - there are so many lovely indie retailers/restaurants that yes that little row of shops doesn’t really make sense 🤷‍♀️

stickybear · 21/12/2022 18:22

I'll add that there kids stuff is really good quality, my DS (4) has some really nice bits from there
