How often do you have your hair cut and coloured?

I think I'll have a higher frequency response by posting in style and beauty than if I posted elsewhere but still, how often do you get your hair cut and coloured?

I used to be on a 10-12 week cycle of foils and cut which has reduced to 6-8 week cycle but due to increasing costs I'm thinking of stretching it out again.

Wondering what the norm is around here?

Never colour but have a trim every 6-8 weeks as my hair is fine and breaks easily

NeedWineNow · 06/12/2022 09:49

Cut and roots every 8-10 weeks. I was always a darkish blonde which covered the grey but lockdown meant that grew out fairly quickly. I changed hairdresser about a year ago as my old one was a bit set in her ways and a bit resistant to trying anything new with my hair. I wanted a colour that blended in the grey without the regrowth showing too much and my new lady suggested a full head of highlights to lighten it up rather than a blanket colour and then we could take it from there. Cost me an arm and a leg, but it means I have gone a lot lighter so the grey actually blends in more and I don't need to have done as regularly. I am really pleased with it.

I get colour (highlights about every 8-10 weeks sometimes 12 weeks and usually a cut too, sometimes I just go for a trim but last time she cut more than I wanted but it’s looking much healthier for it.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 06/12/2022 17:21

I used to get it coloured monthly but now embrace the grey. As for cut a it’s been 11 months this time, but I am trying to grow out a grade two cut..

ILoveMyBedTooMuch · 06/12/2022 21:01

Cut and coloured every 8 weeks. Half head highlights , root colour and cut and bow dry. my hair grows quickly.

Pictograph · 06/12/2022 21:03

Coloured - once every 3 months
Cut - once every 6 months

Smearywindowsagain · 06/12/2022 21:04

I have my roots done every 8 weeks. It used to be four but I have a root smudge now so get a bit longer

OrangePomander · 06/12/2022 21:08

Salon cut every six to eight weeks, and I box dye every two or three.

NotMeNoNo · 06/12/2022 21:08

6 weeks, I have a pixie cut so it needs regular trims and I have a semi permanent colour. Bit of an indulgence but I don't have nails/waxing/eyebrow treatments at all. I grew my grey through a few years ago but I didn't like it so I am going to keep colouring for a while.

Tartopommes · 06/12/2022 22:03

Roots coloured every 4 weeks, although sometimes stretch to 5. They're quite visible (to me!) at 3 weeks as I am very grey. Mid-30s and not ready to embrace it yet. Flipping expensive though.

Trim 3-4 months or so, my hair is long and same length all over.

hollisatze · 07/12/2022 06:56

I'm definitely going to revert to stretching out my colour. Will try for 10 week intervals but will probably be anywhere between 8-12 weeks depending on what's going on.

Haven't really used boxed dyes and not sure how that would interfere with also having hair coloured in salon? But considering that too to help with the stretch.

Half head of foils (highlights and lowlights) with olaplex and a trim every 10 or so weeks. I’m dark with salt and pepper greys (long hair) so it’s quite a forgiving grow-out phase and means I can just about afford the expense in terms of time and money — takes aaaages!

Cornelious · 07/12/2022 07:41

Get bayalage and cut every 5 months then I do my roots at home every month.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/12/2022 14:25

I have very short hair, a bit like a pixie.Mine is cut and coloured every 6 weeks
Ex salon hairdresser set up in her garage and charges me £45
I love having a cut and a catch up
I'm very lucky

Feelallright · 07/12/2022 14:28

I get it cut maybe once a year. I colour it myself at home, which I do every two-three months.

cptartapp · 07/12/2022 14:33

Every 9-10 weeks or so. My hair grows fast. I used to have it done more often but discovered root spray during COVID so now manage to eek it out a bit longer.

whatthejuice · 07/12/2022 14:56

Every 10 weeks. If I go longer my hair gets very dry and I need more off anyway!

Jakadaal · 07/12/2022 15:30

Every 6 weeks - colour and cut alternating root maintenance and highlights at each appointment

ofwarren · 07/12/2022 15:33

I don't.
I stopped colouring and cutting at the start of the pandemic.
I might possibly go for a trim in the future if the ends start looking tatty.
It's currently mid back length with a few greys through the temples.

Vetoncall · 07/12/2022 16:34

I get my roots/base colour done every 6 weeks and a full head of foils every other time, so every 12 weeks.

I don't get it cut, my hair is past mid back length, thick and naturally very curly, I just trim the ends myself every few months. I cut each curl randomly at uneven lengths as it sits better that way. If it's all the same length I'd get a triangle head effect 😄 Most hairdressers can't/don't cut curly hair properly.

Tigofigo · 08/12/2022 19:14

Twice a year balayage but it really needs to be three times... Looks awful for the last 6 weeks but it's so expensive! Get it cut every 12 weeks or so

SparkyBlue · 08/12/2022 19:18

Every five to six weeks for my roots with usually some lights added in every second or third visit . I'm really grey so I've visible roots after three weeks and I'm already as light as I can possibly be to suit my colouring.

GettingStuffed · 09/12/2022 07:07

Cut when the length gets annoying so once every few years, coloured when I can be arsed.

Goodgrief82 · 09/12/2022 08:13

Trim every 10-12 weeks £90

1/2 head highlights every 14 weeks £150

MollyRover · 09/12/2022 08:22

@Smearywindowsagain can I ask what a root smudge is?
