Turner Prize Dinner. Fancy place and food, full of London arty types, but in Liverpool. Not black tie. No idea what to wear. Remote chance of being caught on telly.

Size 18, 50, bewbs and arse. Prefer to look stylish than pretty. Not sure if i would be more horrified to be over or underdressed.

ANY ideas, before I decide its too stressful and back out.

Always better to be overdressed than underdressed, except in Artie type occasions. Honestly, some of them will turn up looking homeless.

TizerorFizz · 30/11/2022 17:17

Velvet trouser suit. Cannot go wrong. Not black. Green, navy or burgundy or copper/deep gold. Lots around and you can wear it again! Or separately.

Mumsnut · 30/11/2022 17:19

I think Tizer has it

I know

And Liverpool is very dressed up - so I have lost my barometer a bit

Have a few sensory issues with velvet tbh and feel like it would be a bit hot?

You say that before, I’ve got all three of mine at uni in Liverpool, and those who can least afford to dress up, seem to dress to the nines, everybody else is very relaxed from what I’ve seen of the photos.

IsItThough · 30/11/2022 17:30

I just don't want to look like the mother of the bride

Velvet palazzo pants and sparkly top
then. Or satin.

it’s not a uni do and possibly not typical
of a Liverpool boozy night either. Dressing up
is cultural and not much to do with disposable income.

LadyHarmby · 30/11/2022 17:45

Simple black dress and jazzy earrings

LadyHarmby · 30/11/2022 17:46

Dark colour if not black

IsItThough · 30/11/2022 17:48

Lady H I think you are right

The green velvet jumpsuit with gold sandals would be perfect. Very on trend but not too dressy.

HowCanIPayItForward · 30/11/2022 18:31

Another vote for the green velvet jumpsuit

IsItThough · 30/11/2022 18:32

I LOVE the temperly jumpsuit

some people in black tie, some people in old sacks tied by string, high concentration of very fashion stuff, smattering of the kind of post-ironic 80s/90s stuff that looks shit but is apparently cool and I am too old to understand

I'd be tempted by a palazzo pant

Bloody hell. Have you got any seperates? Wide trousers, blazer, tops you feel good in? As a base for your outfit?
I usually wear something simple and go all out with hair and make-up.

SocksAndTheCity · 30/11/2022 18:56

I don't think you can be overdressed in Liverpool - everybody looks fabulous even at 9am. I'm reasonably well put together but if I go there I look like I slept in a skip 😀

IsItThough · 30/11/2022 19:01

love that too but the arse might be a bit too arsey for it

Mercedesbenz2022 · 30/11/2022 19:05

That’s going to be a fab night
don’t back out , great venue
yeah palazzo pants and a fancy ( maybe matching ) top
I wouldn’t wear a jumpsuit unless you can get in and out of it easily as the queue for the toilets is long !!! And it will be a total faff
dress up , it’s Christmas and a fab venue

GellerYeller · 30/11/2022 19:12

If you Google last year’s event do any photos come up so you can get an idea what the attendees wore? Masks probably!

LifeIsGreatForUnicorns · 30/11/2022 19:17

What about this?
looks really nice on as a wrap dress, suits whatever height you are, is a satin so looks dressy and won’t break the bank!
also light enough to wear to a summer do too
