PLANET clothing - has any heard of of it?

I got a really nice cardigan in a charity shop this week which is branded PLANET, and I’d like to buy more from this brand. Unfortunately I can’t find anywhere online that sells it. There are a few pieces on Vinted.
Has anyone heard of it, or is it maybe some long extinct brand?

Oh god the typos - sorry!

I remember PLANET. Don’t think it’s around anymore. 90s / 00s, I think.

MissBattleaxe · 25/11/2022 23:21

Great quality. Used to be in our local House of Fraser. Haven't seen it in a while.

CellarBellaatemycoal · 25/11/2022 23:22

Planet was great. The stuff still has a high resale value.

CellarBellaatemycoal · 25/11/2022 23:23

It all went a bit ‘mother of the bride’ in the end , which I think probs contributed to its demise. But lovely fabrics

DelphiniumBlue · 25/11/2022 23:23

It was a great brand for fairly upmarket office/smart wear back in the 80's & 90's. I'd buy things like a decent tailored winter coat in the sales, or maybe a suit. I don't know when it went out of business.. there used to be concessions in department stores, not sure I ever saw an actual shop.

Lilliflip · 25/11/2022 23:26

Oh that’s a shame, the cardigan looks like new and is great quality, and fits perfectly.

Strange, I bought a PLANET jacket in a charity shop this week and wondered the same. Maybe we leave near each other and someone was having a clear out!

CorporateBull · 25/11/2022 23:30

I’ve still got an unstructured suit from Planet. It was a very aspirational brand for someone just starting out at work in the late 90s!

Sindonym · 25/11/2022 23:30

Yeah was house of Fraser. At least that’s where o got my planet stuff from years ago.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 25/11/2022 23:31

Yes it was quite a big brand in the 90’s. It went a bit ‘regional newsreader’.

unsync · 25/11/2022 23:31

Wasn't it Windsmoor for younger women? And yes, 80s and 90s.

Lilliflip · 25/11/2022 23:31

I’m going to go back tomorrow and see if there’s anything else in there!

😅at ‘regional newsreader’ I work in quite a formal environment and it’s perfect for it!

Oo loved Planet for work clothes in the 90s, think I still have a slinky shift dress from them. They were kind of Hobbs-ish.

MichelleScarn · 25/11/2022 23:39

I remember my mum having a Chanel-esque suit from Planet in the 1990s I loved!

HeraldicBlazoning · 25/11/2022 23:40

Yes fairly upmarket, they used to sell it in House of Fraser back in the day.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 25/11/2022 23:43

Yeah, it was sold in department stores. Think Precis Petite was part of the same group (just for short people). I still have a Planet work suit although it only gets worn for interviews.

Mañanarama · 25/11/2022 23:49

Yep, I worked in a department store (not HoF) as a student mid 90’s and there was Planet, Windsmoor, Jaeger and Country Casuals right next to bridalwear, as they all had mother of the bride type outfits. Planet was best for the slightly younger customers and also had smart work clothes.

It was part of this group:

I remember buying Planet for work in tbe very early 90s from Kendals in Manchester.and Browns of Chester I thought I looked smart and sophisticated but my mum said it aged me!

Wasn't it Windsmoor for younger women? And yes, 80s and 90s I thought that brand was for the older, Mother of the Bride demographic.

RonaldMcDonald · 26/11/2022 02:18

I had a drop dead blue red revenge suit. Tiny nipped in jacket with midi kind of hobble skirt. Planet. I wore it to a wedding and I have never been happier with a purchase or it’s effect.
House of Fraser purchase - really nice quality for some pieces

GetUsedToTheHeatAgain · 26/11/2022 03:03

I used to buy a lot of Planet (mostly in the sale) good quality clothing , still have a few bits from years ago inc a silk shift dress the now queen has worn and love it.

Also a long very heavy dark chocolate brown wool coat with velvet collar and deep cuffs, sadly its shrunk and I cannot button it !

GetUsedToTheHeatAgain · 26/11/2022 03:07

Ha found the dress on Ebay!

Yes, I think they were all different brands of the same company. My mum used to get a lot of her workwear from Precis Petite, and they were always in the same section of the department store as Windsmoor and Planet.

Mrcpy · 26/11/2022 06:06

My mum bought my first suit from Planet, for university interviews. I still wear it today ❤
