PLANET clothing - has any heard of of it?

I got a really nice cardigan in a charity shop this week which is branded PLANET, and I’d like to buy more from this brand. Unfortunately I can’t find anywhere online that sells it. There are a few pieces on Vinted.
Has anyone heard of it, or is it maybe some long extinct brand?

I worked for the group about 20 years ago. I had a grey Planet suit. It was in Debenhams.

Sooverthemill · 26/11/2022 09:50

80s it was big. I think my skirt and jacket for my registry office wedding in 1987 came from there. It was smart stuff : work and events type. Quality was good

PAFMO · 26/11/2022 09:58

As pp says, part of the Jacques Vert group. Windsmoor etc.
Excellent quality, we had a factory shop near us. My mum was a manager and lived in JV, Eastex, Windsmoor, Country Casuals, Jaeger etc. I think the modern day equivalent would be Hobbs, LK Bennett etc. Not high fashion ever, just quality fabrics and cuts.

I had an amazing full length wool coat from (iirc) Planet about 20 years ago and some trousers (that I loved- also because sizing was vanity before it became a thing and while I was a 12-14 everywhere else I was an 8 in Planet)

Alexandernevermind · 26/11/2022 10:01

I had a long Planet skirt I used to wear to work in the late 80s - I was a YTS so felt very swish in it 🤣

EvilRingahBitch · 26/11/2022 10:04

There was a branch at Liverpool Street in the early nineties. Very high class schmutter but I could only afford it in the sales (also it was a bit old for me).

JackandVera · 26/11/2022 10:07

I used to wear Planet to work in the 1990s. Very good brand then.

Stoic123 · 26/11/2022 10:18

My first job suit was from there in 1990s (present from mum - couldn't afford).

Quality was excellent but, in hindsight, style a bit 'old' for someone in their early 20s (mum was paying and needed to appprove though....).

A good find.

HeraldicBlazoning · 26/11/2022 10:35

I volunteer in a charity shop and see lots of what I'd consider 90s brands like Planet, Kaliko, Precis Petite and the quality is great.

JackandVera · 26/11/2022 10:52

Yes I loved Kaliko too - they were still about in 2010 as got a dress there for a graduation.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/11/2022 11:12

I used to buy from Planet - they were on the high street and in House of Fraser. The high street one closed... and the HOF closed down so we lost that one too. I really miss it! Funnily enough I'm out tonight and am wearing a fabulous sparkly number I bought from Planet years ago!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/11/2022 11:20

Got some lovely dresses from them in the early 2000s.

Loads of it on Vinted if you look .

NeedWineNow · 26/11/2022 13:05

Planet - oh there's a name from the past. I used to get my workwear from Planet when I was a young legal secretary back in the 80's/90's. Only ever in the sale though, as it was a bit expensive for me. I used to go to Allders in Croydon for mine. Good for smart occasions as well. I remember buying a white trouser suit and black bustier top for the first time I went into the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot, and also a lovely silk bias cut midi dress for a wedding.

What I liked was that it was good quality and it lasted. I only got rid of my suit and bustier because I put on weight and even then I sold it on to a friend who had it for a long while.

Fond memories. I'd snap up anything from them if I saw it now.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/11/2022 13:11

Yes, it was around in 80s/90s. Really nice quality and a bit more modern than Country Casuals, etc.

FB546 · 26/11/2022 18:39

I loved Planet, I still wear a summer linen dress from there. It must be 18 years old! It was red, lined and with a square neck and such good quality. Another name on the high street that's been lost forever :-(

Kalasbyxor · 26/11/2022 18:43

Just came on to say that I've done exactly that, bought Planet in a charity shop and then found some on eBay, super nice garments which have lasted really well.

BananaGrana · 26/11/2022 18:48

Planet is one of those Clothes Show era brands. I think the name probably got bought out at some point as it ended up in factory outlet type places by which time it had become very mother of the bride.

CharlotteWayland · 26/11/2022 18:48

Another former 80s/90s Planet fan (also liked Precis Petite). My mum was a great one for Planet/Windsmoor/Precis/Country Casuals, and my gran was all Eastex.

HelloChompy · 26/11/2022 19:04

I only bought one outfit from Planet and that was for a friend's wedding in 2010. Very good quality.

CorporateBull · 26/11/2022 19:22

Kaliko was another big favourite.

I think my problem is I’m still looking for these brands and what they sold when I go shopping!

TitInATrance · 26/11/2022 19:25

CellarBellaatemycoal · 25/11/2022 23:23

It all went a bit ‘mother of the bride’ in the end , which I think probs contributed to its demise. But lovely fabrics

Agreed, I bought my MoB dress from Planet in House of Fraser, about 9 years ago. Hardly wear it but it’s good quality.

Ratonastick · 26/11/2022 19:29

I found a photo from a mid 90s wedding recently and I was definitely wearing a Planet suit. It was quite a heavy wool (February wedding), structured jacket and a pencil knee length skirt in bubblegum pink with black buttons and trim. I remember wearing it until it fell to pieces. And I would give a kidney to buy it again!

I loved Kaliko. 😪

pompomsontheedge · 26/11/2022 19:40

I have a nice Planet coat on Vinted that's selling.

Have a search on there as I'm sure there will be plenty to Planet items

BestIsWest · 26/11/2022 19:43

I wore a lot of Planet in the early 90s for work.
I still have a Kaliko dress which I bought for a wedding in 2012. They were around for a bit after that.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 26/11/2022 22:34

I remember a Kaliko dress I had in the 90’s when I was in my mid-twenties and still gorgeous 😉 It was literally stunning, a powder blue silky summer thing with a square neck and fitted waist . Also had a black boucle winter coat with a tie belt and wide lapelled collar - I pulled in that, come to think of it. It was all Kaliko.
