I need to give my skin a glow

Houseplantmad · 20/11/2022 18:08

My menopausal and tired skin is looking flat and a bit meh. I don’t wear much makeup - just mascara and lipstick but I need something natural looking that will give it a glow. My skin is pale and I don’t tan. What would you recommend please? High street budget.

Have you thought about trying Dermatica? The tret really makes a difference to how fresh you look. Perfect for us menopausal women.

verabarbleen · 20/11/2022 18:38

I'm not sure if you'd class it as make up but I wear a tinted BB cream . Garnier do nice ones. It has spf in it too and moisturising so it doesn't settle into fine lines like proper foundation does . It's usually only about £6

MiniTheMinx · 20/11/2022 18:48

Maybelline 4 in 1 glow perfector. I bought this on a whim in superdrug. I don't wear foundation very often now, and this is so light. I'm quite impressed with it.

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 20/11/2022 18:58

What makes me glow is a good cleansing balm Cleanser, Tretinoin from Dermatica, good hydration. I actually just use shea butter but I know that's not for everyone, I also like squalene from the ordinary. Vit c serum in the morning gives a nice glow too.

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 20/11/2022 18:58

Also swear by Erborian CC cream instead of foundation

BobbyBobbyBobby · 20/11/2022 19:17

Two drops of liquid highlighter mixed with foundation/bb cream/cc cream/tinted moisturiser etc gives a lovely glow.

I just got some stuff Instagram sold me. I don't usually shop like that. It's pretty much invisible and not even makeup but I've worn it for 2 days and my daughters noticed and said I was looking pretty 😍 🤗.

Im 55 & I don't really wear makeup these days apart from some anti red stuff on my nose & cheeks.

This just improves on the natural look.

Second the garnier one, it's really lovely and smells nice too. Feels very nourishing.

I've recently purchased an Origins one which is lovely also and adapts to your skin tone so gives slightly more natural coverage. It's a bit pricey though (for me anyway!) so I waited j till there was a gift with purchase.

I also use Skin + me which is a monthly subscription and is one product that replaces the severity used to use each pm.
If anyone fancies trying here's a code -

You'll get your first and fifth doser for £3.50 instead of £20 and I get £10 credit.

OP, do you use a moisturiser? If you don't already, I'd start by trying out one suitable for your skin type, doesn't have to be a high end brand. Just to see if that improves your skin. I use either a nivea or loreal one daily and it helps.

minipie · 20/11/2022 19:48

It’s expensive end of high street but La Roche Posay tinted moisturiser is excellent for this, also the lighter colour works on pale skin. It has a bit of a sheen to it, evens things out but isn’t heavy at all.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 20/11/2022 19:54

The glow ups are : tret (over a long time), vitamin C serum (instant), chemical exfoliation (BHA/AHA; instant and cumulative), tan drops (effects after a couple of hours).

Warning ⚠️- don't start all at once! It'll make your skin upset if you do.

Cinnamonandcoal · 20/11/2022 19:59

I have an illuminating primer from Laura Mercier. This and very light foundation is glowy.

Cotswoldmama · 20/11/2022 20:03

I use 4 things vitamin C serum first thing I use one by Garnier. I then use SPF 50 I also use a Garnier one. (I've notice they now do a vitamin c serum with SPF 25, which I might try when I run out) At night I use skin+me, which contains Tretinoin, niacinamide and azelaic acid.

You can use my code to get a months trial just pay £3.50 p&p

Lastly I've been taking a collagen supplement from Holland and Barratt.

OutDamnedSpot · 20/11/2022 20:03

I use this skin oil from Angela Langford that I absolutely love. It smells beautiful and gives me a lovely glow.

She used to do an offer where you could get sample products for the price of postage. If it’s still on, it’s well worth a try.

itsthefinalcountdown1 · 20/11/2022 20:04

OP, if you're not into your skincare, I wouldn't start off by signing up to Skin&Me, no offense everyone.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 20/11/2022 20:06

@Cotswoldmama I like the Garnier Vit C serum w SPF! Although the bottle is useless. There's still lots in it but I have to fight to get it out. If I believed the pump I would think it was empty

Lookingformymarbles · 20/11/2022 20:08

Assuming you're already moisturising, add in some face tan drops and erborian cc cream. That worked really well for me.

WildFlowerBees · 20/11/2022 20:17

I use a Retinal (Trinnys) and an LED mask alongside a good skincare routine. My skin has never looked better.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 20/11/2022 20:27

Whack some of this bargainous glowy primer under one of the recommended bb creams.
