"French Girl " long boxy bob with curtain bangs

What are your thoughts on this hairstyle?

I'm thinking of going for the chop, all in one colour (getting rid of the balayage).

(Realise SM isn't French!)

Interesting, I am considering similar. At the moment I have no shaping around my face and I wonder if it's doing me any favours.

I suspect this shape would look more frumpy and middle aged on me than her though.

I dunno! Not very helpful, I know...

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 20/11/2022 13:37

I keep seeing really nice bobs all over the place.

i love that style and often tempted in by the lure of a bob but… they don’t seem to work for me any more (I’m 45) and just weirdly, instantly, cause severe dowdiness. This is only relevant to me obvs and you might be not dowdy-prone, or dowdy-concerned, and/or much younger! Looks gorgeous on SM

Delatron · 20/11/2022 15:08

Whenever I get this cut I just end up not liking it and growing it out. It does look lovely on SM but I suspect any haircut would.

Some people look fantastic with bobs though. And it will always grow back if you don’t like it.

OriginalUsername2 · 20/11/2022 15:11

I love it. You’ll have to do the pull-up-and-back thing with the straighteners every morning to make the fringe sit like that.

StillMedusa · 20/11/2022 18:25

I want my hair like that too. I recently had mine cut from nearly waist length to my shoulders, but my side fringe is just too long and limp and my hair tends to turn into a triangle..I want my hair off my face a bit!
Mind you, I'm old and greying so won't look like SM Grin

monsteramunch · 20/11/2022 18:27

Completely depends on your hair type as to whether it's a wearable chic style or a fucking nightmare to style every day!

ShowOfHands · 20/11/2022 18:27

My hairdresser reckons "long bob and swishy long bangs" are what 95% or people ask for ATM so you're on trend apparently.

ShowOfHands · 20/11/2022 18:28

*of

I have this haircut. My hair is quite thick & a little wavy. I probably wash my hair twice a week & for the rest of the time I just run straigtners through & spray with dry shampoo. It's the easiest haircut I've ever had.

I hear you. It's true that styles that look cute and chic on the young(or on me when I was young!) make me look mumsy in a bad way now I'm in my 50s

Nitgel · 20/11/2022 19:15

I have this too, it's easy but sometimes the fringe is irritating

ZenNudist · 20/11/2022 19:17

Its great on SM.

I have a one length Bob that is lower than chin length but swings free of my shoulders which I like. Very easy to style. I have very straight hair but give some movement with an air styler thingy. Have given up on layers or long bangs.

On me the different lengths and effortless just so falling of different sections and artless slight curl wouldn't happen as it does for SM. So I'd just have it hanging around.

littlepeas · 20/11/2022 19:21

Looks great on SM - I remember using a hairdo of hers (also curtain bangs) as inspiration for my wedding hair 16 years ago. That's a bit scary. She's in her early 40's I think now (me too).

Waterfalls39 · 20/11/2022 19:23

My haircut is very similar to that without the fringe ... but you have to have a seriously good hairdresser to get the cut right. Mine didn't - hence I'm trying to grow it long enough to attempt it again Hmm

HypaHypa · 20/11/2022 19:33

Have this hairstyle having grown out a pageboy bob with full fringe. It looks a lot less severe and I look younger. Early 40s, heart to oval shaped face. I don't find I have to straighten all the time, but my hair is quite fine.

Go for it, OP.

happyhyena · 20/11/2022 19:34

How does she stop it flicking outwards into a Farrah Fawcett Majors style when the hair hit the shoulders. This ALWAYS happens to me and I really don't like the flicked out look!

Cliffordthebigreddog · 20/11/2022 19:43

Love this style - go for it! I might go for it too

Gridhopper · 20/11/2022 20:23

@pocketvenuss i even made a note on my phone to remind myself that my crises of confidence/being down on my looks are never, ever solved (and only made worse) by getting a bob these days.

But clearly these are my issues. Hope you go for something new and exciting OP!

crackerscandycanes · 20/11/2022 21:19

Looks great on SM but I fear on me would turn out more Pauline Fowler.

PottyDottyDotPot · 20/11/2022 21:33

It’s lovely and would look good with hair up too.

Am older! Yes was wondering about it just looking a bit middle aged!
I have good cheekbones though, so hoping this may be helpful.
Definitely not skinny however 🤣

I can imagine the fringe being annoying!

I'm just fed up of my long, not any style in particular, hair.

I have wave hair which can be straightened or curled.
