What are your thoughts on this hairstyle?

I'm thinking of going for the chop, all in one colour (getting rid of the balayage).

(Realise SM isn't French!)

Looks great on SM, partly because of the root lift- I think that’s the difference between this cut looking chic and dowdy. So probably needs a bit of styling every day.

I have it but have to loosely curl my hair (front third?) to make it look really nice.

I agree that it needs styling and good hair ie not frizzy or have good products to control. This style really shows off cheekbones. Very cute and easy to grow out but don't think it's super easy maintenance unless you have thick straight healthy hair because for most people including myself this will need daily styling. Fringe will go weird and greasy easily overnight and the ends can end up triangle head if not cut well and frizz controlled.
