Good quality (thick/heavyweight) tailored trousers - none to be found!

Need to replace an old work pair that have worn out. Can anyone recommend where to find thick well-constructed ladies trousers? Ideally looking for wide leg or boot cut. I've tried every high street shop I can get to and can't find a single pair that aren't paper thin or poorly cut/constructed.

This morning I've genuinely considered spending over £200 on a pair from The Fold (out of desperation - I've never before imagined spending so much on one item of clothing!). I've even thought about sourcing some quality fabric and finding a local seamstress, but after a quick recce they generally seem to be booked up well into the new year.

Any other recommendations that are more reasonably priced? I would be happy to pay up to £100 if the quality reflects the price point, so don't feel like I'm being unrealistic?

I love trousers from Sezane. The quality is amazing.

I've got a pair of excellent tailored wide legged trousers from M&S. Really good weighted fabric, lined at the front, proper waistband, and belt loops.

Following this as in the same position. Have tried many and sent them back as too long or not the right shape. Slender size 10 and they are either for waifs or curvy ladies. Nothing in between.

I had some nice wide leg wool trousers from Boden. I’m not sure if they still make them, but the quality was lovely.

Whitney168 · 11/11/2022 17:07

I don't know if being a bit stretchy rules them out, but Boden's Hampshire trousers are a fabulous weight, smart and comfortable.

Lallybroch · 11/11/2022 17:07

clodaghrogers do you have a link to the M&S trousers please?

WowStarsWow · 11/11/2022 17:12

I don’t think £100 is anywhere near enough for what you’re describing. Maybe second hand.

WowStarsWow · 11/11/2022 17:15

Sorry, that was unhelpful. Sezane are a good shout, their trousers are £140 or so, but you have to go to the shop or else pay customs charges on top. If anyone does actually know of excellent quality trousers for £100, I’d love to know. I got a pair from Reiss recently for £150, which are a lovely fit but the material is only a wool blend and they aren’t lined or particularly heavy.

woodhill · 11/11/2022 17:18

Yes very limited choice this year

No customs charges with Sezane any more! Their returns are also efficient.

House of Bruar ladies classic flannel trousers.

greenacrylicpaint · 11/11/2022 17:24

I gave up and bought black jeans.
bonus: pockets!

OwBist · 11/11/2022 17:35

Are Winser any good these days? It's been a while since I got anything from them, but the quality used to be good.

sleepwhenidie · 11/11/2022 17:36

Me&Em tailored wide leg trousers are fabulous but not much lower price point than the Fold though. Joseph in the sale is a good option.

woodhill · 11/11/2022 17:40

The trousers are all so expensive this year and when you read reviews they are not that great

My Laura Ashley tweed look lined trousers have gone into a hole on the inner leg but I may try and repair them

woodhill · 11/11/2022 17:43

They look nice but only one length

GAH3 · 11/11/2022 17:46

M&S black crepe trousers

Finally found the link! I'm 5'4" and the short was perfect length for me.

kuime · 12/11/2022 13:29

Arket and Cos both have good quality wool or wool-blend wide-leg trousers for around £100.

LearnerCook · 12/11/2022 14:23

I got these from Zalando.co.uk
They're made from a thick, stretchy fabric that pings right back into shape. I think they do the same trousers I different styles and the quality is excellent.

I'm also finish it difficult to find heavier weight tailored black trousers, used to be able to find the right sort of thing in Jigsaw & Hobbs but the trousers they have in at the moment are much lighter weight.
