Good quality (thick/heavyweight) tailored trousers - none to be found!

Need to replace an old work pair that have worn out. Can anyone recommend where to find thick well-constructed ladies trousers? Ideally looking for wide leg or boot cut. I've tried every high street shop I can get to and can't find a single pair that aren't paper thin or poorly cut/constructed.

This morning I've genuinely considered spending over £200 on a pair from The Fold (out of desperation - I've never before imagined spending so much on one item of clothing!). I've even thought about sourcing some quality fabric and finding a local seamstress, but after a quick recce they generally seem to be booked up well into the new year.

Any other recommendations that are more reasonably priced? I would be happy to pay up to £100 if the quality reflects the price point, so don't feel like I'm being unrealistic?

I usually find Esprit have a mix of good quality things

I'm also finish it difficult to find heavier weight tailored black trousers, used to be able to find the right sort of thing in Jigsaw & Hobbs but the trousers they have in at the moment are much lighter weight.

Agree! I thought if I looked at these types of brands (i.e. generally considered a step up from the H&M/M&S etc level of high street) there would be a marked increase in fabric quality. But even these have been such thin fabric!

I wonder if I would be better looking for trousers in a textured fabric - that might at least have an illusion of being thicker.

Grateful for all the suggestions - I'm going to look at all the mentioned brands over the next few days and order a few pairs to try.

A lot of the makes are only one length and because they are so expensive in the first place, I'm reluctant to buy them then have to shorten them

Sorry, that was unhelpful. Sezane are a good shout, their trousers are £140 or so, but you have to go to the shop or else pay customs charges on top. If anyone does actually know of excellent quality trousers for £100, I’d love to know. I got a pair from Reiss recently for £150, which are a lovely fit but the material is only a wool blend and they aren’t lined or particularly heavy.

Thank you. When I say heavyweight I'm not meaning fully-lined or 100% wool (in fact machine washable is a must). Just a regular fabric (I think most lower priced trousers would be some kind of polyester mix?) that isn't paper thin! It definitely exists as the old pair I'm replacing fit the bill - bought in Wallis circa 12 years a ago they are a lovely thick fabric that drapes nicely.

Those are lovely

Definitely look at Cos. They always do the coat-hanger model look on their website photos but generally their high waisted trousers are fantastic if you have a largish hip to waist ratio. They sometimes link instagram photos from a wider range of body types which is helpful. The cut really works and they are super comfortable. I have linen and silk trousers from their for summer and am looking to add a wool pair for winter.
For a step down in terms of smartness but superwarm try the heat tech range from uniqlo. Polyester fleece lined. Not smart enough for a law firm but great for teaching and probably passable in most office environments especially if you wear a blouse over the elastic waist at the back rather than fully tucked in.
Uniqlo also had amazing wool tweed high waisted midi-skirts last year that look quite smart with a thin merino jumper tucked in and heeled boots.

Current Wool+Wide legged selection from COS. All around that 100quid price point or a little under.

I haven’t paid customs charges on sesane online purchases.

Yes saw a lovely midi skirt on Uniqlo a few days ago but their stock availability is always so patchy! Have been waiting to get some of the bra tops for ages but they are never in stock.

For trousers I'm looking for smart (and compatible with a tucked in shirt) so will look at Cos.

Actually this style looks like it would work with a tucked in shirt too. I have a different model that are fleeced lined and ridiculously warm but slightly less smart because you can see the elastickness of the waistband at the back.

I'd usually go to Hobbs for wide leg wool trousers (under £100 in the sale usually) but there is nothing suitable on the website at the moment :/
