Where to buy smart clothes for 6th Form girl

Walkingtheplank · 05/11/2022 21:47

Daughter needs clothes for 6th Form Taster Day. Realised she needs smart/business attire.
We have a spare hour or two tomorrow but not sure where to go.

She wants a skirt and jacket/blazer. I'm not sure how easy it is to get a smart jacket these days.

Any tips on where to get relatively inexpensive workwear?

Depends on her size and your budget.

Matalan will have stuff you can mix and match.

Next.

Even Asda and Tesco do black trousers that are cheap.

fizzyfood · 05/11/2022 22:04

New look.

Changerofthename1 · 05/11/2022 22:20

Honestly I think I took about 20 g worth of smart business attire to charity shops over the past six months because nobody is wearing them in the workplace there should be some real bargains to be had.

Svalberg · 05/11/2022 22:41

Uniqlo is where we got that sort of thing

gogohmm · 05/11/2022 22:42

H&M have entry level jackets and skirts/trousers. All machine washable

Curta · 05/11/2022 22:45

Most sixth formers do not wear business attire.

But the OP's daughter needs to.

H&M is worth a look.

Try again!
'Business attire' is literally exactly what dd's dress code is for sixth form.
Got suits from H&M, lots of choice.

H&M generally does jackets/skirts in varying colours/patterns for a good price/quality!

Akite · 05/11/2022 22:50

My DD has business wear for sixth form, took a long time to find anything suitable, she's really tiny and very picky. We got trousers from Zara, shirts from primark and next and jackets from Zara (which she actually very rarely wears).

Walkingtheplank · 06/11/2022 00:08

Thanks for responses. You've mentioned places I would not have thought of.

Unfortunately there is a requirement for her to wear somewhat passé business attire.

Meanwhile DS's school expects them to wear business suits - so out of date!

Uniqlo

KangarooKenny · 06/11/2022 07:08

They often have nice little skirts in Primark, and blazers in New Look.

boboshmobo · 06/11/2022 07:28

Next go down to a 6 and petite ..

I work there and we sell a lot for this reason . They are washable and robust ✅

Exactly,no one is wearing smart business wear now, what a ridiculous requirement of 6th form. Sorry OP,not helpful!

LimeCheesecake · 06/11/2022 09:24

Most 6th forms in school settings in our area require business attire - but then all the schools round here require a blazer so it’s the “own clothes” version of the y7-11 dress code.

new look have some nice cheaper blazers.

bigbadbarry · 06/11/2022 09:26

I noticed lots of blazers in New Look yesterday when I was shopping with my daughter for her sixth form taster days this week! Wonder if we are in the same place

I suspect there are quite a few of these this week, especially as some schools had 6th Form entrance exams this weekend.

I often wonder how close other posters are.

I'd go with H&M

Probably still young enough but they definitely do blazers and the like

user1497787065 · 06/11/2022 09:41

My DC had business attire as sixth form uniform. Zara and Mango are both good for this. I found buying one jacket and two pairs
Of trousers or two skirts
Worked well.

Montague22 · 06/11/2022 09:45

I’d look in Mango

Scrambledeggsontoasted · 06/11/2022 09:48

If I'm going into the office I'd wear smart trousers, the sort of jumper or blouse I could also wear with jeans and my wrap wool coat.

There's loads of smart coats right now and I spotted some in Primark. She might get more wear out of that than a blazer.

Changerofthename1 · 06/11/2022 09:51

Most schools aren’t fit for purpose in terms of preparing children for reality of the workplace. It blows my mind that kids can be put in detention for the wrong coloured trainers yet on the rare days when you actually go in the office. when you get into work I’m sat there with the CEO wearing Birkenstocks in whatever colour he likes, often with socks in winter.
