Which makeup/beauty products are worth the splurge?

I have birthday, Christmas and wedding coming up and want to treat myself/ask for some new makeup. I generally wear drugstore brands, am fairly ok with makeup application, but what items would you say are worth the splurge?

My skin is acne-prone so I can’t usually do heavy foundation but love the dewy, bronzed look. Would love anything that truly covers my hormonal spots and lasts all day! I often find my makeup is nonexistent my lunchtime even if I use a setting spray.

You need urban decay "all nighter" setting spray.

hugefanofcheese · 19/10/2022 22:53

Bobbi brown foundation is the best IMO. You might want to try different ones but the serum one is dewy and has good coverage

mobear · 19/10/2022 22:55

NARS bronzer, concealer and foundation or tinted moisturiser.

I'm a big fan of Trinny ...the BFF cream is amazing and makes my skin look fantastic. I like her Bounce moisturiser as well

Deathraystare · 20/10/2022 12:12

Probably not for you, but I am well impressed with Soap and Glory's moisturiser and night cream. I have combo skin and the cheek area is very very thirsty.

Also Bobbie Brown's skin cream (the one with the soft lemon smell) though it is a bit spendy.

Deathraystare · 20/10/2022 12:15

I am also in my 60's!

Charlotte Tilbury bronzer - it's huge and lasts ages, very natural.

TattiePants · 20/10/2022 16:30

Erborian cc or bb cream
Nars creamy concealer
Lisa Eldridge lipstick
Chantecaille gel blusher

VinoDino · 20/10/2022 16:33

I used to be a salesperson's dream but decided that drug store is usually just fine, but I've heard from too many different sources that Trinny's stuff is supposed to be really good so I'm considering splashing out on that.

lentilly · 20/10/2022 17:30

Nars foundations are good
Urban decay setting spray
Charlotte Tilbury lipstick- not necessarily the pillow talk one.
Charlotte tilbury Eyeshadow is good for beginners but spendy - there's usually some on ebay though.

My HG are:

Olaplex
Hourglass highlighter
Bobbi brown serum foundation
Zo obagi face wash
Sonicare toothbrush
Paula's choice BHA

TheDarrellRivers · 20/10/2022 20:13

LiLash eyelash serum.

I have naturally sort, thin, straight lashes, but I been using this for approximately 6 years and wouldn’t want to stop as it’s given me long, thicker lashes.

worth the splurge for me

norwichmummy123 · 20/10/2022 20:16

Benefit Hoola bronzer

moonfacebaby · 20/10/2022 20:31

Trinny’s BFF stuff was awful for me and my friend said the same too - barely any coverage at all. I’m not one for heavy coverage with foundations but I like a concealer that covers my dark circles. If you do have those, I’d avoid BFF

Jellywobblescobbles · 20/10/2022 20:37

Estee Lauder DoubleWear foundation
MAC stack mascara
Charlotte Tilbury PillowTalk lip liner
Too faced eyeshadow palettes in Sunset Stripped and Natural Nudes - best eyeshadow palettes

Lydia777 · 20/10/2022 20:45

IT Cosmetics CC cream - buildable coverage and perfect for dewy skin with decent coverage - I always get compliments when I wear it. For me, it goes on best with fingers. I always use a primer first
Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara - I have converted many people.
Mac Matte lipsticks and liners- I have tried so many and I think these are the best out there
Glossier cream blush or Bobbi brown cream blush
Urban Decay NKD pallettes
Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray.

Oh and skincare is everything if you want your makeup to look good.

Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base is my absolute favourite luxury product and makes me feel great.

I like to buy good lipsticks. Cheap ones never seem to have quite the right colour and staying power. Most of mine are Clarins, Bobbi Brown or Mac.

Agreee with good foundation. I like NARS and Bobbi Brown.

MistyRock · 21/10/2022 10:22

Dior eyeshadow quints. The new formulated ones. They are beautiful. Nude Dress or Soft Cashmere are lovely day to day shades. I know these are drugstore but the L'Oréal lipsticks in the gold bullet are amazing. Soft, creamy and smell great. Lancome tient idole foundation is great. Leaves a soft satin finish. Not too matte and not dewy either.

CaveMum · 02/01/2023 16:42

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream - I got a sample size in a gift box and couldn’t believe the difference it made to my skin! I hunted high and low to find the best possible price (RRP £89). It finally came good on Black Friday when I managed to get it for £48!

Thankfully it’s one of those products where a little goes a long way so I’m hoping it will last till my birthday in May!

TheOGCCL · 02/01/2023 21:47
