Footwear for going out - not heels

I'm done with heels, haven't really worn them for years, i have a bad back & wobbly ankles. I do have one pair of kitten heel sock boots that I love but I have them for years & am a bit bored with them & need some alternatives.
I don't have a wild social life just the occasional date night with DH or casual dinner with friends. Usually I'd wear a pair of jeans, pleather skinny trousers or a satin skirt.
Any thoughts?

I have 'posh' Paul Smith trainers, or flat pointed sling backs.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/10/2022 16:34

Those fold up pumps AND the mega expensive moccasin things are far, far from my cup of tea. Sorry.

I’m 53 and wear suede ankle boots with about an inch and a half heel with my leather leggings, midi dresses for evenings out.

RTHJ14 · 08/10/2022 19:20

I’m currently having this dilemma! Realised last weekend I can no longer walk in heels but wear trainers/flat boots every day now. Watching with interest after real life shopping today and seeing absolutely nothing I liked! Xx

I had a pair like this in navy swede that I got from the charity shop and they went with every outfit ever. The zip broke when I was on my hen do 😫 Still gutted.

I normally wear loafers for work and wanted a pair of shoes that were going it shoes and found some chunky flat form loafers in patent black -and ensured that I kept them for going and this has seemed to have been successful.

I would have a look at sezane. They have lovely boots and flats in unusual colours which I think are nice for going out and a bit different to the usual black/brown boots or trainers.

I have a pair like that from Boden (bought at least 5 years ago). I adore them still.

verytired42 · 08/10/2022 20:53

Seems like two types of flat shoes are ‘in’ for smart occasions:
1.) metallic loafers
2.) flat black pointed shoes with embellishments
see Me&Em or Boden for examples.

I know what you mean. Occasionally you want to dress up a bit more, trainers or other flat shoes can be a bit samey if you wear them all the time.

I would maybe look for some metallic flats, maybe pointed, could have a small heel. Metallic tends to add a going out vibe. I have some gold shoes from La Redoute which can be added to most outfits to step things up a bit.

Following for specific (comfy) recommendations of pointy metallic flats.

FletchingStraight · 09/10/2022 09:39

Pointed flats sound like a good alternative. I do need something that either comes up High on the foot or has a strap. I've wide feet so need to size up which then means shoes that aren't 'fixed' on I just walk out of.

I need to look up images of an actual outfit with chunky loafers I like the look of them but can't visualise with an outfit. Off to search

I live in trainers, occasionally wear brogues if I'm going out. I've seen lovely completely flat, pointy shoes though, which are very elegant and look like the flat version of stilettos.

😁 I was just going to share that pic!

FletchingStraight · 09/10/2022 09:57

Oh those strappy ones look good @Ridelikethewindypops they'd actually stay on my feet!

Great minds @Charley50 😄
I love dune shoes, smart, sparkly and comfy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2022 14:06

Those Dune ones are perfect. Mine are all out identical but from Clarks - one pair in black leather and one in leopard print suede - love them.

dryroastcumin · 11/10/2022 14:11

What kneehigh/tights would go with those pointy flats?

dryroastcumin · 12/10/2022 16:52

I’m bumping this thread hoping for recommendations for sheer tights or knee highs to wear with the pumps and pointy flats people have suggested.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2022 18:43

I tend to wear my pointy flats with those little lacy footsie things you can get in M&S and Next. No good for when it's properly cold though.

Walford and M&S both sell knee high things, and M&S have sheer black tights but they're a bit too shiny.

Coffeepot72 · 12/10/2022 18:58

The best advice I ever got about ‘evening flat shoes’ is: they have to look intentional. So they need to look fab and work with your outfit, rather than ‘I had to wear flats because of a bunion/long walk home/ I’m very tall’ etc etc

Dead easy in the summer, but in autumn/winter anything pointy is your friend

ToastAndBeans · 12/10/2022 19:06

I bought Dune black suede pointy flats with a sparkly buckle thing at the front. Look fine for a (v rare) night out / occasion.

ToastAndBeans · 12/10/2022 19:08

These ones!
