Yes, then in the ‘any lawful impediment/ speak now or forever hold your peace’ bit, the wearer of the dress says something like, “you promised that you’d make an honest woman of me, and don’t forget that I own 20% of Denver Carrington!”.

Talk your friend out of it, OP!

Lol

At least the wedding would stand out in everyone's minds years later.

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 05/10/2022 18:29

Lovely dress but not as a wedding guest

No,no drama. She just thinks because it's more casual than the weddings we have attended in the past that it's not a big deal.

Tell her to buy the dress in green or blue and to stop being so silly.

surreygirl1987 · 05/10/2022 18:30

Of course not! Your friend is being ridiculous.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 05/10/2022 18:31

I think the fact it’s a casual wedding and the couple are older means it’s likely that dress is even more like the bride’s than if it was a trad Catholic affair!!

MinglingFlamingo · 05/10/2022 18:31

I've been to weddings wear it was so casual guests wore jeans. But no one would have worn that dress.

It's a 100% no from me

LindyLou2020 · 05/10/2022 18:37

@Belladonnamama
I think it's a lovely dress for a wedding guest...........in a MUCH different colour!
I'm also concerned that your post may be "outing" - what if your friend who is the guest is also on MN?

orangeisthenewpuce · 05/10/2022 18:38

Good god woman! No!

Totally understand. My MIL wore ivory after I told her my dress was ivory.

Your friend is going to be THAT guest…is she usually so ignorant?

My mil wore a cream suit to my wedding.
She looked lovely.
Never occurred to me to be offended.

mynameischloe · 05/10/2022 18:43

My batshit family member wore a white dress to my wedding. I wasn't surprised, she's a real life Janine Butcher.

2bazookas · 05/10/2022 18:48

No. Cringe!

Humobean · 05/10/2022 18:50

My mother wore a white dress to my (Irish) wedding - she's narcissistic and can't cope if she's not getting her way or isn't the centre of attention. There was nothing I could do - it was even the same material as mine. I'd didn't cause a huge fuss over it but 20 years on I'm not in contact with her over other things.

Bottomofthepileasusual · 05/10/2022 18:59

It's a bit Samantha Jones too

SenecaFallsRedux · 05/10/2022 18:59

I agree with other posters; it's not just that it's white. It looks like a wedding dress. So no way would I wear it.

That is awful. Can't understand why people do things like that.

Belladonna thanks, that means so much. I was so excited to see what she'd bought and the first words out of her mouth to me before showing the dress were 'Well I said in the shop that there'll be war when I get home'. Apparently the dress with jacket came in other colours but she didn't like them so just bought what she wanted. I did say to her quietly that normally people don't wear white or off white because the bride does but there was no point pressing the point.

People with narcissistic tendencies are incredibly fragile underneath it all - that's not an excuse but rather an observation. I'm not in contact with her.

2bazookas · 05/10/2022 19:12

Bitch SIL came to our wedding dressed as a bride; white lace dress with white flowers in her hair. On the morning of the wedding, FIL rang me in some distress to pre-warn me . He had begged her to wear something else, she refused. He hoped it wouldn't spoil my day. I replied "Don't worry, I'm wearing a shocking pink mini dress". He thought I was joking. I wasn't.

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 05/10/2022 19:14

Definitely not in white.
I do have that dress in yellow, I love it and it suits my skin tone. I'll be challenging my inner Fallon next time I wear it now!

Bimblybomeyelash · 05/10/2022 19:15

The fact that it is a casual wedding means that is is even less appropriate. She could end up looking more bride like than the actual bride!!

Mammyloveswine · 05/10/2022 19:18

Absolutely not and I would not think very highly of anyone wearing this to a wedding as a guest!

M0rT · 05/10/2022 20:00

Just because it's not in a Church doesn't mean the bride won't be in white/ivory wedding dress.
I'm Irish and every hotel wedding I've been to the bride has worn a white dress, some weddingy some more evening gown. But all white.
Tell your friend to cop on.
