Wedding dress guest - RIXO - another one!

👋 hi hi
I'm late 40s, tall (just under (5 11), slim 10-12. Invited to a city wedding in October, so excited!

But my dresses for weddings are a bit summery. (Ages since I've been to a wedding!) I just do not know where to start. I will head into JL on the weekend for a bit of "trying on" and inspiration.

I love this - rixo.co.uk/collections/dresses/products/corrine-juniper-star-sequin

But someone told me it's a bit Bollywood?? I have gold shoes and accessories to pull it off. What do you think?

Would love to get my dress juices flowing, any ideas anyone - other dresses, brands to try?!

I think it's beautiful 😍

But I am not a style guru.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2022 12:29

Honestly I'd think they're being a bit racist narrow minded- "Indian woman wearing pretty dress, must be a dress for just Indian women". If you aren't going to clash with the bridesmaids in terms of colour, it's beautiful

BlackSwan · 30/09/2022 12:31

It's a beautiful dress - go for it.

BasiliskStare · 30/09/2022 12:31

I like it - would not suit me but I can see the appeal . One thing is I think the model could have left off the necklace - looks a bit much with the earrings and the sparkly middle but.

AppleKatie · 30/09/2022 12:32

It’s beautiful and appropriate for the occasion, if you have the figure for it wear it.

your ‘Bollywood’ friend is a racist.

sleepwhenidie · 30/09/2022 12:32

Rixo dresses are fabulous. All the ones I like are backless though so totally impractical for me! Don’t get the Bollywood comparison!

Along similar lines, Aspiga and (less ££) Onjenu. I have this onjenu dress in gold and it is gorgeous and incredibly flattering. Some lovely velvet ones for autumn/winter. They do great jumpsuits too. Onjenu

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/09/2022 12:32

I think it's a bit bridesmaid-y. It's a combination of the bow at the back and the pastel floaty material.

Now that I'm looking on my usual places online I saw this - its not wedding-y thought is it? Or is it?? I love it! But often drawn to stuff that doesn't actually suit me!

I think it’s a bit ‘meh’ for the price, I had similar from Monsoon c2010. I think you can find something more stunning for a city wedding, maybe from Ro & Zo?

sleepwhenidie · 30/09/2022 12:46

very different from the Rixo and quite summery? What do you have already that you feel fantastic in? Would give us a better idea of your style..

HangryFeminist · 30/09/2022 12:48

I love it. Have you also considered a jumpsuit? Being tall and slim it would look ace on you.

Nancy Mac have some amazing ones.

BasiliskStare · 30/09/2022 12:49

@Twooforjoy I much prefer your original choice to your second one. I Think a velvet Onjenu maxi dress - not in shimmer white - could look lovely

It is but as long as its a different colour / style it'll be fine.

Yea and it's a bit twee?
Maybe it's my age - but I feel like breaking off from my usual habits. To be honest I'm struggling to describe my style at the mo!

Generally I love short skirts, boots (just bought off-white ankle boots from LKBennett) and covered up on top, that sort of look. I love Anthropologie... but shopping a lot les there lately, it's not clicking after a good 10 year obsession.

I have never liked strappy tops/dresses. I feel a bit rake-ish.

I'm slim but its smoke and mirrors slim. Two babies has given me the roundy tummy etc - and my age of course!

Oh god the dreaded monsoon - you've ruined it for me now. I cannot stand that shop. And now you've said it, it is monsoon-y!

Onjenu? Like some of their dresses, but WTF is with the name? Misspellings are never a good idea.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 30/09/2022 13:02

I think LKBennet do a rental service as well. Not sure if that might be an option.

sleepwhenidie · 30/09/2022 13:59

Also, Selfridges rent dresses now. They have some Rixo

sleepwhenidie · 30/09/2022 14:01

I wore the gold Onjenu dress to a wedding on the weekend. They have a jumpsuit on the website but not the dress anymore
