Have I missed the boat on these camera bags with flat straps?

Upcoming birthday, in the market for a new everyday handbag. Up to £100, could stretch to a bit more if I really love it! Currently have a slouchy crossbody saddle bag type thing. I quite like the look of these more structured camera bag type things, with the colourful flat straps, but wondering if they are dated now?

I don't know if they're dated but they're cute!

TizerorFizz · 24/08/2022 21:29

Plenty are around. Don’t buy one if you don’t like the design. Buy what you really like. Not what others think you should like.

Mrcpy · 24/08/2022 21:30

I don’t think something like that can be dated. I’m still enjoying my Coach one - was a little over £100 in the sale but incredible quality.

ToooOldForThis · 24/08/2022 21:32

@TizerorFizz I know, i do like them, but not sure if they're a bit novelty value?
My current one is nice soft brown leather, so probably safer but a bit more classic?

Personally I’m not a fan. I like the new bag collection at Massimo Dutti. Lots of really nice everyday bags. The Loewe Puzzle bag is the ultimate camera bag for me snd they are still sought after. Buy a classic and you won’t go wrong.

ThisWomamsWork · 25/08/2022 01:35

Honest opinion?

Not a fan. It's the kind of thing that looks OK. Which is why it's used by loads of people. It's not going to frighten the horses, equally no-one's going to think 'fuck me, that looks amazing'.

I file it under, midi dresses with trainers, denim jackets and biker jackets.

It's OK.

Never understood the Puzzle love either. I also file them under OK.

Mind you, I'm an absolute tosser, so feel free to ignore me!

LunaTheCat · 25/08/2022 07:08

Just looked up Loewe puzzle bags - gorgeous! But the cost!!

This. I bought one because I liked it, not because it was popular and I'll probably be still using it in 10/20 years time because it suits my needs and is good quality real leather, so isn't going to wear out or break.

BananasAreEvil · 25/08/2022 07:50

I think it is a classic fairly practical non descript bag, I have 2 and use them a lot.

newbiename · 25/08/2022 07:54

I've got a few. I like them because they're practical for every day use.
Apatchy have nice ones around your budget.

AceSpades54321 · 25/08/2022 08:01

Can someone post a link to one? I have no idea what they look like! Is this for a phone camera?

What do you think does look 'amazing'?

It is common on these threads for people to post generic negative remarks about things the OP suggests but never actually say what they would wear.

It is a handbag. In my opinion no handbag has ever looked amazing.

I think this type of thing apatchy.co.uk/products/bottega-green-leather-cross-body-bag-with-rainbow-strap?variant=41088929267900?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&msclkid=938f4ac104ac1ba9186a29c6246c7f16

Meg and Bee do some lovely ones. I bought my first one 2 years ago love it.

Rina66 · 25/08/2022 08:42

I was given the Marc Jacobs camera bag for my birthday, I couldn't get my purse in and the zip was so sharp it kept grazing my fingers - love the look of it though, but just highly impractical for me and what I want to carry in it. The best size I find, and keep coming back to, is the Gucci disco (loads of good similar styles out there) or the LV Pochette Metis, both easily fit a purse and phone comfortably plus other bits. Both of these bags are about 25cm by 20cm. I do love the sporty look of the camera bags though.

ToooOldForThis · 25/08/2022 10:01

@carefullycourageous that link is exactly it! I really like them but am seeing them everywhere and agree with a pp that it's very much the dress and white trainers and denim jacket uniform staple (I'm guilty of that too mind you!)
They are maybe also a bit summery? Will look at the other suggestions thank you!

I think you are too bothered about what other people think. There is nothing wrong with wearing what is popular, there is nothing wrong with wearing what is unpopular. What matters is what you like.

Just think what could be acheived if women just bought what they liked and used all the rest of the time to do something else!

LadyDanburysHat · 25/08/2022 10:08

I bought one recently .Got mine from Pom Pom London as they were one of the few that were reasonably priced but also actual leather.

I don't always wear it cross body either. I shorten the strap right down and tuck it under my arm. I have 3 straps for mine for different occasions.

PorkPieForStarters · 25/08/2022 10:36

I like the shape of the bag and don't think it'll date for a while, but I'm not a fan of the wide straps - I think those will date pretty quickly. I personally prefer those camera-style bags with a simple, thin, adjustable crossbody leather strap to match the bag, as it's a more classic shape.

The good thing is you could get a range of straps and switch them depending on your outfit/occasion.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 25/08/2022 10:40

Ooo I think the linked bag is quite cute. I definitely could use a bag this style in a nice soft brown leather.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 25/08/2022 11:43

I have this one by Coach and love it. Its very good quality. But I don't use it as my day to day bag; it's quite small.

Have I missed the boat on these camera bags with flat straps?
Deux · 25/08/2022 11:48

I’ve got one though I bought it on holiday. It’s tan leather and has a wide embroidered strap. I find the wide strap really comfortable. I see it more as a summer/autumn bag

Rina66 · 25/08/2022 12:07

I've got this leather version in silver for holidays at £65

themeekboutique.co.uk/collections/accessories/products/leather-crossbody-bag-in-black

But I've also got non leather versions in all sorts of colours for £18 - I wouldn't necessarily buy a leather brightly coloured bag, but I don't mind a good PU for £18!

I adore my lulu Guinness camera bag, I've used it so much.

LuubyLuu · 25/08/2022 12:19

I was given one for Christmas a couple of years ago, didn't think I'd use it as it wasn't my shape or style.
I love it, have since bought two more, and have a few different straps to match to different outfits. Love the wide straps, comfy to wear, great for going out (you can drink and dance and not have to put your bag down), leaves your hands completely free.
