If you're interested in fashion and clothes and are in your 40s where do you shop and what blogs/Instagrammers do you follow?

Anyone??

Who What Wear is pretty good - you can sign up for their emails. They are a bit obsessed with capsule wardrobes (loads of people seem to be!) but they are quite good at the all ages all sizes thing.

Mookie81 · 17/08/2022 09:22

I read Midlife Chic, although some on here despise it!. 😄

diamondpony80 · 17/08/2022 09:35

Following as also in need of help!

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 17/08/2022 09:39

In my fifties and I will shop anywhere / everywhere. I refuse to be defined by age! My favourite shop though is Zara.

kistanbul · 17/08/2022 09:52

try street style Instagram accounts. You get a better a range of styles and body types

watchingnewyork or Londonersinlondon show a wide range of ages and body types

LookdeepintotheParka · 17/08/2022 10:30

I follow 40plusnotgivingupyet, Emma Hill, Clare Lopez and midlifechic. I like the try on's and useful to see what goes together and how to create a cost effective capsule wardrobe. I've found it's really helpful to see how to dress differently when your body is changing in your 40s.

Given up on a few bloggers e.g doesmybumlook40 as all their ad stuff is very cringe!!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/08/2022 10:56

I shop at Cos, Arket, Monki, &OS, Levi’s, odd bits from Zara and H&M. I buy a lot on Depop. Used to like Whistles but less so the last few years.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/08/2022 10:57

Oh, I also read Who, What, Wear every day but do find their twin obsessions with looking “expensive” and “French” very annoying!

couchtomato · 17/08/2022 11:00

I would like some inspiration too,
who what wear is just sponsored content imo. I like Emma Hill but I'd like someone with a bit more "fashion" if that makes sense.

MollyVolley · 17/08/2022 11:01

I like Arket, Cos and french brands Sessun, Sezane, Ba&sh which are expected but have good sales

RiverSkater · 17/08/2022 11:05

Bum40 used to be popular. I also like Wears My Money though she's a bit obsessed with tent dresses! Always finds the nicest trainers though and has money off codes.

Crayfishforyou · 17/08/2022 14:03

42 here and I shop at:
ASOS
zara
H&M
cider
Monki
vinted, I like wearing a lot of vintage
If I had the money I’d add Wolf and Badger to that list too.

LeeMiller · 17/08/2022 22:01

Whowhatwear is good for staying vaguely in touch with fashion.

On instagram I follow a people of a mix of ages: leia sfez, Elisabeth Bento, Caroline de Maigret, Marissa Cox, Monika Dale, Jeanne Damas, Lena Farl, Valerie Tribes, Sabina Socol, Freddie Harrel.

Shopping: Sezane, Rouje, &Other Stories, Ba&sh, Réalisation Par, Rixo but also H&M,Zara. I mostly buy from vinted as that way I can afford the wardrobe I want.

lindyloo57 · 17/08/2022 22:26

I also stopped following mybumlook40 and now midlifechic as all she seem to promote is boden who's owner is a fan of fox hunting

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/08/2022 23:26

Midlife Chic’s style (and lifestyle!) is nothing like mine, but I do really enjoy her writing. It’s nice to read long form content which is so rare now. I can’t bear DMBL40. Wears My Money probably has a style most similar to mine, and I enjoy her weekly blogs - but some of her paid partnerships are very dubious, plus constantly affiliate linking things on Amazon gets my goat.

i like Alex Stedman on instagram, and love Esther Corey’s blog, On The Spike, but it’s not very fashion-y.

IrenesMuffins · 18/08/2022 01:35

I'm early 40s, have always love fashion and, IMO, am the most stylish I've ever been. Way more than I was in my 20s! I shop all over but have a real soft spot for Zara, H&M and Mango and, more recently, Whistles, Me+Em and &OtherStories. In terms of influencers, I like Emma Hill and Clare Lopez, among various others, all in their early to mid-30s, though their age is irrelevant. In fact, if I see a blogger/influencer's 'USP' is that they are 'in their 40s/50s', I'm likely to avoid them. With the exception of Does My Bum Look 40, as Kat Farmer still posts decent content.

SommerTen · 18/08/2022 09:02

I'm 46 next week & like to follow fashion so I look in print plus online magazines for ideas such as Grazia, Heat, Hello! Fashion etc.
I also look at what other women are wearing on the street.

I don't have a huge budget so I tend to buy in shops / online stores where I can use my Blue Light Card for discount or I buy sale items.
The places I've bought items most recently have been River Island, New Look, Primark, Simply Be, all for clothes & footwear; JD Sport for trainers & sportswear; Accessorize for summer clothing & jewellery; Orelia & Etsy shops for jewellery.

SommerTen · 18/08/2022 09:02

I like Zara too.

EllaPaella · 18/08/2022 22:04

I'm 43. I like Fran Bacon and Instyle by Helen on instagram.

TheOGCCL · 19/08/2022 08:13

I like watching Trinny, her Closet Confessions and Trinny Takeover series, also when she occasionally does a Zara shop up. She’s more into looking ageless and I love her use of colour. I also like Lydia Jane Tomlinson’s effortless chic. I agree with a pp saying 40s influencers are not necessarily what I’m looking for despite being in my 40s. There’s often a ‘look’ they have - ‘the trendy mum’ - and I guess by my age I don’t want to look like a carbon cutout. I look at Midlife Chic but she definitely dresses too old (and too neat) for me. I’ve never bought anything from Boden. Maybe in a few years she will work for me.

I shop all over, last items I’ve bought have been from Stradivarius, Uniqlo, Primark, Esprit, M&S and New Look.

Afterfire · 19/08/2022 08:17

I’m 42 and still shop at the same places I always have - asos, h and m, river island, new look.

I don’t follow any bloggers etc because I find all the ones my age or thereabouts tend to be “how to look great in middle age” type ones and I think it’s actually better to just see what’s in the “new in” sections in shops and try on stuff and see what works.
