If you're interested in fashion and clothes and are in your 40s where do you shop and what blogs/Instagrammers do you follow?

Nearly 49.

I shop at Sezane, Hush, Jigsaw, Me+Em.
Zara for coats.
Vinted for odd bits and bobs - I got a fantastic B&SH leather swing jacket from there recently.

and for shopping: TOAST, Everlane, LF Markey, Jaeger (via M&S), Uniqlo, Essentiel Antwerp, Monki, Muji; underwear from M&S (the Rosie/Autograph stuff is great); tights from Snag. I dig around in Wolf & Badger for smaller brands, and get a lot of stuff from eBay and Vinted. I also really like a lot of the daywear clothes that sports brands like Nike and Adidas make.

Mostly second hand so lots of variation. I like some Whistles pieces that I have picked up especially as they are made of natural materials, TK Maxx, Primark has surprised me in terms of their jeans, French Connection, New Look and both old and new Topshop. I don’t think about age in terms of the fashion I like, I just buy what I like and what suits me. I also like All Saints but have really only bought two things first hand from them which are t shirts. Love the boyfriend t that I bought a few years back.

I follow two blogs; that's not my age and midlife chic. Neither is really my style (nor my age 😊), but that's not my age can be good for unusual brands. Both websites rather than Instagram.

For shopping cos, monki, arket, Massimo dutti mostly.

Wardrobe icons on instagram is good.

Picklewicklepickle · 04/04/2023 15:18

41 and most recent purchases are from H&M, Zara and Hush (I’m such a cliche), I WFH and have 2 small DC so I’m usually either in gym clothes or casuals.

I followed a lot of IGs after I lost my way a bit post DC1 but unfollowed a lot of them as they were too same-y with identical promotions.

I like Style Insider and Karen Brit Chick on YouTube. They're both over 40 and look amazing.

I'm 42, couldn't get on with midlife chic, just very dull clothes imo. I like her blog, thought the way she writes was really good but I think she dresses a good decade older than I do.

People I follow - this is mothership - they mostly do beauty but I like their occasional forays into high st style.

Sheer luxe have a lot of content and I like to see what their picks are. We love the high st as well, sometimes some good stuff on there. They are obsessed with designer dupes but some of their other picks are decent.

Also follow wears my money - I'm not even sure why because I don't like most of her clothes - it is the sort of thing I wear but it's never quite right - like the albaray stuff from yesterday the only thing I liked was the plain white t shirt 😂 which was inevitably out of stock.

I like backofthewardrobe70 on Instagram.

Is the phone part of her face? Every photo has her phone covering her face! 🤷‍♀️

Hellenabe · 09/04/2023 06:01

Mid 40s here : I have a lot from Mango and Anthropologie. Basics like underwear and flared jeans from M&S.

Oh, I also read Who, What, Wear every day but do find their twin obsessions with looking “expensive” and “French” very annoying!

I’ve stopped reading whowhatwear for this reason. Ridiculous! “Here are 10 items French women always buy” or variations of that article every single day. Really poor!

lindyloo57 · 09/04/2023 17:23

I agree that midlife chic seem to dress a decade older than me, and I am 62, I shop at h& m, not so much these days, as I am trying to buy less but better, love mint velvet but only in the sale, m & s, hush I only have a couple of items from them, next on line I like as there's lots of brands to chose from, and john lewis, I did buy a spendy item from Anthropology last year, a cheese cloth shirt, I do love it, and wear it lots in the summer. And just brought a wool navy coat in the next sale from j crew which is gorgeous.

I'm 42, mainly shop on Vinted, but the high street brands I like are Cos, Arket, Farm Rio and Massimo Dutti. I buy various designer and vintage things on Vinted and Vestiare as well.

I use Pinterest a lot to look for ideas, and love the Vogue app, especially the street fashion photos. I can't be arsed with influencers and bloggers, or even most fashion editorial, because the god-awful writing gives me rage.
