I use protein twice a week on it
Does it need more protein treatments or moisturising conditioner?
Help
It's so brittle

It looks very dry and could do with a cut to remove the dead ends.

Pancakeorcrepe · 08/08/2022 21:06

OP is it very processed? I do think you need a cut.
Beware of too many protein treatments as this can actually make the structure weaker.

@boyff I agree with PP, the protein treatments may not be what you need for your hair, twice a week seems like a lot to me.

What kind of processing/styling do you do? What’s your current routine

PicturesOfDogs · 08/08/2022 21:11

Less protein more moisture!
Too much protein can make hair brittle.

There’s a test you can do, by stretching one strand.
If it snaps easily/straight away, you need moisture, whereas if it stretches loads before snapping you need protein.

PicturesOfDogs · 08/08/2022 21:14

Or the other way sorry!
Too much moisture, your hair will stretch and stay stretched , too much protein it will be brittle and break easily.
the stand should stretch a little but then bounce back and not stay stretched

boyff · 08/08/2022 21:15

At the minute I use a kerastase shampoo for damaged hair and a protein mask twice a week.

I agree with the above pps, i would also ask if it could be age related. In my 40s my hair suddenly became super dry. It took me ages and some money to find how to look after it. I now alternate between Aveda dry remedy and olaplex shampoos and conditioners with hair oil, and wash it only every 5 to 7 days.

PersonaNonGarter · 08/08/2022 21:18

Do a Brazilian blow dry which will help with this including reducing the time you are blow drying.

SALON QUALITY KERATIN WITH PROFESSIONAL RESULTS. Brazilian Straight, Purple Treatment Kit, 1-3 APPLICATIONS, Hair Straightening/Blow Dry/Smoothing/Home Use/Frizz Free

PersonaNonGarter · 08/08/2022 21:18

Sorry that was meant to be a link but you can put this into Amazon

Aquamarine1029 · 08/08/2022 21:21

You need to cut off all of that damaged hair and stop over processing it. It looks very, very dry.

Okay so rather than doing a protein mask, you need to do a deep conditioning one instead.
The protein masks will be making it worse.

maybe start with a hot oil treatment, followed by a deep conditioning treatment

premiumwine · 08/08/2022 21:26

Pulling on a strand bits snap off

why would you pull on it to begin with? Especially with the condition it’s in😂 What did you expect to happen?

Honestly I think your split ends have gotten out of control to where you need a proper cut of 3-4 inches off. It’s the split ends that’s causing it to snap, yours are a few inches up the hair shaft.

OhMerde · 08/08/2022 21:28

It needs everything throwing at it to salvage it! A drastic trim to get rid of as much of the damage as possible. A break from bleach. Olaplex treatments, K8 and elasticizer. Good nutrition. Gentle treatment.

Andromachehadabadday · 08/08/2022 21:30

pps Are right. Protein twice a week is a lot for most peoples hair. Protein is not one of those things where the more you use it, the better it is. You are over doing it, causing the hair to become brittle.

bleach won’t be helping either.

RestingMurderousFace · 08/08/2022 21:31

Too much protein! Needs moisture, moisture, moisture.

boyff · 08/08/2022 21:32

I haven't bleached in 3 months
Spent a fortune on hair products and nothing helping

I'm sorry to say that no product is going to fix that much damage, so don't waste any more money. It needs to be cut.

boyff · 08/08/2022 21:36

How short would you cut it?

How short would you cut it?

How far up the shaft is it in this condition?

boyff · 08/08/2022 21:41

Up to my shoulders

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 08/08/2022 21:43

Cut it up to your shoulders and start over.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/08/2022 21:45

It needs a good cut, will make a huge difference.
