How much would you pay for a bikini/swimming costume?

I am shopping for new swimming costumes and bikinis because I am going away for a few days next week but I noticed they are all really expensive. How much would you pay for a bikini or swimming costume?

I'll spend more n the top than the bottom. Generally Buy seafolly brand or similar (hopefully in the sale!) for the top half for good support and a cheaper plain bottom.

DSGR · 23/07/2022 18:23

For a tankini and brief set I’ve paid £130 but it lasted years. Mostly I pay about £70 from places like Boden but they do last a few years

NameChanger567 · 23/07/2022 18:27

Would it be ok if the bikini top and bottom don't match? I have seen a nice but expensive bikini top but would it be ok if I pair it with plain bottoms?

Seafolly here too, and occasionally Boden, because they fit my shape well. I used to buy cheap and cheerful but can’t get away with it now. So probably £60 to £100, but preferably in the sale.

PermanentlyTired03 · 23/07/2022 18:33

@NameChanger567 I say if the bottoms are plain and a similar colour to a top then it's fine. A red spotty top might look odd with zebra print bottoms!

SpotlessMind88 · 23/07/2022 18:34

I buy my bikinis from primark. A triangle bikini top is £2.

Watapalava · 23/07/2022 18:36

£30-40

I like to have a new one per day when abroad as I consider it my day time outfit!

younger women (more pert!) can get away with much cheaper bikinis ime so could pay £10-15

No good if you are big in the boob department. I need support so tend to spend around £70. I try and shop the sales though.

Good for you. This style in a cheap fabric would not have looked decent on me past the age of 11.

Boden fan they wear well and worth it

Harridan1981 · 23/07/2022 18:41

I invested in a Deakin and Blue one for around £100 this year, love it.

In the past would probably spend around £40 from M&S or similar from Boden.

MallampatiCatty · 23/07/2022 18:43

Swim stuff is so expensive- I agree! I buy from Joules, Tesco, M&S - I've found around £25 is very good for a set or £30-35 for a swimsuit otherwise you just have to fork out more. Friends recommended new look or accessorize too but just couldn't find anything that fitted. I managed to buy a lovely Boden one in the winter sale and the quality was awful, it felt apart. I sent it back after about 6 months and they gave me a refund. I like their stuff but it's put me off.

I have found Tesco bikinis to be decent quality and have had them 2+ years which given i swim weekly is not bad!

Agree totally- after years of buying cheaper ones I bought one from Boden and am a total convert!

KittyMcKitty · 23/07/2022 18:47

^ it was £75 from Boden.

I spent a while looking for new bikinis and swimsuits earlier in the year. Lost the will to live and ended up with another £10 swimsuit from Primark. Padded cups and detachable straps. Honestly so comfy. Appreciate it won't work for all but I'd say supportive enough up to a C cup. Haven't tried their bikinis though.

claracluck1978 · 23/07/2022 18:52

I'm a fan of Deakin and Blue too.
I have 4 but I wear them year round swimming as well as holidays

Just returned from beach holiday and lots of women wearing mismatched bikinis. As pp said though, pattern only on one or t'other. One day i wore a leopard print bottom with black top.

I have big norks so i spend as much on a good bikini top as i would on a good bra. ie: anywhere up to £60 quid odd.

Having said that i got a lovely frilly 36G halter neck bikini top from fig leaves last year which was only about £20 and is comfy and supportive enough to wear under a vest top all day.

Madamecastafiore · 23/07/2022 19:15

£200 maybe?

Blueuggboots · 23/07/2022 19:20

I have paid up to £60 but my most recent Slazenger tankini was a tenner and it's fab!!

Do you recommend any of their swimsuits in particular?

dementedpixie · 23/07/2022 20:45

I bought separates from belle lingerie
My tops don't match the bottoms but the bottoms are mainly black as are the tops. The bikini tops are more expensive than the bottoms but I buy bra sized (36GG/38G)

Twattergy · 23/07/2022 20:48

I'm willing to spend quite a lot in theory (up to 100 I guess) but always end up getting M and S for c £35....I find the quality really good and they always have a handful of decent styles in amongst the mumsy stuff....

RomainingCalm · 23/07/2022 20:50

Probably around £60-70 each but I tend to buy brands that work for the larger norks with plenty of support, underwired and proper sizes.

That said, I have some bikinis that have lasted for years and given the battering they get on holiday with chlorine, sand and sea water they are probably better 'cost per wear' than many of my other clothes.

Iamclearlyamug · 23/07/2022 21:00

I spent £54 on a swimsuit from Bravissimo last week and nearly fainted at the cost - but with 34HH boobs I had little choice

Tbf it seems to be excellent quality, and very supportive and flattering

Springduckling · 23/07/2022 22:16

About £55 from zoggs
