Looking for a swimsuit with capri-length swim leggings? Does this exist?

Hi, I am going on holiday soon but very, very uncomfortable with the swimming costume side of things. I am 5' 2, size 14 and have a tummy and big thighs I would like to conceal with something well fitting so I can be confident and enjoy swimming and being able to relax on hols.

I have seen some very flimsy looking swim leggings on Amazon, but looking for something sturdy and of decent quality. I don't mind arms being exposed, its more tummy control (nice to have) and midi-length swim leggings. Can anyone help?

Decathlon have swim suits that are shorts on the bottom.

AltCarbon · 22/07/2022 10:04

Decathlon do good quality/value leggings in their swimming and surfing ranges but it’s not part of a swimsuit. They also do boy leg swimsuits but they’re more like cycling shorts in length. Slazenger do a similar swimsuit which is available on Amazon if you don’t have a Decathlon handy (and I would recommend going to check the sizes).

Fitzfatsfeist · 22/07/2022 10:05

No direct recommendations but try searching for modest swimwear should come up with some options. Or kneesuits are a bit shorter (knee length) but may be suitable?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/07/2022 10:09

I sometimes swim in a swimsuit and gym leggings (not in a public pool though, they usually have guidelines on what to wear, but this should be ok for sea swimming).

I am just looking at Calypsa/ModLi, which have a whole variety of tops and bottoms that you can combine. Combinations of tighter tops, looser ones with swim bras, shorts, leggings, capris, etc.

They are more expensive than I'd like.

But could be worth looking at. I don't know what they are like for actually swimming in. I'm reading the reviews of the various options at the moment and trying to decide if it's worth ordering. They seem to have a separate distribution centre or at least express shipping for UK delivery/returns, as it says 3-8 days, but I've not tried ordering yet.

Try surfing ranges - roxy, billabong, rip curl etc.

My friend showed me some stuff she got from a company called blue tit chill swimmers, they had shorts and they were lovely. thebluetits.co/product-category/bluetit-kit/rash-vests/

Wiggle have a choice of knee suits, rather than capri length.

CRbear · 22/07/2022 10:15

I would really consider what your motivation is here. If you’re looking for one of these to conceal , so people don’t look at you, I think it will have the opposite effect! It would be very unusual to see someone wearing something like this in a pool/beach whereas people of all shapes and sizes wear swimming costumes so don’t garner a second glance. At a size 14 you’re very average (for want of a better word!).

SmallElephants · 22/07/2022 10:18

Where are you going to? In france for instance burkini type swimwear is banned so you may need to check what you are planning is allowed.

TheCanyon · 22/07/2022 10:25

I saw a few different full coverage swimsuits on matalan

CannibalQueen · 22/07/2022 10:29

You can buy three quarter length swimming suits now from places like amazon. This one will cover your thighs.
www.amazon.co.uk/APOONABA-Swimsuits-Swimming-Costume-Swimwear/dp/B08ZHH9WC2/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1IL6VYB51O7P&keywords=three+quarter+swimming+suit&qid=1658482062&sprefix=three+quarter+swimming+suit%2Caps%2C93&sr=8-10
But yes, look for 'modest' swim suits, or three quarter length swim suits.

Evans do these starting at size 14

Look for women's board shorts for swimming. Animal, Roxy and Lands End do them. You could pair them with a rash vest or normal swimming costume.

TenPenceMix · 22/07/2022 10:53

The next swim leggings are rubbish- really thin. Lululemon do some really nice ones but they are super expensive and always sell out quickly.
Kayak 2 piece and SUP 2 piece are really in short supply this year- GUL released a set for men but not women.
Your best bet is definitely Decathlon but if you order online you have to pay the returns.
There are some good ones on Amazon, just have a look at the reviews to see for quality, anything over £30 should be ok.
Some leggings are a neoprene mix, so more like wetsuit material and others are just swimsuit material.
Cotswold had some lovely ones in. I think they were The North Face or Speedo.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/07/2022 13:18

If you are set on leggings, any sweat wicking ones will be fine to swim in, ie they won’t hold on to water. Technical branded fabrics like Coolmax and DriFit (Nike).

Agree. I'm a 18 and wear bikinis because life is too short tgaf

DeclineandFall · 22/07/2022 13:22

Modest swimwear is what you need to look for. It is aimed at women who need to cover up for religious reasons but it is designed for swimming rather than just covering.

Moonface123 · 22/07/2022 13:22

Amazon have some very good swimwear, lots of different designs, swim shorts and swim dresses which are slightly longer than a regular costume and more flattering.

I was thinking exactly this.

If I saw someone on holiday wearing swim leggings, I'd probably look at them more than I would if they were larger figured (which you aren't at a size 14 at all) as it's very unusual to see, other than burkinis

I agree with this, at a resort pool or beach this will make you stand out far more than a normal tummy control swimsuit and a sarong

Yodaisawally · 22/07/2022 13:41

M&S do swim leggings. I would imagine a swimsuit with leggings attached would be horrible to get in and out of going to the toilet.

I also agree with others that it will just make you stand out more, a rashguard and board shorts would be a better option imo or just wear the bloody swimsuit, at a size 14 no one will bat an eyelid (I say this as an 18!).

redandyellowbits · 22/07/2022 15:35

Thank you all, I have taken a look and actually am thinking the capri shorts might just stand out too much - I hadn't considered that. Found a few nice sets with shorts on Amazon, so have ordered a whole bunch of them to try on - wish me luck!

I have a tugless swimsuit from Landsend and I bought women’s surf shorts from Finisterre. I love them, am so over feeling exposed when I just want to get on with having fun.

MenaiMna · 22/07/2022 15:55

I've seen black cropped swim leggings for 19.99 on bonprix, you can mix and match with their tankini tops. I wear their plus size swimwear- quite sturdy and good value!
