My bikini looks like underwear

According to my husband…

I did a trial run of my holiday bikini in the paddling pool yesterday and my husband thought I was wearing underwear. It’s the top from the picture and bottoms in a very very similar fabric from M&S with a higher cut leg.

Surely my husband has just forgotten what a bikini looks like after two years of covid? Please reassure me that this is a good bikini, I was so happy to have put this together on my small boob / sturdy bottom half figure… I was expecting a compliment!

It’s him, not you. I’ve been abroad twice in the last few months and there were lots of women in similar bikinis.

It's probably because it's a plain colour and he associates swimwear with colourful patterns?

I’ve got one that style but in blue. I love it - it’s super flattering and doesn’t fall down when I swim. I don’t think it looks anymore like underwear then any other bikini

I’m sure it will be absolutely fine, but I do have underwear exactly like that, so he’s not wrong.

My dd says that about my bikini, bra size balconette patterned. Yours looks less like underwear, and looks very comfortable.

Bikinis are just sort of waterproof underwear aren't they though really? I think it's really nice and I'm sure you look great in it either way.

I have to be honest it does look a bit like underwear. It’s the cut combined with the plain black colour. However on hols when everyone else is wearing swim wear it will be obvious that it is a bikini and not anything else. So I wouldn’t sweat it.

It looks like it could be a sports bra and shorts. That's not a bad thing! I wear a sports bra and shorts swimming as I don't own a bikini and my swimming costume is uncomfortable.

He's have a fit at mine then. It's one of those with a thong back 🤣 Tell him you'll wear what makes you feel nice.

It looks exactly same as my one and I wasn't the only woman wearing that style on holiday this year.

It does a bit , but that’s fine. It’s a modern, sophisticated bikini shape and is very flattering. He’ll no doubt be thinking a bikini has to be bold colours or patterned or little triangles for the top.

I'd say that you have underwear that looks like a bikini then.

It's a good style, op - I had a style like that when I was younger, it did have some blocks of colour on it but loads of swimwear is plain black.

Sorry but yeah it looks like underwear to me. But a lot of bikinis look like underwear anyway. I think it's probably the sport bra style that making him think it's like underwear.

It does, but a bikini is just water appropriate underwear. No-one is going to think you are in underwear on a beach or by a pool.

if it was in a different colour it might look more traditionally swimwear like, but there's nothing wrong with a black bikini.

But I am literally wearing identical shaped underwear right now, it's just different fabric.

I think because its black and and block colour. I would have said that was underwear too as the top doesn't have a bikini feel to it, more a sports bra
