Do you wash your foundation brush every time you use it?

I've just ordered one online. Previously only used my fingers.

Surely washing it every time is impractical?

I wipe it with a wet wipe or spray with alcohol. Tbh I find them annoying and now only use my fingers again.

I wash mine twice a week. I use one of those silicone brush washing pads with some soap and it works brilliantly.

SheWoreYellow · 10/07/2022 15:18

Definitely not every time I use it.

Tillow4ever · 10/07/2022 15:18

I don’t think I’ve ever washed mine….. are we supposed to? 😱 I only use make up a couple of times a year so not really up on the correct methods etc!

You should wash it. They can harbour bacteria.

picklemewalnuts · 10/07/2022 15:27

I've got gazillions of make up brushes of various kinds. I rarely use them, as I can't be bothered washing them between uses. Seems really impractical.

Aksbdt · 10/07/2022 15:28

Christ no! Every so often when I think of it, probably should do it more but definitely not every time

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/07/2022 15:28

I use a spray and wipe it.

FrecklesMalone · 10/07/2022 15:30

I have never done this. I have brushes for years. Nothing bad has ever happened and I have good skin so feel it would have been a total waste.

hellesbells · 10/07/2022 15:34

Dirty make brushes won't apply make up properly the need to be washed every second use at a minimum, as someone said above the harbour a load of bacteria

Isabelle70 · 10/07/2022 15:36

I only use foundation and blusher brushes regularly. The foundation brush gets washed after 5 days as I don't wear makeup at the weekend. If I do it's a clean brush. I use baby shampoo and a silicone scrubby mat to clean

BlueStarfish · 10/07/2022 15:57

I wash mine every now and then, not every day as it takes a while to dry. I use baby shampoo instead of regular makeup shampoo (I saw a MUA on tv and he said it's cheaper and gets the job done).

chilledbubble · 10/07/2022 16:14

I have 3 in rotation and wash them once I swap foundation or every 2-3 uses depending how thick and heavy the foundation is.

Do you use liquid foundation? Mine won't apply as well if I don't wash the brushes

pbj · 10/07/2022 16:24

Hardly ever wash them and my skin looks fabulous.

Thatswhyimacat · 10/07/2022 20:31

I never wash my brushes. The only bacteria that are going to get on it are the ones that have come off my face anyway.

chilledbubble · 10/07/2022 20:43

But there's all sorts on your face that can breed on your brush

sohosoho · 10/07/2022 21:25

At least once a week. I find make up goes on much better with a washed brush.

SkeletonFight · 10/07/2022 21:27

I use the wedges instead of a brush and then throw them 😬 I also have reusable ones to atone for this sin. Had my make up done professionally recently and she uses wedges dipped in cold water and it was lovely. I do clean brushes every couple of months with Bare Minerals cleanser and those silicone pads.

Confuzzled19 · 10/07/2022 23:42

To not wash brushes is extremely unhygienic. Plus the product will build up on the brush and it won’t apply as well.

Palamon · 10/07/2022 23:46

I wash my makeup brushes (and there are many of them) about twice a year.

ASlipperyGenius · 11/07/2022 15:56

I try and dedicate a day every 2 weeks or so to cleaning all my brushes. Just use my palm and fingers with my fingers close together and some dish soap and brush it back and forth over my fingers whilst in water! I just chuck my beauty sponges in the washing machine though haha

veggiemonster · 11/07/2022 16:09

Hate to admit this but even brushes I use everyday I probably clean twice a year. It's so messy, boring and time consuming. I have pretty oily skin so I really should clean them more regularly.
