Do you wash your foundation brush every time you use it?

I've just ordered one online. Previously only used my fingers.

Surely washing it every time is impractical?

I don't use a foundation brush... but occasionally use a brush for dry powder blusher/highlighter etc. I hardly ever wash it, probably should now I think about it.

I wash my foundation brush once a week. It's just part of my Sunday "prep for the week ahead" routine now. Other brushes that I don't use as often get washed fortnightly or monthly depending on use.
I agree that when you see what comes out of your brush, you are inclined to wash them regularly!

I don't wear foundation very often but I'm thinking maybe have 2 brushes - one in use, one being washed/drying.

Also like the idea of having lots of sponges to throw away/put in washing machine!

Once or twice a week. I wash it with soap and warm water, takes a minute.

You've just reminded me to do it. I did it last at least 6 months ago. PPs are right in that you get build up and if you use liquid foundation the brush is always wet from the build up. Can't be good for your skin. I will try harder in future!

I don't do it as often as I should, but find I end up using more foundation with a clean brush. When I do clean it I use the Emma Hardie Moringa cleansing balm - works an absolute treat! I got it with an advent calendar and it doesn't agree with my skin.

I wash mine every time. I have a few so just wash all of them every few days and use a fresh one every time. Who wants to apply a load of dried up old foundation to their face? Bacteria aside, it's hardly going to look nice.

I don't use foundation but I do use creme Blush everyday. I have 3 brushes on rotation and clean them after each use. It doesn't go onto the skin very well on a used brush.

I have 3 makeup sets (home, work desk, travel) so have 3 sets of brushes. And I don't wear makeup consistently (a fair amount but not daily).

I give each set of brushes a wash when I think of it. The travel set is often when I am away and have an early night and do a facial, big clean of me etc and am not rushing in the morning. (Dry them a LOT on the towels and leave them overnight in warm bathroom - usually dry to use in morning).

The others, it's when I think of it. Usually between 2 and 4 times a year.

I wipe it on a dry flannel after every use which gets off a lot of the excess. Wash once a week. It dries really quickly so I don't need more than one. Other brushes get washed once a month.

As I’ve got older I’ve adapted my make up routine to gel / liquid and soft pencil formulations and now barely use a brush ever. I only wear foundation very occasionally and find finger application pretty good. Concealer and gel bronzer and blusher I use fingers also. I use Bobbi Brown eye shadow pencils which go on directly. I think when I was younger I was more interested in the techniques and wanted all the tools. Now I just want to look nice and can’t be doing with that fannying about.

EveParker22 · 16/07/2022 00:03

I used to wash it but the brushes were expensive and got ruined!

I bought this spray instead and it works a treat!

Housewife2010 · 16/07/2022 07:39

I couldn't use a dirty brush on my face. I use a beauty blender to apply foundation and wash it with soap straight after using it. I apply my makeup in the bathroom so it is very quick to wash my sponge and eyeshadow brushes after every use. I wash my powder brush every week. I use soap on brushes and it works well.
