How old are your hair straighteners?

I bought my Cloud 9s in 2013, I use them everyday and they're still in perfect working order. The plates are a bit scratched though, so I wondered whether that was bad for my hair, and Google told me that hair straighteners should be replaced every 3 or 4 years (as apparently the plates can heat unevenly or overheat with age).

I know that might well be a marketing trick to get people to buy new straighteners, and I hate throwing out things that are (seemingly) working perfectly well, but I'm just curious whether people on here replace their straighteners every so often or keep them until they wear out?

Mine were 12 years old well outlasted the boyfriend that brought them, replaced last year with cloud nine I needed a new hair dryer and I have much longer hair now so treated myself to some wide plated ones.

Bought my first GHDs in 2002. They broke in 2005 and GHD replaced them for free. I’m still using that set so they are now 17 years old and still going strong. One of my best ever investments - changed my life as a teen with frizzy hair!!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 04/07/2022 12:02

I've had my GHDs since about 2002 I think. Still going strong.

chiffchaffchiff · 04/07/2022 14:11

My cloud 9s are about 4 years old. My previous Remington ones were about 8 years old and I didn't realise until I upgraded that they were seriously damaging my hair (it was very frizzy without straightening). No signs of damage from the cloud 9s and my hair is in much better condition now.

8 years maybe.. but I used it the other day and the result is rubbish now that I know what Babyliss big hair can do. I hardly ever straighten it it's either my Big Hair or au naturel

15 year old GHDs. I think the newer ones don't last anywhere near that long. Mine still work just as well as they did when they were new.

IloveJudgeJudy · 04/07/2022 18:41

18-20 year old GHDs. No longer used daily but still working perfectly when I do use them.

bathroomshell · 04/07/2022 18:49

Ghds and they're 17 years old

Justcashnosweets · 04/07/2022 20:59

I think I've had my GHD's for about 15 years! Still going strong!

Cloud 9s about six years old and still think of them as relatively new.

fpurplea · 04/07/2022 21:11

ZenNudist · 04/07/2022 21:18

trevthecat · 04/07/2022 21:39

My ghds were bought Xmas 2013. They still work as good as day one

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 04/07/2022 21:44

Mine are cheapo Phillips ones that my mum bought me for Christmas in 2005. Still used most days and going strong!

gunnersgold · 04/07/2022 21:53

I have 25 maybe older ghds but I have curly hair so they have only probably been used for a few years worth in that time .!
