What's in?
Everywhere I go, I see midi dresses , flats and a denim jacket.
I'm mid forties btw.
Alternatively I see oversized billowy trousers and linen shirts with cross body's and trainer.
What's in where you are?

Where I am the teens/early 20s look like they've wandered straight out of the mid 90s, baggy trousers, huge oversized jackets, cropped t shirts.

My fellow 40 somethings seem to be still welded to their skinny jeans - which I never liked even during their heyday.

vestedinterests · 30/06/2022 11:18

Apparently white trainers Wink

GlitteryGreen · 30/06/2022 11:21

I've heard that wearing visible ankle socks instead of trainers socks is now the in thing.

memyselfi · 30/06/2022 11:23

Following! Going back to full time work next week after 10 years as a SAHM that lives in jeans! Trying to recreate a working wardrobe but based on what I used to wear a decade ago. Don't want to make a prat of myself.

TomAllenWife · 30/06/2022 11:37

I just bought some silk cargo pants from Zara similar to the ones I had in the 90s and I love them so much 💗

ethelredonagoodday · 30/06/2022 11:58

Think it depends on what age you are! What my teen considers 'in', is not necessarily what I'd choose to wear! I did the nineties stuff first time around!

Bomber type jackets, and looser jeans, without going for the full baggies, seems to be on trend here. Still trainers on the go, both the ubiquitous white trainer, plus some nikes, new balance etc...

DaphneeBridgerton · 30/06/2022 12:01

How old are you OP?

I fancy myself an amateur stylist if you want me to be more specific!

DaphneeBridgerton · 30/06/2022 12:03

I would create a capsule wardrobe for this including:

Straight black/blue jeans
Black leather ankle boots
Smart tan leather sandals
Black slightly oversized blacker
Same as above in cream/beige
A few silk/cotton cami vests
Smart black or tan tote bag
Good quality white and black t shirt

You can mix and match! I can be more specific if there is a dress code

DaphneeBridgerton · 30/06/2022 12:04

My above reply was meant for you @MrsDeltaB

Aw that's great thank you! Office smart but not suited and booted if that makes sense. I've bought some classic black trousers and aiming for a pencil skirt also so basic but stylish?

Thank you for your ideas! X

I wouldn’t go for a pencil skirt personally - I would look for a satin/silk bias cut skirt in a nice pattern that can be paired with ankle boots, sandals or white trainers depending on your day!

When it comes to a classic work wardrobe you want to go for materials like silk, linen and leather as they look much smarter

NaturalScone · 30/06/2022 12:32

no one on here will know.

TomAllenWife · 30/06/2022 12:36

I would love to know where to buy good quality t shirts that aren't boxy or too short

sliders3 · 30/06/2022 12:43

I'm
Mid to
Late forties .. size 14-16

Yep similar near me.

The white trainers + floral dress + denim jacket combo is fairly ubiquitous round my way - cute little skater dresses for the teens/twentysomethings, tea/shirt/midi dresses for anyone over about 30.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 30/06/2022 13:12

Low-rise jeans are coming back on teenagers. It’s where fashion and I will finally part ways. I did them last time. See also cargo pants. I do quite like a crop top though.

Baggy, pleated high-waist linen trousers are everywhere, to be worn with oversized shirts or boxy T-shirts, or with those cropped vests where the straps are nearly racer shaped but not quite. Black chunky sandals. Blazers are still everywhere.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 30/06/2022 13:18

Oh my god, I absolutely will not go back to low waisted jeans. I loved them in my youth (spent a decade risking flashing my bum crack when bending over) but would look absolutely awful in them now.

TomAllenWife · 30/06/2022 14:07

@DaphneeBridgerton I love the madewell ones

Do you know if they're shipped from US?

I made the mistake of ordering some trousers from France and it cost £75 with shipping & duty 😱

DaphneeBridgerton · 30/06/2022 14:13

They do ship here from the US (taxes inc in the price you see) but it’s the returns that are expensive

let me find you an alternative. MW are on ASOS too but can’t see the t shirt on there!
