What's in?
Everywhere I go, I see midi dresses , flats and a denim jacket.
I'm mid forties btw.
Alternatively I see oversized billowy trousers and linen shirts with cross body's and trainer.
What's in where you are?

@DaphneeBridgerton how long ago did you get things shipped from there?

I think since brexit things have changed.

The shipping on the trousers was £15, it wasn't until DHL got them that they requested £60.11 for duty

On their website it says that all taxes and duties are included in the price unless you live in Canada

But it’s V expensive to return something (I think £30 ish) so you’d have to be sure on your size

JennieTheZebra · 30/06/2022 15:12

@TomAllenWife were your trousers more than £135? That’s the cut off for duty and VAT for less than that is paid up front. I order a lot from the States and IMHO it’s actually cheaper to buy from the US now. Before you used to get “double taxed”: American sales tax during the purchase and VAT when it was imported-plus the Royal Mail handling fee 🙄 now it’s just UK VAT

I can’t remember, sorry! Probably shouldn’t have recommended a US website

Oh, that wasn’t for me!

TomAllenWife · 30/06/2022 15:16

@JennieTheZebra yes they were
That's good to know that I can order under that amount thank you

@DaphneeBridgerton I'd probably go for a medium, I'm a size 20 with 32F boobs

Would you go for Arket or Madewell??

Difficult to see the length on Arket ones

WishICouldButIDontWantTo · 30/06/2022 15:18

Mom jeans! Seeing them everywhere and just bought myself a pair the other week - comfiest pair of jeans everywhere!

I've heard that wearing visible ankle socks instead of trainers socks is now the in thing.

Shock That explains a lot. I went to buy trainer socks a few weeks ago and couldn't get any that didn't peak above my trainers. In the end I thought "fuck it" and got some. I just put it down to me trying to buy trainer socks from cheap-o shops but it looks like it's because I'm completely on-trend

I’d go for Arket I’ve never been disappointed with a purchase from there to be honest!

I love the current 90s trend because I have never really stopped wearing 90s stuff, it’s hardwired in my brain like now. Grin I can’t remember enough about the 00s fashions though that I actually liked, to want to revive any of that.

I just remember Paris and Nicole and Britney and lots of hot pink or bright turquoise Juicy Couture rhinestoney velour crap, low rise jeans and handkerchief tops, lots of aspiration to American fashion and generally silly clothes that looked crap. I do like clothes that don’t take themselves too seriously but there’s a limit.

Is there a current look that I can go for that isn't essentially nostalgic or is that what fashion is now? I remember in the 90s a lot of fashion referenced the 60s and 70s, so maybe, it was always this way.

So you want a 90s look? Or 00s look?

BeachwoodCafe · 30/06/2022 19:46

Thanks Daphne I’d just like to be able to look current enough to pass, and am a bit worried about what to wear once the 90s revival finally dies out. Smile It’s really easy to put together nostalgic looks if you have lived through that time period.

fatlazycow · 30/06/2022 19:50

Amongst teens I notice:

big wide leg baggy jeans teamed with tight crop tops

White Nike Air Force trainers EVERYWHERE, seriously when you look at the youth going into the local college I would say literally 90% have those identical trainers.

However I am increasingly seeing high top converse in white or black which is refreshing!

flared coloured trousers

Hoop earrings

fatlazycow · 30/06/2022 19:53

i think fashion has been very 90s inspired but is now merging into early 2000s!

I love all the little shoulder handbags coming back onto the shops

amidsummernightsdream · 30/06/2022 20:55

I’m mid 30’s and this is what i see a lot of and like myself (some not all)

Trousers definitely having a moment, lots of different types- wide leg, loose fit, flowing fabric, linen, combat style, jogger style

jeans- blue and straight, loser fit

Chunky flat sole sandals and boots

Prairie/ cottage core dresses- nap dresses, doen dresses

Tight ribbed cardigans

cropped chunkier cardigans

Baggy/ flowing shirts

Clogs

Birkenstocks

White/ neutral tones

Dungarees

Oversized jackets/ blazers

Maxis

Puff sleeves (unfortunately)

Linen

amidsummernightsdream · 30/06/2022 20:56

Looser fit that should say 🙈😂

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 30/06/2022 21:28

Lots of wide leg trousers and jeans being worn near me. I’ve been wearing flared jeans again this week. I’m going to be so glad to see the demise of skinnies. I never really liked them.

BeachwoodCafe · 30/06/2022 22:28

It’ll be low-rise 00s bootcuts back soon, if not already!

no one on here will know.

Maybe all of us do and it's just you that doesn't? 🤔
