I've been getting my hair bleached at salon for 2 years now but she's been bleaching full thing every time and now my hair is in such bad condition.
What can I do?
How can I save it?
Obviously from now on I've just told her "roots only"
Please help

I would just get a decent cut personally, let it grow out a bit

catpoppet · 28/06/2022 13:11

and get a new hairdresser!

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 13:12

I was thinking a cut up to my shoulders to get rid of all the dead hair

Did she never suggest just then roots? Why did she bleach it all?

A cut and Olaplex may work. They can add Olaplex to the bleach too. It really helped my hair. Just expensive.

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 13:25

I have no idea
I am pretty dark so maybe to lift it
I just know every time I brush my hair there's breakage

You need a good cut and to stop bleaching it, especially if your hair is very dark naturally.

I think that’s what you need to do

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 14:16

My hair is very dark
Would you keep doing the roots?
I don't want to put a dark dye over it whilst in this condition
I'm thinking just keep hair masking it and doing the roots and cutting the dead off

Olaplex is great, expensive but you only use a tiny bit over night and your hair is amazing for a week after!! Be careful not to over do it or it can have the opposite effect. Order on line rather than a salon treatment.

Torin · 28/06/2022 14:24

Put coconut oil through the ends (avoid the roots) and let it sit for a good hour before washing out. Be careful in the shower it makes the tub very slippery.

User79865765 · 28/06/2022 14:25

I've put a dark dye on mine for the same reason. A semi rather than a permanent. It blends in the roots and allows the hair time to recover.

Oceanus · 28/06/2022 14:26

Your hair looks familiar...!
Kerastase shampoo - the dark green one for damaged hair
Rene Furterer - the night cream for very dry hair (you wash it off the next day)
Redken Extreme Bleach Recovery Lamellar Water - helps too but I found this effect not to last but still worked.
A minoxidil spray to help the roots too- sth from the pharmacy at Boots not from a beauty brand. Get the one with the highest concentration.

Oceanus · 28/06/2022 14:28

I would probably keep dying my hair but I'd go for a darker dye to avoid having to bleach first. I would also avoid permanent dyes and look for either a gloss or a semi-permanent one that washes off.

Sorry to jump in-but found that interesting! Which olaplex number can you add to bleach? Wink

Don't put a shop bought brown on it!

Get a good cut and stop using bleach. Maybe try balayage to give it a bit of a break.

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 14:34

@Oceanus I posted a month ago but from front view ...managed to get a shot from back today

I thought it looked familiar as in mine has looked like that! I've been there, don't despair!

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 14:51

My hairs never been the best ...but at least it resembled hair

OP posts:
minipie · 28/06/2022 14:54

Mine looks like that OP but in my case it’s due to naturally thin fine hair plus hypothyroid plus bleach 😬

Olaplex 8 at home really does help

Olaplex 2 in salon (I think it’s 2)

Good cut to get rid of the straggly ends

Your dark hair looks lovely I must say… sorry not helpful!

User79865765 · 28/06/2022 14:58

Ooo dear. Now I can see why youre so concerned. I also think the dark looked lovely and I'd get a semi put onto it asap.

Oceanus · 28/06/2022 14:58

I've looked like that... I went to a dodgy salon because I couldn't be bothered to book and wait for my usual one! I bleached it, got highlights (dye which stank of ammonia) and then she topped it of with straightening irons and no protection spray. All of it on top of me having super fine hair, it took long to recover but it can be done! The Rene Furterer one I was using twice or more a week, that's how damaged it was, now it's usually once every week and a half or two. You'll be alright, it can be fixed, it just takes time.

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 15:03

Do you think it's al gonna snap ?
Or can I protect some of it
I think I've been using too much protein too
I've now switched to kerastase geniss shampoo and the green one
Plus a hair mask (coco and Eve )
Kerastase hair protectant serum

NiqueNique · 28/06/2022 15:05

Get a cut to take off the damaged hair, and then go elsewhere to get your hair done by someone who won’t ruin it!

FWIW I think your hair looks absolutely lovely in its natural colour, and bleaching - meh, it’s bad for your hair and often doesn’t look all that great imo. I know you didn’t ask, but since your hair needs a break anyway maybe stop bleaching it, at least for now.

Oceanus · 28/06/2022 15:13

When mine looked like that it was prone to it (the Minoxidil helps at the root) but what really bothered me was it all being so dry and frizzy it never looked nice and shiny, so I mostly targeted that, to touch it as little as possible and just let it grow out the damage while protecting the root.
I think there are sprays to just protect the fiber though and keep hair from snapping mid-length but I didn't focus on that so can't help but hopefully sb will come along and help more.
NB: Kerastase has a serum that goes with the dark green shampoo and it's cr*p! Save your $$.
