I've been getting my hair bleached at salon for 2 years now but she's been bleaching full thing every time and now my hair is in such bad condition.
What can I do?
How can I save it?
Obviously from now on I've just told her "roots only"
Please help

A really good cut. Olaplex or matrix rebond and a balyage root until it is healthier. Lay off the bleach

Oceanus · 28/06/2022 15:23

For me balayage usually means having to bleach too, I have medium-dark hair and usually go for a blonde balayage, wouldn't it be better to dye just one colour? One where bleaching isn't needed first and with a quality product (in a good place). When my hair was too damaged, I was told to avoid bleaching as it strips the hair so causes more damage to already damaged hair, so I went with different shades of brown at the time.

I'd get a nice blunt Bob and leave the colour for a few months. It's salvageable.

Concerned3 · 28/06/2022 15:42

If I were you I would: cut to a just touching the shoulders lob - or shorter if you're ok with that. Need to get above the split ends (current or soon to be) to prevent the splits travelling further up the hair.

Balance of moisturing treatments; protein treatments & bond restorers e.g. Olaplex or Pureplex.

No more bleach, even on roots for at least 3 months ( preferably longer) as some overlap with already-bleached hair is inevitable.

Soft towel/ tshirt for drying. No heat styling. Silk pillowcase. No hair bands or at least use ones covered in slippy material.

It is definitely salvageable, good luck!

greenglasss · 28/06/2022 15:55

It's frustrating because I'm using so many different masks
Redken extreme (protein )
Then a moisturising one
Yet still snapping off
I haven't touched the bleach in two months now

Don’t put olaplex in it if it has too much protein. It will make it worse

CockSpadget · 28/06/2022 17:08

A good semi permanent can actually be really beneficial to the hair. I'd get the dead bottom cut off and a nice semi put on. I think it's salvageable

You need to be finding a good hairdresser to help you with all of this . A couple of inches chopped off to start with to deal with that wispy look at the ends.

waltzingparrot · 29/06/2022 01:58

Pixie cut and start again 😁

Aquamarine1029 · 29/06/2022 02:47

Get it cut up to your jawline and let it grow out. Enough with the bleach applied by people who have no idea what they're doing.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 29/06/2022 03:17

I would get a nice blunt cut and go darker light brown for a while and stop bleaching it as not a good look. You can get a few highlights at the sides to lighten it and will look lovely and take Iron as will help your hair so much. Don't tie it up either as causes hair to break.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 29/06/2022 03:20

your dark hair is gorgeous and a fantastic figure. You could go dark and have some caramel or copper highlights at the sides, would be lovely with a blunt cut until your hair recovers and no need to bleach all your hair as will completely wreck it and darker is nicer.

Monty27 · 29/06/2022 03:27

Get a hairdresser that's qualified to fix your hair. First thing is a good cut and less products. Particularly bleach 😮

Definitely.

The new blond colour isn’t a good colour.

blugray · 01/07/2022 19:36

To be blunt, you need to stop trying to be blonde.

I reckon your hair would look healthy again if you cut most of it off (into a bob) and go back to dark hair. You could even look into getting hair extensions for thickness/length

But nothing in the world would give you naturally thick/healthy blonde hair. Trying to go blonde is what’s causing the issue

also not sure what you mean by just doing the roots but I hope you don’t mean bleaching the roots. I promise you that you will look so much better with your darker hair. Damaged blonde is never a good look

SharpLily · 01/07/2022 19:42

Get a good bob, stop bleaching and let the dark grow out. Keep using good products.

Unfortunately there's no quick and easy answer but your dark hair was lovely. You'll just have to be patient until you can grow out the bleach.

Oceanus · 01/07/2022 19:49

Do not get hair extensions on hair that's breaking! Extensions will add weight and make it break even more.
Redken has a whole range for bleached hair and I stopped by to tell you to look into that!

Yes very frustrating.
It sounds like what's missing from your routine here is bond re-building treatment, these are not the same as protein.

Olaplex, or the budget version Pureplex (actually v good & cruelty-free) or google 'bond restore/ treatment', there are a few out there.

Let your hair rest a few days between each wash & mask / treatment, avoid wash & mask, followed by another wash etc. the next day.

Consider a hot oil treatment.

After a few weeks of this, including 3 / 4 bond restoring treatments, that's about as good as the hair will get & you really are best off cutting above any breakage that remains. As breakage leaves damaged ends, & that damage travels further up the hair shaft.
Good luck!

Biffatcrafts · 01/07/2022 23:58

Not sure what anyone else thinks of it, but I have always asked my hairdresser to use Olia on my hair as it has no ammonia. Also, she just does the roots and doesn't keep going over the already coloured mids and ends. It has worked really well for me and I don't get much breakage or that very dry, crispy damaged feel which people sometimes experience when using bleach on their hair regularly. Maybe you could give it a try OP? I hope it works for you.
