Nars Radiant long wear or Charlotte Tillbury airbrush foundation

Long time Doublewear user and feeling like it’s not right for me anymore. Starting to sit in my fine lines and think I may want something slightly less matt. That said, I do have combination skin so also need something that will not be oily and has staying power. Also need a bit of coverage to hide the redness and enlarged pores. im also really fair so need a foundation that does a pale enough shade.
Has anyone used either of these/both that can advise of what they think of them? Both expensive so don’t want to throw money down the pan!

I use the NARS one. I find it quite hardwork. I can only dot the foundation on the area of my face, say cheek, then I really need to work it in which takes a while. If I dot it all over my face, then buff, it has dried and can't be blended. However, you only need a tiny amount, it covers really well and I find it looks better as the day goes on. I have a Body Shop one which is much more effortless to apply.

WeeM · 20/06/2022 13:36

That’s interesting as I’ve read it’s best to apply it with your fingers which I’m not used to at all. I used to be a big fan of Body Shop make up but kind of fell away from them.

I have both and prefer the Nars because it's more of a nicer finish. The Charlotte Tilbury one is super matte and can feel like it draws out wrinkles etc

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 20/06/2022 17:28

I have the Charlotte Tilbury and not a fan. Really clings to dry patches and is quite hard work to blend so unless you have an excellent colour match it does look heavy on the face. I dilute mine now - put a drop in with my moisturiser and use it that way. Bit of a pain but it was expensive so I'm going to use it!

Get a sample off ebay. I hate the Charlotte Tilbury but also hate the Nars, just slightly less!

SandyWedges · 20/06/2022 19:47

@BrandNewBicep I agree the NARS is hard work but does look nice as the day goes on.

What do you like to use @SandyWedges ? I feel like there must be a holy grail out there! Although everyone’s skin is different I suppose.

Not sure I can bothered if it’s hard work 😫

At the moment I'm using the dregs of Charlotte tilbury magic foundation but it's been discontinued! :(

It might work, worth giving it a go I guess.

I switch between Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless and Beautiful Skin depending on what coverage I need. With the Airbrush I mix it was a little of the Hollywood Flawless Filter and it’s not as heavy but it covers all imperfections so just a touch of concealer is needed. I don’t rate any of the NARS Foundation range so CT Airbrush gets my vote.

LightOfAThousandStars · 21/06/2022 23:15

OP try and get samples to try out first before investing. Have you also looked at Fenty Foundation?

WeeM · 22/06/2022 11:16

No I’ve not heard of that one @LightOfAThousandStars ! Was just looking at Shiseido there too…

Try the Hourglass Stick Foundation, I also have oily combination skin and I love how nicely it blends and coverage is great.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/06/2022 11:39

I love the MAC studio fix foundation. Not as trendy as CT or Nars of course but it's got a good reputation for a reason. And it's cheaper!

WhatsYourBeef32 · 22/06/2022 11:51

I like a combination of UD glowy primer with mac studio fix. I'm qualified in make -up and prepping the skin properly the best way to avoid makeup sitting in fine lines. Primer is a must for me. Double wear can be a bit heavy/cakey day to day but if used with a damp beauty blender it's more forgiving.

WeeM · 22/06/2022 14:04

I have to say I don’t usually use a sponge. I did always use a primer though-I like a mattifying one that also blurs the pores. I usually find the gel textured ones are more forgiving for my oily skin than the creamy ones.
off to Google the other suggestions thanks!

*do always use a primer

TinaBurner432 · 22/06/2022 14:09

@WeeM a mattifying primer might be a bit drying for you especially with double wear. The key is balance so I tend to use a more glowy primer with a more mattifying foundation. The Aldi primers are amazing btw. They have 2 I think and love them both. One is more a lotion which gives a glowy finish and the other a gel which is basically a copy of smashbox if you haven't tried them.

WeeM · 22/06/2022 15:16

It’s the Aldi smashbox dupe I’m using just now funnily enough! It’s nearly done and I’ve not seen it back in stock for ages. I think it’s good on the blurring front. I hadn’t thought of that though with matt on matt! I think being oily I struggle with dewy/glow look because in my head I think I just look greasy!
I tried a revolution primer with spf and it’s awful on me.

TinaBurner432 · 22/06/2022 15:18

I'm oily myself but I use cetaphil oily skin cleanser which has worked miracles and really kept the oil at bay. It doesn't strip the skin either. I normally get it on sale at justmylook. Give it a go x

Isonthecase · 22/06/2022 15:30

I really like the Nars tinted moisturiser and their concealer. Only mildly lighter coverage than foundation and so easy to apply. I went in to boots for some help and they gave me a little sample pot too.

Bananaman123 · 22/06/2022 15:32

I love the nars tinted moisturiser, goes on well, good shades and lasts. Treated myself to some CT and it was awful, I’m very fair and the colour was orange, not impressed with any CT to be fair. I love the Dior foundation

WeeM · 23/06/2022 09:22

I’m currently trying the Mac studio fix as managed to get a sample. I’m not sure I’m loving it, felt it was good when I put it on but feel like it’s starting to sit in my lines already and my skin looks really textured 😫

Jynkxy85 · 23/06/2022 10:12

What primer did you use with it OP? Also it's best used with a damp sponge. I like the real techniques.
I responded yesterday as TinaBurner but I've name changed.
