Nars Radiant long wear or Charlotte Tillbury airbrush foundation

Long time Doublewear user and feeling like it’s not right for me anymore. Starting to sit in my fine lines and think I may want something slightly less matt. That said, I do have combination skin so also need something that will not be oily and has staying power. Also need a bit of coverage to hide the redness and enlarged pores. im also really fair so need a foundation that does a pale enough shade.
Has anyone used either of these/both that can advise of what they think of them? Both expensive so don’t want to throw money down the pan!

I used the Aldi smashbox dupe as that’s the only one I have at the mo. I used a buffing type brush but will try a sponge tomorrow-I’ve got a real techniques one.

im already starting to look a bit shiny too

I think regardless of primer we really need to moisturise our skin before putting on foundation, I find this more so now (at 48) than ever before. I use a nice rich moisturiser and let it sink into my skin for about 5 mins before I go in with the foundation. I also just in the last 6 months have started to use a beauty blender rather than a brush and these two things (for me) have really made a difference.

Make sure to soak the beauty blender first OP, I actually didn't really know how to use it properly at first but watched a short video on YouTube and now I love the sponge! It does need to be damp when you use it and you just sort of bounce it on your skin to push the foundation in.

Another vote for Cetaphil oily skin cleanser

Also another vote for NARS tinted moisturiser. It has a lot more pigment than many tinted moisturisers so gives more coverage. I use that plus the NARS creamy concealer on blemishes/pigment patches. Lasts really well through the day and is (I think) less ageing than foundation, and much easier to apply.

I use a moisturiser first and then primer but my skin goes greasy so easily that I can’t use anything too heavy on it. I have a few moisturisers that I flit between. I also use an spf but at the moment I’m using a moisturiser that has spf in it as I was finding 2 lots of cream then primer was too much. Oddly enough the sponge that I have recommends using it dry but I’m going to try it both ways!

That’s interesting-do you think it gives decent coverage? Most of my face is pretty red and uneven with old acne scarring.

Yes, I have mild acne and although I’m lucky not to have scars, I always have some old acne marks in the process of fading. Yes it covers old acne marks, though “live” acne needs concealer as you’d expect.

Do you have PCOS? If so then I’d recommend Dianette - really helped my oiliness (gone) and my acne (not cured but helped a lot). Doctors have different views on prescribing it over 40 but I don’t have risk factors so mine is ok with keeping me on it.

WeeM · 23/06/2022 19:07

I do have pcos and took dianette a long time ago but stopped because it didn’t agree with me but can’t remember how now. I don’t actually have too much trouble with acne now-the odd spot. It’s more the redness that previous acne has left behind, and the oiliness. Pcos means I have quite a hairy face too which I think also makes it even harder to get a foundation to sit nice.

Spironolactone can also help with oiliness I think, and quite possibly hairiness, as it has a general anti androgen effect. Glad to hear your acne has subsided!

I was going to give up Doublewear for the same reasons as you. Then I tried a sample of Charlotte Tilbury magic cream. Slap magic cream on on all over, give it a couple of minutes to sink in, then dot and blend the Doublewear over the top.

I was moisturising before but there's something in this Charlotte Tilbury stuff that makes the Doublewear glide on and look lovely all day. It's not cheap though. I finish with Chanel loose powder.

Pat McGrath foundation is amazing. I always end up coming back to it.
