Lightweight trousers?

It would be really handy to have some lighter trousers for the summer - just for going out and about but cooler than jeans. But linen trousers are such a trap - they get creased and make me look like the back end of an envelope.

Is there such a thing as a reasonably attractive pair of trousers, machine washable, won't turn into a creased dishrag as soon as you put them on, not hideously unflattering, that won't make me look like my DMIL (who is lovely and neatly dressed, but is eighty three), and wouldn't make you lot shudder?

Or should I just accept that I'm a dumpy woman in my fifties (5'4" M&S size 12) and no pair of casual trousers will ever achieve a S&B compliant look?

I was going to suggest linen as I always think it looks smart despite the creasing. Lightweight chino type trousers or cropped ones perhaps?

I was looking for the same thing as wearing skinny jeans in hot weather is a nightmare! I've ordered tapered joggers online which are flowy and light.

I have a few nice pairs from Uniqlo. I cycle to work so need trousers that work for riding my bike but also look acceptable when i'm not. Also I never iron so everything I own has to fit with that lifestyle choice Grin

Cantonet · 11/06/2022 11:00

I've discovered crinkle cotton/ Cheesecloth trousers this year as they don't need ironing and are so cool to wear.
H&M have some new ones online in 3 colours & M&S do wide 'beach' trousers and a tapered style in a similar fabric.
I'm 5 ft 3 and they're all a little long for me, so I have them shortened to a couple of inches above the ankle.

My most favourite pair of lightweight trousers ever came from Lidl! I'm shorter than you and bigger and they are perfect. It's a few years since I've seen them in Lidl but

these are the ones. I've been looking for another pair in case anything happens to the original ones and luckily found them on EBay. So happy!

uniqlo is a great shout, I'll go there and try a bunch on.

I'll also keep an eye on Lidl. DD's favourite pairs of shorts came from the magical Aisle of Dreams.

Joules had some lovely cotton trousers in recently. Lovely fit and nice and cool. I bought a couple of pairs in the last month so should still be in stock.

I got a couple of pairs of walking trousers from trespass in the sale...lovely fit and pretty stylish...

rookiemere · 11/06/2022 11:16

These https://www.gemini-woman.co.uk/item/Foil/Trapeze-7-8-Pull-on-Trouser/F2T9?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=base&utmcampaign=base&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrP7shPDl9wIVgmDmCh2eVQhcEAQYAiABEgI44PD_BwE are what you want. Unfortunately only available at independent retailers, I have two pairs and will buy more if I see them. Lightweight and don't need ironing.

goldfinchonthelawn · 11/06/2022 11:22

I got some lovely chambray wide leg trousers this season from Muji. Much more lightweight than they look. And so soft. Like wearing kittens, but cooler.

OperationRinka · 11/06/2022 11:25

I'll also look out for the Muji ones, thank you. My only current lightweight trousers are wide legged chambray from Next from about twenty years ago.

M&S have lots of nice cargos, e.g. www.marksandspencer.com/tencel-rich-cargo-camo-tapered-trousers/p/clp60528314?color=AIRFORCEBLUE

ZaZathecat · 11/06/2022 11:27

Sorry, trouble with the link, I'll try again...

Blueberrycreampie · 11/06/2022 11:31

Sorry my pic didn't load. They are Esmara Harem Trousers in black. Haven't seen them for a long time though!

OperationRinka · 11/06/2022 11:38

I quite like the M&S cargos too. I've seen them in the shops but forgotten.

Fearless9286 · 12/06/2022 14:36

I've just bought a pair of adidas pull on ankle length golf trousers. They are perfect for summer, dont look obviously 'sporty' and are so comfy and light. Will be wearing in the office and and for more casual weekend things

peridito · 12/06/2022 20:59

Fearless those Adidas do look good .Bit £££ for me ,but I need to ditch my buy cheap ,buy twice habit .

Nitgel · 12/06/2022 21:02

I just got a couple of black linen trousers from Cos, they're very lightweight and don't seem to crease that much

Fearless9286 · 12/06/2022 22:49

If you register with the adidas website, you get 20% off which makes them more reasonable. I bought them specifically for travelling for business events where I need to be comfortable but also look smart. I'm really impressed with them, will keep an eye on the black coming back into stock and probably buy those too
