What did your son wear to leavers prom?

PromPtly · 31/05/2022 21:47

My son has his soon and is doing the teenage shrug when I ask what his mates are wearing.

I'm thinking of just hiring as we don't have much call for formal wear 😅

His tie is baby blue.

Any ideas what would go nicely?

My ds wore black trousers black shirt black tie and gold suit jacket. Although he is slightly quirky. Most of his friends wore dark suits with white shirts and ties that matched their dates dresses.

He sounds brilliant!

DS wanted to go dressed as a Knight. I think his date talked him out of that one 😂

Navy suit that he never wore again Hmm.

SingingSands · 31/05/2022 21:56

A knight 😂 that's brilliant.

DD had her leavers prom on Friday. Most of the lads were in 3 piece suits, either navy or dark grey and a lot had baby blue ties!

Hop27 · 31/05/2022 21:58

How formal is it OP? Does he need to wear black tie? Guessing the tie is linked to his date?

My son has no Idea what to wear either and is no help. The all black and gold jacket sounds fab. Interested in others ideas.

Yes his girlfriend has a blue dress.

Argh should I get him shoes or trainers.

This is a minefield

Navy Suit, white shirt, black accessories (or brown / white kicks if more casual)
Dry clean, then sell after or keep it for Uni ball's I wore my prom dress to my first big uni ball. That Christmas.

Oblomov22 · 31/05/2022 22:01

Year 11 or Year 13?
Hop27 picture is Uber cool. Buy that.

Oblomov22 · 31/05/2022 22:02

Tbh just about anything goes. Smart. So he feels comfortable. Trousers, shirt. Suit. Tux.

17CherryTreeLane · 31/05/2022 22:03

Blue checked suit, with tan piping on pockets, bronze tie and pocket square, with brogues.

PromPtly · 31/05/2022 22:04

Year 11.

Hes off to college but don't think he will do uni.

Off track here but reading this, does everyone go with a date to their proms? DS doesn't have a girlfriend (and neither do the majority of his friends) so he is going with a group of (male) friends. I thought that was the norm?

In answer to the question, i have bought DS a mid grey 2 piece suit and a teal tie (both his choice). I am trying to persuade him to wear his Aie force 1's with it to save buying a pair of shoes but it is not working 😉

hellcatspanglelalala · 31/05/2022 22:04

Navy suit that he hasn't worn since. Have you looked on eBay? You'd probably get a once worn suit from last year's prom!

motogirl · 31/05/2022 22:05

Ask on your local Facebook page if anyone has a suit lying around you can buy, not worth buying. Btw none of them went with dates at my DD's' schools, one of mine had a boyfriend but she and her friends went as a group

SingleHandSue · 31/05/2022 22:08

This is what DS wore last year. His mates wore pretty much the same thing, navy slim fit suits with tan shoes.

I ended up buying the suit as it worked out only costing a bit more than hiring.

DS hired a dinner suit. A lot of them got regular suits and then wore them in 6th form as that was the uniform.

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 31/05/2022 22:11

A knight would be fantastic.

I would look at ebay, you never know when it might come in handy.

MissedItByThisMuch · 31/05/2022 22:17

Charcoal suit his brother had worn, loud “statement” shirt and red tie which was one of the colours in the shirt. Most boys wore dark suit/white shirt/pastel tie so he stood out in a small way. Which was exactly his aim.

Caveat: we are in Australia, call it a “leavers’ dinner” not “prom” and they don’t take “dates” at his school, but same principle.

Bbq1 · 31/05/2022 22:20

My ds is wearing a lovely slim fit "checked" suit, a mauve shirt and tie with a matching pocket square with brown shoes. He's very handsome and looks fantastic in his suit.

MissedItByThisMuch · 31/05/2022 22:21

Oh and shoes-wise he wore his school shoes which look like black dress shoes anyway.

Oblomov22 · 31/05/2022 22:44

@SingleHandSue

He looks completely dapper. Nice job!

Oblomov22 · 31/05/2022 22:54

Dh bought ds1 loads of cheap 2nd hand suits off eBay. For 6th form, He looked a treat.
For his A'level prom he requested a James Bond White Jacket Tux . Easy enough to find off eBay.
