What do you do to get your feet sandals ready?

I wanted to book a deluxe pedicure before my hols but all salons are very pricey where I live and I feel a bit bad wasting money for something that won’t last long (I wouldn’t get gel nails, just normal polish). I don’t have particularly problematic feet but I would like them to look pretty and polished for the sandal weather. What do you do to keep yours at their best?
The only thing I do right now is use a pumice stone in the shower once a week or so. In the summer I usually wear nail varnish (I am very good at doing my hands but less precise on my toe nails I find). Do you also have tips of what nail varnish to use? I want one that is very shiny and long lasting - I do also use a top coat. Majority of my nail polishes are essie.
Thank you for the tips :)

I use a microplane foot file when my feet are dry to get hard skin off (this was a game changer but you have to be gentle)
Then a body scrub in the bath or shower, worked in well, between toes etc. Dry feet, apply a urea based foot cream like flexitol and put socks on and go to bed!
Most of my nail polish is from rainbow connection and I use their get a grip base coat too

I use a Newton's chiropody sponge ( I think it's called a sponge) once a week. Follow with a foot scrub and O'Keefes foot cream.
I used to have gel nails every few weeks but I've reverted to doing it myself with OPI polish.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 28/05/2022 13:04

Apply some cuticle oil each evening (I do it while watching tv)
Apply O'Keefes healthy feet once a week
File nails dont cut.
I have Essie 'ice cream and shout' on my toes at the mo. With sally Hanson top coat which is shiny. I also like Revlon topcoat.
I'll get gels done before I go away as I find mozzie spray ruins polish. Smile

Also.... I dont have hard skin but DH sheds like a snake when using footner- it's revolting but works! So if hard skin is a prob def recommend Smile

Don’t overlook the importance of good cuticle care. I see many women with nicely painted toes with horrid cuticles in summer.

theDudesmummy · 28/05/2022 13:12

I go to a chiropodist once a year, prior to my summer holiday. Absolutely worth it.

BlueKaftan · 28/05/2022 13:15

Great point about taking care of cuticles! They can seriously inhibit the health and growth of the nail.

motogirl · 28/05/2022 13:22

Look for a nail bar rather than full salon - I pay £32 for a pedicure

Hoppinggreen · 28/05/2022 13:25

I get my sandals out of a box on top of the wardrobe and put them on
Nobody has thrown up or fainted yet

ladygindiva · 28/05/2022 13:26

Shave my toes

Marghe87 · 28/05/2022 13:28

Thanks all! @Tillsforthrills I use a cuticle oil pen on my hand nails - should I do the same on feet? Any suggestions on how to take care of cuticles? I am not very good with those type of sticks they use to push them in iyswim

OMG 😱 THE HORROR!!! (How closely are you looking at toes?! Is this a fetish PP??)

OP - I don’t think there is any point paying for gell for a pedicure if you do have one - normal polish lasts ages on your toes

Tiredalwaystired · 28/05/2022 13:39

Personally to prepare my feet for sandals I just take my socks off.

Socks with sandals 🤣

Me too.

But I don't have any hard skin issues (is this due to badly fitting shoes?) and I can't bring myself to care too much about what my (or anyone else's) toenails look like.

When I see this I point and scream A’ La Invasion of The Body Snatchers

darisdet · 28/05/2022 14:11

I don't think my eyesight is sharp enough to see what people have done with their toenail cuticles. I do my own cuticles, but it takes ages.

What urea cream, and percentage, are people using?

JorisBonson · 28/05/2022 14:13

A ped egg, gallons of cream and a pedicure - agree with PP, try a nail bar. I pay £20 and my feet always look and feel brilliant.

DorritLittle · 28/05/2022 14:13

I have hard skin on one foot so I use a Urea footcream, or Vicks. But I do this all year round. So I just put nail varnish on my toes. Or not, if I can't be bothered.

yesthatisdrizzle · 28/05/2022 14:16

What do I do? I take my socks off and voila!

darisdet · 28/05/2022 14:18

I don't think my summer routine changes much from my routine the rest of the year either, to be honest. I occasionally use a pumice, daily body lotion on feet (standard stuff) and paint nails.

WaterBottle123 · 28/05/2022 14:20

Take my socks off.

MinglingFlamingo · 28/05/2022 15:00

www.nailsinc.com/Mobile/en/Caffeine-Hit-Nourishing-Foot-scrub/m-m-2293.aspx unfortunately not in stock but I use this foot scrub from nails Inc

And paint my nails in a nude tone also probably from nails Inc

Shave my hobbit feet if needed

glamourousindierockandroll · 28/05/2022 15:08

I don't give it a lot of thought eeally but i go get hard and cracked skin sometimes. I do like a good foot soak now and again (i just use a sink bowl), followed by a foot file and loads of cream then I sleep in my socks. That usually does the trick.

I am trying to do more for my hands and feet to look polished this year.
