Please recommend me a bar of soap for very sensitive skin

Usually use Nivea creme bar soap but it's been discontinued. I can't use Nivea shower gel as it sets my skin off. Any recommendations?

I'd go for something that's less commercially made and with minimal ingredients.

I make my own but I really rate the Cornish Seaweed soap. Really lovely soothing bar.

ManUforthewin · 28/05/2022 08:11

My skin seems to get itchy with everything except the Dove bar.

Arbeity · 28/05/2022 08:16

Apparently, the dove bar isn't actually soap, it's solid body wash. I guess due to some key ingredient being missing? It could be that you are sensitive to soap?

I use the big Italian cold pressed soaps you get in tkmaxx. Particularly love the olive and coconut ones. Also like Friendly Soap

Saucery · 28/05/2022 08:18

Simple soap.
Imperial Leather was also ok for my skin but dries my face out, so I switched to Simple.

MerylSqueak · 28/05/2022 08:23

I use Dove. It's not soap it's a synthetic detergent.

I'm allergic to soap. I think it's actually an allergy to the lye. Unfortunately, it seems after many, many experiments, the more 'natural' the soap, the more of the ingredient I'm allergic to they have. Also true of glycerin soaps like Pears, which I tried.

You can get other more expensive syn-dets (as they're called) from more ethical and more expensive companies. I can't afford them but I think La Roche Posay do one. I just googled them when I was looking.

MissSkate · 28/05/2022 08:26

Thanks for the recommendations so far. Should have said in my op that Dove and Simple products are the worst for making my eczema flare up.

Holland and Barrett have organic soaps that might suit you.

Aisling28 · 28/05/2022 08:32

Nivea magicbar I find really good. About 4 different ones for skin types.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 28/05/2022 09:00

I buy shampoo bars from a small business called Conchus (terrible name, great soap). They also do great unscented soap for sensitive skin, and I have dermatitis on my hands so can vouch for them.

Like you, I can't use Dove anything. I swear by olive oil soap - you can get one type in Holland and Barrett (Oliva, I think). It doesn't smell of much and doesn't lather much but it does the job and doesn't irritate my skin.

I can’t use dove or simple either. I use Johnson’s Baby soap.

MerylSqueak · 28/05/2022 09:25

The soap that least made my eczema react if all the ones I've tried was a glycerin soap from Waitrose.

TheVolturi · 28/05/2022 09:29

Simple soap

DreamloverTealover · 28/05/2022 09:30

Does it have to be a soap or would a cleanser be an option? I've tried soaps on my face and always feels it driea my skin out. Nivea do a lovely cleanser and toner that I'm using just now and makes my skin so soft.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 28/05/2022 09:31

I think skin issues are always really unique from one person to the next. That being said, DC2 has eczema and gets on best with Body Shop soaps, even though they're more highly perfumed than lots of supposedly more skin kind brands.

UndertheEagle · 28/05/2022 13:00

I've found Savon de Marseille donkey's milk soap to be really gentle. Available from French Soaps online. It's suitable for babies apparently.

XingMing · 28/05/2022 15:45

I have had the most appalling eczema for the last six months, and I have bought everything to try. Most isn't good for me, but my best suggestions are the Bioderma Atoderm washing oil (about £20 for a litre), which also works as shampoo, and La Roche Posay's Lipikar range -- which includes a bar soap. Hope this is helpful.

yesthatisdrizzle · 28/05/2022 15:48

DH has sensitive skin and he gets on well with the Body Shop olive soap (other brands are available).

So maybe an olive soap might be worth a try.

Neverendingmindfuck · 28/05/2022 16:02

I buy Sanex bar soap and Sanex Zero body wash.

learieonthewildmoor · 28/05/2022 18:35

Sorbolene soap is great.
I order Native soap from America: it’s one of the few fragranced products that set off my allergy

Seconding this. I don't have eczema but use this on my face.

AuntTwacky · 28/05/2022 23:59

Dove is lovely

mrsfollowill · 29/05/2022 00:02

Have you tried Sanex or Pears? - I find old fashioned Pears bar soap really gentle.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/05/2022 00:18

DH gets eczema, he tried all sorts before we found some glycerine soaps at a farmers market which didn't set it off. We buy loads at a time online now. The rose geranium and lavender are made with essential oil, they're particularly nice.
